This song was written in 1985 by Julie Gold and covered a few times since then. The most recognized version is by Bette Midler. She released this song at the beginning of the Gulf War aka Dessert Storm in 1990. This song hit home to our nation who was at war. This song has become an anthem for world peace.

As a huge Bette Midler fan this is still one of my favourites from her, a song of hope of love and of peace. She had a profound effect on me when talked into going too see her live here a long ways back in Sydney for her Divine Miss M tour I always assumed she was more of a comedian than a singer and then she began to sing OMG, from that night on I was a fan, my all time favourite songs from her are her version of the Beatles song "In My Life" and "The Rose" she remains the DIVINE Miss M today, her charity work is still ongoing so she is true STAR earned the hard way by actually being the person she is off screen/stage and on.

This song was wrote by julie gold, and i think the first artist to sing this was nanci griffith, who sadly passed away this year, and she did a great job performing it.

This is a song where the lyrics are more important than the music. Always moves me, and gives me hope. Not Bob Hope, as that would be weird. And expensive.
