I love how the video you are watching is from my CZcams channel 😎 And Thank You for placing a link to my channel in the video description.
The wild dude who flopped on the floor was the bassist (Capt Sensible). Guitarist Brian James was mostly hidden in the background wearing black
was chatting to the manager of The Damned yesterday!!?? more surprises on the way!!
they were punk but they could actually play there instruments that's why there so good
Alongside a host of other punk bands from the same era.
I bought this song as a single in 1976 (that's a 7 inch 45 rpm record for any teenagers looking in) and my prog rock loving mates all looked down their noses at me for it. I regret nothing of course. They were a great band, much tighter than they got credit for. Try New Rose for another adrenaline-fuelled 3 minutes of greatness.
YES, my next Damned song to react to! Thanks!
@@intothemusic908 You know it makes sense. 😉
This was released in 1977. New Rose was released in 1976, and was widely acknowledged as the first punk single (in the UK at least).
This is great, I've been cleaning the garage and listening to the Damned all day. Fantastic band, so many great albums, the goth stuff too. Phantasmagoria is really beautiful
This song will really grab your attention.
The band was built around the guitarist Brian James at first, but then the other three started to become even more known than him as characters within the band. The Damned had that punk veneer with super good musicianship bubbling underneath. They've got a lot of other astounding material.
Great input! Appreciate!!
Watching them with T. rex show and playing live with T. rex great music
Always said this should have been the first punk single. Understand why New Rose was chosen, but this has so much more to offer.
Damned damned damned is a classic debut.
Bassist Captain Sensible switched to guitar when The Damned released their third album Machine Gun Etiquette in 1979, and it was him you heard on the track "Ignite" in 1982.
The Damned were originally musically influenced by The Stooges and the MC5 and also by the US psychedelic garage rock of the 60s.
After their second album, their musical influences expanded a lot. From their fourth album (entitled The Black Album) in 1980, they even made a 17-minute mini-epic called "Curtain Call" !!! You should hear it !
THE DAMNED AND THE STRANGLERS WERE HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE ALL OTHER BANDS. THEY EVOLVED AND TRIED DIFFERENT MUSICAL GENRES. YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THEIR LATER STUFF. THEY ARE STILL PRODUCING FANTASTIC MUSIC.
They couldn't lace the Clash s boots if they tried Reggae .For punk they weren't head and shoulders above the Ruts( support )at the MGE tour and for goth music The Banshees would like a word 🤘🤘
Great band still rocking albeit with a few different members, but still great today!
I liked it a lot. I overlooked this band. I kinda thought they were cartoonist so I didn't get into them. But it was fun. As for the guitarist and his solo, I think they were performing a pre recorded track. Said Captain, said wot?
They have a new video out Invisible Man. Think neat neat neat is about being a kept man, where most of time it's a kept woman in life.
Greg, I can't believe you didn't realise that was the band MIMING! Not only that, but MIMING A DIFFERENT SONG ENTIRELY 😂
Lol! Really!? That's what happens when I react close to midnight. Song sounded good though!😂
New Rose is a three minute piece of frenetic raw energy. It manages to combine the youthful exuberance of punk and echo the spirit of 50s rock n roll. Brings a smile to the heart. The Damned were big friends with Motörhead supporting them on tour, collaborating with them on the single Over The Top and Lemmy stepping in to play bass for them on occasion.
Meanwhile Captain Sensible had a hit with a cover of Happy Talk which was…less memorable.
New Rose will be my next Damned reaction. Probably a few weeks from now.
The Damned is the only band that could say they had a bassist from Motorhead and a drummer from Culture Club.
Dave Vanian has always dressed full on goth, in fact probably invented it. Sensible dressed in the exact opposite way, sometimes in dresses but always very colourfully.
I dress like that now and then.
The clown and the vampire.
I had Chris react to another song that was used in Baby Driver.
Bellbottoms
Oh, man . . . that was around this time last year, correct? Hard to remember all them!
Americans had Ramones Blondie Devo! We British had the cream of punk The Damned clash, strangles sex, pistols, Buzzcocks Ian dury John cooper Clarke.
czcams.com/video/9wBu6SrLobk/video.html Bit of a longer solo for you my friend!
Hi Greg
I made my first kofi request on your channel yesterday but the only good version of the song is the official video. I hope this won't be an issue.
Thanks
Glenn
Thanks, Glenn! I'll do the reaction with that version, and if it gets blocked then at least we'll know I tried.
@@intothemusic908 Thanks Greg. I appreciate it. I realized after I sent the request that you've mentioned that problem before. I really hope it doesn't get blocked but at least you'll see it.
Take care
Glenn
2:00 Gothic did not exist before the Damned
Goth came out of the Damned and the Banshees. When they existed Goth did not exist
