This is from the film Beaches....which starred Bette Midler....my mum died in June 1999 from cancer.......i spent Christmas 1999 with my Dad and i saw the film for the first time....my Dad had gone to bed early Xmas eve and i stayed up to watch this film....when the song was played in the film i was sitting there bawling my eyes out thinking of my Mum....my Dad came downstairs wondering while i was still up ..i didn't want him to see i was crying...i didn't want to upset him...so i pretended to be looking out the window...i couldn't face him...6 months later my Dad passed away....we had this play at his funeral....he was an absolute hero for taking care of my Mum....despite in the last years of his life being in a wheelchair through spinal injury....he was sooo strong....he was my hero xxx thank you for your lovely review of this song....you should watch the film too...i always cry when it is on !!

This is my favorite song long time. I remembered my friend. She passed a way when she was young due to cancer... She always support me and help me. She made everyone happy around her... It is so much memories. We were working long time at US together. She wanted to go back to Japan one more time before she passed a way... She couldn't. I know she can now. Because, she had wings. She can go any where and no pain. Love you, Takako and I miss you so much.

This is from the movie "Beaches ". sits about two friends that grew up together. One grew up to be a star. The other one just supported her in her career. Later on one gets very ill and later on she dies. Thats her shes singing about.
Every time i hear this song. i think of my mom who i lost July 2019 to cancer. I know shes in Heaven but i miss and love her so much and i look forward to that day i can see her again. I cry every time i hear this song.

I agree. Never let any diagnosis defeat your spirit or make you feel like you have no hope. My mother was diagnosed with late stage dementia then stomach cancer the next week and then Corona Virus months later. Though she still deals with the dementia she is Cancer and Corona Virus free! Never give up, anything is possible!
Two of my biggest heroes have been my brother and sister. Iam the baby of three. Our sister passed away of terminal illness twenty six years ago. She taught me strength and independence. Fighting against the odds. My brother taught me more than any school ever did. I had bad seizures as a small child and missed a lot in school. My brother taught me not only what the schools needed but way beyond. He also taught me laughter, and they both took care of me until I was strong enough to emotionally face the world ahead of me. They will always be my biggest heroes.

One lesson we should take from this song is this: if there is someone in our lives who give so much to us and ask so little from us, if there is a person in our life that is always lifting us up and helping us get through life and keeps us going, we need to stop and tell them how much they mean to us that they are not taken for granted and that they make our lives so much better. That's the lesson of this song. Tell someone they are your hero., Tell someone they have made your life so much better for being in it and that you love them.
On CZcams, there are versions of Midler singing this song at Yankee stadium at the 9/11 Memorial ceremony with thousands in the stadium and many networks broadcastings the ceremony. Just a few days after attack. as emotional as it gets.
