Whenever I see or think of Bette Midler I always think of her acting in The First Wives Club. Such a great singer and actor.
This song has been done by many artists, Bette`s my favorite, she recorded it as part of the soundtrack for the movie Beaches. Great movie that the song really fits well as it is a movie of a life long friendship.

In the movie Beaches she sings about her best friend who is dying, it a moving and emotional song as only Bette can sing it.
This song brought me back in time...remembering father and daughter dance back in 1990 to this song....thank you for your reaction

Beautiful song and lyrics. The first time I heard this song was a version by Sheena Easton on her 1982 album "Madness, Money and Music." So I have a soft spot in my heart for Sheena's earlier cover and like it a bit better than Bette's big-hit cover from 1988-89 from the "Beaches" movie soundtrack. czcams.com/video/vnRtAL9mpns/video.html

Try the original by Roger Whittaker. It sounds far more honest. Even the Gary Morris version is better. I cannot stand Bette Midlers warbling.
I have heard both of their versions-neither of those are on this level, Bette's is much better.
