I met her very briefly once. It was in 1977 when I was on a trip with my school. I was then 15 years old and could only understand a few words of English (I'm French). We were on the steps going up to St. Paul's Cathedral when someone came out making big gestures and closing the door to the public. There were about twenty of us on the steps when two huge cars stopped in front of the cathedral. An old lady got out of one car and 2 other people got out of the other car. The old lady was in front and went towards the front door. As I was almost in her way, she came to shake my hand with an incredible smile and say 2 or 3 words to me. Then she entered the cathedral. I knew from my teacher that she was the Queen Mother and that's when my legs started shaking :D She was just adorable.

She was a true monarch. Shaped by the high principles and ethics and selflessness they were taught as children. They were so noble. Today we give up on people so easily. Marriages have no commitment. That is why we are all falling apart. Mental health is such a problem. Sad world indeed.

The moors came from North Africa and were mainly "mulattos", or even black whereby the natives of the Iberian Peninsula were Europeans and light skinned, so that the visible veins beneath the skin appeared blue! It's just a thought but maybe it's because the Queen mum was a queen consort, rather than the actual monarch? There's less weight on a consort's shoulders. I also think that when Elizabeth II unexpectedly became queen at a very young age, it was in an era that was still very much a man's world, and, if memory serves, Churchill referred to her as a 'slip of a girl'. Maybe she felt that, to take on the role and prove herself, she had to maintain a serious outlook. I’ve always thought that the marriage of the Queen mother and the King was a testament to how love can support and lift us to become more than we ever thought we could be. They seemed to bring out the best of each other, but then the Queen mother did that for so many throughout her life. I truly believe that she was the reason for whatever happiness the King was able to find in his life. She was such a wonderfully caring woman, with a very big heart.
I have no doubt she did the same for her daughter the Queen when she was forced into her crown so unexpectedly, despite being completely grief-stricken - it’s very well known how much Queen Elizabeth depended on her mother those first years, and I was deeply saddened when the Queen mother passed away. She was always my favourite of all the Royals - she wasn’t at ALL politically correct in private, lol, but then it’s impossible to compare her using today’s standards. She was incredibly politically astute, and I’m sure the royal PR team must have absolutely adored her.
I’ve often found it a bit odd that more wasn’t made out of the fact that that horrible woman, Simpson, and Edward were actually nazi sympathizers. (She was truly an absolutely beastly woman 😠).

I must admit, as an Aussie brought up as a "Monarchist" I absolutely loved "Her Majesty The Queen Mother". She appeared to be very "down to earth" and approachable to ordinary people. This was probably why I loved the BRF from birth, and I continue, in 2024 to follow The Royal family now. Thanks for the wonderful memories Your Majesty and to HMTQ.

After the King died, the Queen Mother didn't want to give up her power. She distrusted and sabatoged the late Prince Phillip at every opportunity! Even to the point of hurting the relationship between Phillip and Charles. Princess Diana did not care for her at all and she allowed Camilla and Charles to use her residence as a "love nest." Still, she was a good Queen and was a tremendous asset, especially during WW2. Like all of us, there are good/bad things about them. Truly one of the last "great ladies."

What’s amazing is how passionate, how invested in the topic you all are. I’d love to see an age survey. However, from the content and knowledge(or lack of) shown, I’d guess most commenters are young, definitely under 30, many under 20, and I’d also guess a lot are American, and that very few are British.
So you can’t say the British Royal Family aren’t relevant. To inspire such passionate discussion in people who will never meet them, who have watched a 100 minutes about a lady whom many have trouble placing in history, whether or not the comments are favourable, means they are still relevant in some way.
I suppose it explains the massive tourist value which Royal supporters say the Royal family have for England.

The grand old Edwardian lady. Her Royal Highness the Queen Mother. This is a marvelous documentary of a wonderful lady who was ahead of her time considering the time when she became Queen Consort. She will be the best known Lady, every ones Grandmother or Great Grandmother or even Mother, i am sure at some point early on in her life. This was a lady who knew the meaning of love and devotion to her husband. she was his rock and he was hers. This is the type of Royal how i think it was meant to be. Even after his death she never strayed from her love for him. Wallace Simpson was a thorn in her side and she made it known. If you were shunned by the Queen Mother you knew it. it is an ancient thing i think to turn your back on scandal or harm or the offending person. I wish she had done it to Camila back when Charles was doing the wild thing with her rather than having Charles do his duty and stand by the woman he married, i think things may have been different between his now deceased ex-wife Diana and his Grand Mother would have turned out very different. Two wonderful beautiful women. She never remarried or even courted anyone after her Bertie passed away she stayed loyal to him even after his death. A true love story. the love of the couple, for each other for family and the institution, She always reminded me of my Father's Mother ,My Grand Mother, has a similar look, in the way they dresses minus the crown jewels of course, the way they handled themselves too very sweet, I have and had great affection for them both. I am sure she took great pride in her Daughter Elizabeth II and the woman she became. Both ladies were meant to be Queen. The Queen Elizabeth II found her own true love also fiercely loyal to each other. Now the fab five are back together again. God save the King. Just as a side note despite Camila, being the cause of a marriage break up, she has stepped into the shoes nicely, as the Kings wife and has proven herself worthy of the title, she has just received and doing a grand job. Keep up the good work Camila, for as much as i loved Diana, i think you were meant to be together, in the first place, but those boys, William and Harry are the kings sons, please take good care of them.

Back them when she married Bertie she wasn’t expecting to become Queen because it was her brother-in-law David who was the heir to the throne she was destined to be the Duchess of York. It was when Davis abdicated that her life changed dramatically she was no longer the duchess of York as the new kings wife and was the Queen of England.
Elizabeth hated David because Bertie had no training to become king because he was simply not destined to be King but once David abdicated it put immense pressure on Bertie to step up as the King witch affected his health later in life. Even there mother Queen Mary blamed David.
It’s ironic that in present day Harry is in a similar position to what his great great uncle David was in
