    Ah, Tabac original... The genuine "dad scent" that every german born between, say, 1960 and 1990 associates with his/her father or grandfather. Many find it to be stuffy or old-manish for that reason but I've always loved it because of the memories it brings everytime I use the cologne. Greetings from, well, Cologne. ;)

      It's true, "Tabac Original" (and "Old Spice") was used by both my father and grandfather. Both have been dead for decades - but when I open the bottle or whip up the shaving cream - they're right beside me again. It is a timeless fragrance and the older I get myself, I like it more and more.

    I like how the list isn’t overwhelmed with artisanal soaps. I like to dabble in that fancy stuff but find myself liking the stuff that seems to come from time tested foreign brands where wet shaving never really fell out of fashion

    Tabac is my favourite as well.. superb performance & the scent reminds me of being a kid in the barbershop with my father on a Saturday morning.. The aftershave & balm are wonderful.. By the way, the soap container isn’t ceramic but glass.. It’s called milk glass, & it’s made by adding bone ash to the heavy glass mix.. It’s a Renaissance invention.. Pretty cool I think...

    I agree with you on Tabac, it performs flawlessly for me, i put it in the same category as Dr. Selby, which is a classic from my country and its quality i find on par with Tabac, just different scents.
    If you like Tabac’s scent, you won’t be disappointed with the aftershave or cologne, they are perfect matches to the soap, to my nose at least. Just a very clean smell with hints of smoke/leather but very subtle.
    Now on slickness, i do agree with you again, Capts choice BR is the slickest of all i have tried by far.

    Tabac over Proraso feels more dense, however if you have a cold 🤧 or it’s summer time Proraso green is the way to go. You are 100% right after retrying synthetic brushes they are the best to whip up a good lather with the harder pucks and of course the creams that lather just touching them . Thank buddy 👍👍👍

    I find Tabac to be excellent, a high quality shaving soap at a good price and I really like the traditional scent. The bowl has that odd lid which doesn't screw down and stays loose but has a charm to it. I've also used Proraso red which I also found to be good, the scent is also one you enjoy returning to.

    Gotta love Tabac! The milk glass jar is beautiful and looks great sitting on my counter. And for people on the go, the shave stick holder is the best design in the world. It eliminates all the mess. It’s my understanding the design has won awards. I know some people complain how strong the scent is... but I like it. . It’s old school. I am a man in my sixties. I use a 70 year old Gillette Aristocrat. Old school works for me.

The love of shape soap is definitely an addiction and some of the artisan ones cost so much, it’s become an expensive hobby, but these soaps are the best. tabac is awesome. i use their deodorant, had many soaps, aftershaves, hand soap.... this is just amazing product. i am so lucky to have learned how to shave with DE razors using tabac. with a big boar brush you need few taps on the soap and you can already make lather. the best thing about it to me it's how good the protection is. makes a thick protective layer and lasts for very very long just because you dont need much to get enough lather for 2 or 3 passes. i do just 2 and i have enough

    Great video Mark.
    Sometimes it is not the price of the product which is prohibitive, but the price of shipping. If you are in the US, Canada, the UK or mainland Europe it is not such a big deal, but shipping to Thailand tends to be exorbitantly expensive. By our standards at least.
    Here is a great example: I can FLY from Chiang Mai, where I live, to Bangkok, which is about 500 miles away, for less than the shipping on a soap on Amazon or with most other online retailers.
    Cheat? I wait for people I know, or people friends know to visit the outside world, and BEG and bribe them with homebrew, to bring soaps for me.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 4 lety +1

      Lee, I'm looking on Google maps to see where you live and I'm surprised that shipping would be so expensive. You would think with China, Japan, etc. being in the area (so to speak), shipping would be lower. As you know (but I mention for the viewers), it's a two and half hour flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong and three hours from where you live to Hong Kong.

    It doesn't seem like a lot of CZcamsrs are reviewing/promoting the budget soaps/creams, which is sad. It's almost like we should feel embarrassed/ashamed, if we use the budget items. I don't like most of the budget ones you mentioned. Except for Cella. I like Razorock and Haslinger for the budget end of the market. You did a good job! This isn't really designed as a best value for the money video, but it seems to work that way.
    I don't think the hobby is as popular, now, as before. I don't get a lot of new videos in my feed. Maybe, it is just me. And the budget stuff seems to be more of a sign of shame, now, than just a few years ago. I wonder if they hate the user or they hate the products, themselves.

      @MarkSzorady  Před 3 lety +2

      kip, Thanks so much. I'm very happy to hear you enjoy the videos.:) No, I'm not rotating soaps as I'd like only because I'm getting new soaps to review, etc. However, I have rotated them in the past. Lately, I find myself going through the soaps saying, "Hey! I haven't used this one in a while." Or a viewer may mention a soap I have and that reminds me to use it.:) It's a combination of little factors and reminders, I guess. Also, at times, the weather plays a role. If it's cold or hot, etc. I'll grab a soap that works for that particular kind of day (something tropical for a hot day or warm and spicy for a cold day, wet). However, I may be doing this automatically without giving it much thought.:)

    Hello, I am a beginner to shaving and I learn a lot from your videos. I am at the stage of gathering the necessary things and my question will be about these porcelain crucibles in which you present your favorite soaps. I mean Mitchell's and Tabac. Could you please write me what these dishes look like inside after taking out their soap inserts? Do they have any elements to facilitate the production of foam or are they completely smooth inside?
    Best regards Wojtek (this is a Polish first name and reads Voytek).

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  Před 2 lety

      Kulala/Wojtek, they are both smooth inside. when using you'd be loading the brush for a face lather...at least this is how I do it. The bowl itself doesn't engage the brush. Just the puck. Between the two, Tabac (original formula) is the easier of the two to lather.

    In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year.
