Seems almost academic to say how good this video was, yet again !! I did want to say, however, just how nice it was to hear you give the shout out to Kevin Ash - he really was the best of motorcycle journalists, the bench mark to which I have always set others. Additionally, and more importantly, he really was a fantastic person. I remember vividly seeing the news of his accident, and feeling numbed. To this day I still think of him often and feel myself lucky to have known him, and his lovely family. A real loss on all fronts. His memory lives on. In closing, and without wishing to sound like too much of a kiss ass, I put your good self, Mr Neeves, as today’s Kevin Ash as far as respecting your writing, opinion and impartiality on motorcycling goes. I can give no higher praise.
Kevin Ash is much missed. I loved his journalism. I have one of his books, ordered direct, hence signed, which I keep on my coffee table.
As a 765 RS owner who does regular trackdays on it I cannot say how nice this bike feels on the side of the tire! Braking, chassis dinamics and that engine is definety up there with the all time greats!
Triumph definitely hit the nail on the head with the 675 and later with the 765 engines!
Bought one of the first ones ever to be manufactured, (off the back of the Bike Magazine article October 2005),……absolutely awesome! One of the best bikes I ever owned.

i preordered a red 06 and got one the first in the 🇺🇸. people were skeptical about the triumph compared to the japanese 600s. bought it to be different and was happy with purchase. with the power coming in sooner than the other 600s, the engine made it great to ride on the street.
Bought an 06 Daytona in gunmetal grey, union jacks over the lights back in 07 because there was a waiting list for the street triple. Figured I could streetfighter it if I crashed it. Ended up doing 25k miles on it in 2 years and about 12 trackdays. One of my biggest regrets selling it and it still looks beautiful today (much prettier than the gen2). Simple construction and easy to work on too. Had a massive slapper at silverstone doing about 130mph on it once so the steering damper wasn't the best so it could be a bit sharp on bumpy roads!
I'm 50, just bought an 08 with low k's and I love it. Handles like a dream and great fun on the track. Can't say I like it on the road much as I'm tall but man, 20min track sessions are awesome fun.

I once had the pleasure of test riding a race prepped 675...it was a Smith's Racing bike. I will never forget how absolutely sweet it was. Very light and responsive, plenty of torque. It felt MUCH better than any other 600 I rode, but it was a race bike so I suppose its not appropriate to compare. I had the chance to buy it but didn't, and I regretted it later. But wow.... I will never forget it.
Love that, as a man in my late 50’s that used to love PB in particular - the craft of magazine making was great to hear. I used to love PB’s technical reviews with photos of sports bikes without the fairings. Fantastic
had a 07 daytona in tornado red from new, absolute little rocket, loved it, the tone it gave off with a full arrow setup, had a tendency of burning out rectifiers though

I had a 2006 Daytona 675 in scorched yellow. I still pine for that bike, should never have sold it! Agree a modern Daytona 765 slightly larger than the competition would be a weapon!

Damned shame that Triumph's all time sales record holder, the Daytona T595/955 continues to be ignored forgotten... when the Daytona T595 came out back in 1998 they sold over 1800 of them..IIRC still holds the record.. and has been a steady seller until 2006. I picked up a 2005 back in 2013 for $3,500 USD w/6,800 miles..mint.. on a whim as then...that MY Daytona 955 were selling for $4.500 ~ 5,000 so I intended to 'flip it" and make an easy $1,000 .. I took it out for a spin the day of delivery and never looked back still own it today !. Great road going sport bike..surprisingly great Triumph proprietary Showa suspension standard forks and all... far better than the shite that came on my Ducati, great axial Nissin brakes which AGAIN, matched the radial Brembo on my Ducati ..super fast, and that induction howl ..just makes you smile ..yet it's forgotten.. Insanely inexpensive, huge new parts availabilty due to Triumph modular build manufacturing .. CHEAP to insure... just a shame darn shame..

I bought a 2011 facelift model in 2017.
It was track prepped. No mirrors,lights,etc.
I came from a track modified VFR800 and when I did my first track day on the triple I just couldn't believe how agile and light it was. 60kg lighter than the VFR.
I actually thought the same what Michael said. It was like suddenly getting on 250GP bike. So much fun and easy to handle this little bike.
I will never sell it. It's a candidate for livingroom display one day 😁
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Here in Australia we had Ken Wooton as editor of AMCN during the nineties and early noughties who as editor produced a fantastic mag. I miss those days, so many thanks for bringing back fond memories. You have another subscriber 👍🇦🇺
Love the video. A Daytona 675 rider myself, it is a really smooth machine. In my younger days I kept trying to trade it in for something like Ducati or other bikes, but could never pull the plug. It ticks so many boxes for me, a at 5'8 it fits me well, riding position is bad for bumpy slow city roads but really well measured for longer days in the saddle.

I’ve just purchased a 675, and couldn’t believe how light it is. It still looks fresh even though it’s an 07 plate, and handles brilliantly.

I own a 2008 in Neon Blue - absolutely brilliant bike. I also own an EBR 1190 and just purchased a new CBR1000RR....I know the Daytona will still get a ton of saddle time.

Ironic isn’t it how the Daytona was Triumph’s bid for the crown in the 600cc segment, but inadvertently it ended up being instrumental in the downfall of said segment when it formed the basis of the Street Triple?
The bit about mcn girls made me laugh. In 2005 my missus was Mcn L plate babe of the year, got her test paid for and some kit. She went to croft bsb vip, went in the safety car and had loads of pics taken by a photographer but because she had bike kit on and didn't have her arse hanging out they never made it into the next paper and the competition was never ran again 😂. Times changed aye... but she is still raining champion I suppose lol. Cheers for the video
Really enjoyed this presentation. I too would love a new daytona with a slightly bigger engine. I’m still riding a 2015 daytona to this day, and this ‘blast from the past’ has made me appreciate the bike even more.. a very well balanced bike in every sense.
Very nice vid, just in time while sipping from my coffee after dinner! ever since I saw some vid's about the 675 I fell in love with it, and especially the sound this bike makes. can imagine it having more grunt than the r6. haven't got de dime's for it , but else.. I still stick to my R1. sports bike's it is , for me.
The bike you used in Valencia was one of Christian Elkins bikes.
We sent two over with Kev smith and flew out with Trevor Franklin.
The Daytona was actually the fastest we sat down in the hotel discussing it that night.
It was even faster than the 1000s around there.
Only for a certain gp rider vandergobergh going back out on the R6 the day after for lap after lap until he went faster..
Still a great test and proved that it was on the pace
I no longer work for Triumph and believe it was the foreign magazine that wanted the Yamaha to lap faster not mcn.

Thank you for the awesome review and blast from the past. I own a track prepped 2008 675. A friend and I built it together on a budget and it’s an absolute thrill. Hasn’t seen any action for quite some time but these bikes will always have a place in my heart.
I have a 07 daytona ive had since 2013 its never for sale as i have too much money & time in her 115whp nitron & ohlins suspension rcs19 Galfers translogic QS & loads of carbon & other trick bits,she has been a money pit but the bark from low down to the howl up top that triple is one of the best sounds its epic! i have always said it feels like a 250 with a 750 motor
Thanks Neevesy, thoroughly enjoyable ! Triumph proved how good they were with the 675 Daytona, a serious manufacturer. Didn't MCN have a Daytona 955i drop a valve whilst speed testing and report it - which didn't go down well at Triumph ?
Neevesy these videos are getting better and better and you seem more comfortable away from the MCN format of things. Probably about 2010 me and my wife pulled into a petrol garage and next to us was a red Daytona with an older guy just dismounted. My wife commented what a lovely bike and I asked him how long he’d had it. Told me it was his wife’s and he’d taken it out for a ride/ fill up. I was 49 at he time and on the back of that encounter decided to pass my test before I was 50 which I did and never looked back. Never had a Daytona but have had three 675 striples and one 765 RS so far. Great work 👍🏻

I used a 2015 Daytona 675R as my first track bike for about 18 months, before upgrading to a 2020 S1000RR M-Sport about a year ago. I love them both in different ways. The Daytona is still sitting in the garage. I don’t ride it much anymore but can’t bring myself to part with it.
Neevesy, back in 2011 you did an MCN video for a used blue Daytona 675. The video is still on youtube somewhere. I bought that bike from Webbs a couple of weeks later. Nearly 12 years on, I still have it and will never sell it. Thanks for another great video.

Really enjoying these blast from the past videos. The anecdotes about how bad the Triumph / MCN relationship was were fascinating. I love the Daytona. I’m too old to cope with the riding position these days, sadly.

One thing that fascinates me is people who have done or own bikes with big miles on , like 6 figures.. normally people who ride bikes to 100k plus say .. “only ever oil and filters mate” never had the valves checked … and quite often there Honda riders 😂 I remember reading a story once if a bloke I think he had a R1 and had covered well over 6 figures on it with various tours and such probably track days probably camping the lot , for me there my bike hero’s proper hard core man … 😂 look forward to the next episode , once again thanks for taking time to produce these videos we all really love watching them! Shame there’s not like a bike version of top gear on the telly box eh , if I had Elon’s money I’d pay for one and you’d make a great presenter , halo polished?? 😂😂
I miss the MCN newspaper. My last visit to my homeland I was sad to see it was no longer in print. Same with Bike magazine and Ogri!
MCN and Bike magazine are still going strong in print...and there are digital versions you can buy online, too.

I do recall PB reporting that they had an engine failure during testing that took the shine off the initial hype around the bike. But it did look like something special back in the day. I might buy a used one at some point so I can get that sports bike fix 😁

I first saw the Daytona 675 in November 2006 at the Birmingham bike show, I ordered one in red on the spot via eddy’s triumph in leeds.
I added the triumph sports silencer & the Union Jack front fairing.
It was one of the best bikes I’ve had & ive had quite a few🤣, I kept the bike for six years as nothing else tempted me until 2012 when I bought the mv agusta f3 675, & well, that’s another story 👊✊️✊️
I intend to run my 675r for as long as possible on track. I see a few shiny looking bikes at trackdays but the 675 is hard to beat. Unless triumph pull something out the bag and do a proper 765 Daytona vs a jewellery piece, it would probably have to be replaced with a v2. Come on Triumph with moto2 and the parts bin from a street 765 there must be enough of a market to have a go at!
They need to make a daytona 1200! Faired speed triple basically, would be amazing!!! The potential is there to dominate the market again.
I had the experience on track of out grunting an r6. I was at Bedford autodrome following a guy on an r6 until we got to the hairpin. I followed him round and pinned it down the straight. As you said, just cruised passed. I only wish I could say it was skill but, just an exceptional bike.
Always great listening to ya, not sure if your looking for content suggestions but I for one would love to hear you compare top bikes in different categories at different price points especially on the used market. I think there is a huge opening for review and comparison for the used market about 4 years old. Could even turn it into a pod cast

I got back into motorcycling two years ago after ten years away from it. I tested a 2000 GSX-R 600 that my friend owned at the time and absolutely loved it. Ended up buying a new Aprilia RS660 based on its great reviews and and modern electronics which felt safe. I do think the RS is an excellent all around bike, I’ve even started doing trackdays for the first time in my life. I have zero complaints with it, but still, I think in a not to distant future a want a real screaming 600 (or 750) from the mid 2000s. It’s just something else. I think I’ll add a Huskvarna Svartpilen for commute and possibly something for touring in the future. If I can find a nice 600 or 750 before the R9 comes out I don’t think I will be able to resist it. A little worried about doing track days on a mid 2000s bike now that i’m learning on a bike with all the rider aids.

still a great test and proved the triumph was more than capable even going faster than the 1000s around there so we were made up with the result but sadly never got the glory I no longer work for Triumph but remember it well.
Oh dear I’m getting old… I enjoy watching the bikes from the time I started riding and completely don’t care about the current crop.

Great vid & story. Very entertaining & interesting to hear you tell it. As for Triumph, surely there's a place in the market for a 765 RR with clip-ons ABOVE the yoke, unlike the 1200 RR.
Absolutely love my Street Triple 675R. Love the looks of the Daytona but for comfort reasons I opted for the Striple. Fantastic machines.
Raced one in 08 and 09. Amazing machine and tempted to get one now for roads and track days.
I remember Paul Young rocking up to one of our club meetings…..needless to say I reset my opinion on how quick I was (or wasn’t) 😮
Thanks a lot for this. I just got myself a 08 for turning into a track bike and I'm loving the process, even tho I still think maybe the r6 would have been a bit better. And on this note, my question... so it seems to me that the r6 is the bike that survived the style switch better and with that I mean this v shaped type of cornering with huge backing in. I see the r6 goes sideways all the time while I have never seen daytonas being backed in the same way. Do you have any experience with this? Will daytona comply well with the modern ways?

I still own a 2004 Triumph Daytona 600 and love it. Owned it since 2006. Not the fasted 600 out there but great for a bigger rider and sweet handling.
Love my 2012 675R last of the underseat exhaust style. Still turns heads now

I've ridden, the TT600, then Daytona 650, super early 675 and my personal favourite the 675R. My mate is a bit of a triumph guy. Agree with your thoughts about a normal sized 765 Daytona, with the lack of a gsxr750 and the R9 yet to make an appearance, it's got a gap in the market to go at. Enjoy the video's thanks for making them.
i own 4 bikes a Grom, CBR, Tiger and Daytona. The Daytona is the most fun to ride, the Tiger is the most comfortable, the CBR is the easiest, and the Grom is a lark. The Daytona is magic.

I agree: a lot of bikes are too small for us Europeans.
Especially sports bikes, but also some naked bikes like the new Hornet or the MT-07 - to name a few.

Nice review, I just sold my street triple 675r 2014 had for 7 years , bought a Daytona 675R 2015 for track/road got the same 675cc engine but the Daytona is a shorter stroke so not as much low/mid power to gain more top end so better power band for track not as good on the road as the street triple .
So not really , A do anything bike I thought it could be hence I ended up with 2 bikes ,
The Daytona R is taller than the standard Daytona suspension . I’m 5 8” short leg but it’s so light not a problem.
Thank you for you insight and thorough bike reviews. I currently ride a 2015 Super Duke 1290r and am thinking about upgrading to a new SD evo or Tuono V4. I do not do track days but my normal riding consists of 2 hour aggressive rides on technical backroads. I am 6’3” and 225 pounds. Any advice on which bike you would recommend given all above would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I had a CBR 600 and had sex several times during its ownership. Full transparency: it was with my wife… and she wasn’t always fully awake during the process.
Neevesy if you were to have a choice between the Gixxer 750 or Daytona 675R for track exclusive bike which would you prefer with both have a proper set of suspension tires gears etc?
Only started watching CZcams videos about bikes for around 5 months. Nowadays when I see a bike I’m curious about it’s “I wonder what does Neevesy has to say about it”.

Ive had 3 'tonas. An 06 Gen 1, a 2010 Gen 2 and a 765 Moto2 jobbie. I actually think the 2010 was the best - more revvy than the 765, more fun too as not trying to be too serious. My 2010 was a track bike, just bloody brilliant.
100% agree, I've owned the 06 D600, & own the 09 D675, 13+ D675 and 17+ 765 RS. The 09 is definitely my favorite of them all, it's super sharp and has an edge to it I have t found in the others
They are all excellent bikes but the 09 has a special place with me,
765 RS is definitely just fun to ride, the 13+ is so sweet aswell all of them have been track bikes except for the 09.
I would put down deposit blindly for a modernized Daytona 765 if Triumph announced one.
A modern Daytona 765 - motor and cycle parts largely off the Street RS - and if they hit the mark they'd likely not need to update much to 2030 if/when new ICE really starts being banned. Obvs unlikely a massive seller, but would do decent wortldwide business and kudos for a while.
I had a 2002 tt600. I liked it, handled well, but didnt quite have the power of my 2003 or 2005 gsxr 600's

Has the build quality of bikes improved over the last 20 or 30 years?
If so, is that contributing to motorcycle inflation?
For example, how many sport or superbikes could you buy for the price of an average car in the 90’s and 00’s?
It just doesn’t make sense to me why bikes are less popular among younger folk these days. In the past they were the cheapest form of self-transport to/from work, etc. But perhaps public transport is good enough now for price-conscious commuters to not bother with bikes…

So I had one I bought new in. 2011. And I have never owned anything that had so many problems. I should mention that im in the states and maybe our service people wernt as knowledgeable as they should be on the Daytonas. This thing leaked coolant and oil on about a dozen occasions, the tail light assembly had a short in it and finally they replaced the engine because they couldnt figure out why it would stall out when I'd pull the clutch in after 30ish minutes of riding. With that said, when it ran right.... nothing else like it on the road.
I don't quite understand the lack of love for the Daytona 765. You mention it not competing well with Duc's and Beemers - but those are superbikes, not supersport, way more power and weight. Is it "just" the cost of the 765 that leads to comparisons with Panigale's and S1000RR's? Compared to the 675 , seems like the 765 is just a bit lighter, a bit more powerful with some fancier components - which of course you gotta pay for. But, from just a ride quality & performance perspective, what's not to like about that?
So this begs the question is it a 675r or a GSXR 750 the ultimate real road sports bike??
