    I use half of a small coconut shell for my shave bowl. Works great

      whys that? not much deference in using a coconut shell then a wood lathed bowl.

    Great video. You clear up a lot of the confusion.
    I make my own pottery, so I have been trying to make my ceramic bowls. I put them in warm-hot water in the sink, along with the brush, while I shower. I find the bowl comfortable to hold, while I get a nice warm lather to shave with. Sometimes I will leave the bowl in the sink water while I shave to keep it warm. This would work with any metal bowl or ceramics you have

    I am going to agree with you. I like using a scuttle after the first snow, then I use an artisan bowl after the first 60 degree day.
    Bowl in the summer, scuttle in the winter.
    I am currently working with a VERY experienced and talented woodworker.
    He is going to turn shave brush handles and bowls and he has asked my advice. I’m going to give him a few sketches and send him a link to this video.
    You explained this VERY well.
    Thank you Jason! You Rock!

    I like my timeless blue rubber bowl. It doesn’t break when I drop it.

    Great video. If you're using a wooden bowl, you can definitely get it clean. Just use water, a regular sponge and you'll get rid of most of the soap. If some is still left, scrape it out with your fingers, it can be placed back with the rest of your soap and reused. After that I just give it a quick rinse and leave it out to dry. Perfectly clean every time.

    • @30DayReviews
      @30DayReviews  Před 10 měsíci +2

      this is true but it can take much much longer. one of my bowls has carves thin cercles in the bottom that the soap sticks into. it would take a verry verry long time to clean that. I was also just pointing out the good and bad of bowls so that people could choose for themselves. Gal you like your wood bowls! me i prefer ceramic or plastic.

    I use a plastic take-out soup bowl that has a textured bottom like the blue one in the video.

    I'm just getting into proper shaving lather - at the same time as running down my supply of not very good razors before moving on to two better ones that I shall alternate between (blade life alternation) while I evaluate blades. I bought the steel scuttle you show. I do have one slight advantage when at home - I shave before fitting my prosthetic feet, so I am using my wheelchair at the time - this in turn makes my lap available to help. When away, it can depend on the height of available mirrors whether I sit or stand to shave.

    • @30DayReviews
      @30DayReviews  Před rokem

      I have to agree that being able to use your lap with the scuttle is an advantage but also probably a disadvantage when it comes to the actual shaving as you cant just lean over the sink to not make a mess. but I guess I could verry well be wrong since i have no experience as you do.

    Thanks for a very informative review. Now I'm retired, I've gone from a quick shave while having a shower into a more relaxed, enjoyable experience. I was looking for a shaving bowl, but at the moment I use my cupped hand to lather my soap (yes, I'm that mean!) I also put my DE safety razor into the hot water to warm that up too, I've not seen any videos where they do that. The metal bowls you had look like the ones I used for the food bowls for my pet fancy rats. I'll have to dig them out. Thanks again!

      I'm.brand new to wet shaving and just started the experimenting with hard soaps, creams, softer soaps, different types of mugs and scuttles and I love it. I also keep my razor in some warm water along with the brush before I shave. I saw someone else do it in some video can't remember who it was.

      Sorry im just getting to this comment. Thanks for watching my video and Im glad that you liked it. Hey even with all these bowls I still use my hand sometimes it works well i find. the metal pet bowls may work but it helps to have verry tall sides or the lather can want to work its way out of the bowl.

  • @richardsanchez5444
    @richardsanchez5444 Před rokem +1

    I mostly use creams but I just bought the giant cella brick and dedicated a mug for just that soap. I like that it's a hard soap but not too hard you can mold it and it stick to the mug pretty well. And it's pretty damn slick considering I didn't work up a great lather due to the fact I used the wrong scuttle the first time. (It has holes in the top so the lather would get pushed down through them. I'm gonna use it again next Friday and I'm sure I'll have a better shave. As it is it was still pretty damn good.

      thats good. and that seems like an odd skuttle dont think I seen one with holes in it before. sorry Im just seeing this. how was your next shave with it?

    I’m a cheap ,I mean frugal person and I use a Ziplock covered bowl for solid pucks that way i don’t have to worry about dropping it
