    I've watched your videos for a some time now I own the vanderhagen kit and art of shaving travel kit. Plus various other brushes but I've yet to buy anything from Vikings blade. And I know you have always spoken very well of their products. So I just ordered the dark stallion, thanks Mark for the reviews! Brush will be here Sunday :)

      Thanks, Tobin Fetters.:) Dark Stallion and Fire mare are tow of my favorite brushes!:) Amazing feel even though they are synthetic. Synthetic brushes just keep getting better and better.:) You may also want to check out the brushes form Phoenixshaving.com. very nice. but the Dark Stallion has the advantage of being great as a daily driver at home as well as as a terrific travel brush.:)

      I OWN THOSE 2 VIKING BRUSHES, THEY ARE GREAT BRUSHES.

    Mark, how do you properly clean / maintenance Silver-tip and Synthetic brushes ? And how often do you maintenance them

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 5 lety

      I simply make sure to thoroughly rinse and dry my brushes after each use. Synthetic brushes are pretty much low maintenance. Natural hair brushes may get a build-up of soap over time, but, again if you do the due diligence after each shave, you should be okay.
      Should you require some cleaning due to soap build-up, vinegar is your friend.:) B&B has a very good wiki on this:

    Interesting review of these brushes. Despite not seeing any reviews on them you seem to know about most products, if you have the choice between the Kent BLK4 silvertip or the Chubby 1 super badger. Which would you choose.
    thanks

      @MarkSzorady  Před 6 lety

      I haven't tried either one. I've seen some reviews on both. Both look to be exceptional brushes. I lean toward the Kent because it's a Silvertip. However, the Chubby has a great handle! the Kent is a bit smaller, but this could be a good thing. Tough call!:):) Regardless, both are top shelf brushes. You can't go wrong with either one. I think it comes down to size and handle. Smaller, more compact but with silvertip hair? Or, larger handle with three banded super badger hair?

    • @mentaltmc
      @mentaltmc Před 6 lety

      From what I read on Simpsons site it says the Chubby 1 Super is Silvertip. I think I might go with them. Tough call. I'll let you know either way how it is.

    Is it true that using pre shave oil with badger brush can harm the brush ? The Kent brush site says not to use oil. Will it harm the brush or just affect its performance

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 6 lety

      There's an ongoing debate/discussion on this very subject. You'll find just as many NOs as you will YESes. Some say that if you do a through cleaning, then no harm, no foul. Others disagree. Some say some oils (like mineral oil) in a pre-shave oil will damage the hairs. Others say that oils are actually doing the hair some good by providing added moisturizers.
      In your situation, I would heed the manufacturer's recommendation. They know their product best. Why second guess them? If something is amiss with the performance of the brush, you can at lest tell them that a pre-shave oil was never used.
      Additionally, they might be able to recommend a pre-shave product that consists of ingredients that do not harm the hairs of their brushes.
      If you want to use a pre-shave oil for your shave, then get a Semogue Boar brush, break it in and use it on those days. Once broken in, it's a terrific naturl hair brush and performs will with creams and soaps (although I still prefer a synthetic brush with hard soaps).
      I use the Semogue 1800 Superior Boar Bristle Shaving Brush: amzn.to/2AcH6l5
      A terrific brush and it's only 15 bucks! BTW, I use a bit of mineral oil every now and again on the handle to keep it in good shape so the wood doesn't dry out.
      But, there is a beak in period on a boar brush. A way to speed things along is to soak the bristles in cold water in the fridge for three days, then riinse and brush out on a towel. Initially that gets things softened. But repeated use really softens the hairs as they continue to split.

      I like the 1520. Would it be the same performance as the 1800

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 6 lety

      I don't own the 1520. But, I doubt you'd find any Semogue brush that under performs. There might be slight differences in brush loft, but the big difference is simply the handle, IMHO.
      However, at 14 or 15 bucks, you can afford to get both and compare.:) I just may do this now. I have a credit burning in my wallet.:)

    I’ve never seen anything at TAOS other than overpriced crap. And the stuff that they don’t make (e.g., Merkur, Mühle), just overpriced.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 4 lety +1

      Some TAOS stores are closing and it appears they are making inroads with their products at large chain stores like Sam's Club. Prices for TAOS prodcuts at those locations have come down. Just my own personal observation.:)

      Mark Szorady I know it’s owned by P&G, the owner of Gillette I believe. I wonder if the mainstream shaving community just still isn’t ready for wet shaving to make a comeback. It’s a shame as it’s a far superior method of shaving in my opinion.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 4 lety

      @@ricker76er when I look at the number of soaps, razors, blades, etc. in today's marketplace, I can only help think that it's growing in popularity. The fact that Gillette sold a new safety razor last year (in limited quantities) tells me they are aware of the growth. Just a hunch on my part.:) BTW, I just checked at the Gillette heritage razor will be back on stock on March 14, 2020: amzn.to/2Tu0FwJ (affiliate link).

    None of them are good, with the 60$ you have spent for that art of shoving pure badger brush ,you could've just purchased a Parker handmade 100% silverstip badger brush which is waaaaay more superior than anything you have there. Cheers.
