    The Faces are an offshoot of one of the great bands of the sixties, The Small Faces. After the incredible vocalist, Steve Marriott, left to form Humble Pie, the remaining members (Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagen, and Kenney Jones) formed the Faces with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart. They dropped the "Small" from the name because Wood and Stewart were much taller than the other members. The Small Faces are well worth checking out to hear Marriott's soulful vocals along with the great songwriting and musical chops.

    Rod Stewart is at his best as a raunchy, loose, and carefree singer, as he was early in his career. With Faces abd as a solo artist, his charm and talent as a vocalist is irresistible. After the success of his album Footloose and Fancy Free, he decided to become more commercial in his music. Only occasionally giving us flashes of his old self during his 8o's heyday.
    But once a scoundrel, you can never be satisfied with just putting out records to pay the bills. Your nature can not be denied, and in these songs, they do.

    BORN LOOSE, my personal favorite.

      Bubblegum?!?! Steve Marriott is rolling over in his grave! Small Faces were a hot, raving R&B band before their awful manger and the record company made them record songs that were sure to be "hits". The band thought of themselves a soul boys, so that killed them. Sadly, because they were small and adorable, the teeny boppers overwhelmed them, so they felt they were not taken seriously as musicians. This is one of the reasons Marriott quit the band to become a rocker with Humble Pie.

But it is a great song, I think it's lovely - Steve had a stunning voice.

    Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood came to The Faces from the Jeff Beck Group. Ronnie has been in the Rolling Stones since 1975. Drummer Kenny Jones originally replaced Keith Moon in The Who before giving way to Zak Starkey. Ian McLagen was a legendary keyboardist in The Small Faces and Faces, collaborated with the Rolling Stones, and did solo work. Bassist Ronnie Lane had formed the Small Faces in 1965 and reformed them when Marriott left. However, he developed MS and died from it in 1997. All of these guys played on Rod's first solo album, Every Picture Tells A Story.

    Ronnie Wood, although still a member of Faces, toured North America with the Rolling Stones in 1975; Faces announced their break-up in December of that year, and Wood was officially declared a member of the Rolling Stones on 23 April 1976.
    Wood is a well-known visual artist. When he was a child his drawings were featured on the BBC television programme Sketch Club; he won one of that programme's competitions, he went on to train at the Ealing Art College, London, England, as had both his brothers. Other notable musicians, Freddie Mercury of Queen and Pete Townshend of the Who, also attended that college in the 1960s.
    Wood's paintings, drawings and prints frequently feature icons of popular culture and have been exhibited all over the world. He did the cover artwork to Eric Clapton's 1988 box set Crossroads.

    Guitarist Ron Wood became a Rolling Stone in '75... he was the Faces guitarist on this song's album and on most every of Rod's early solo albums including "Every Picture Tells a Story"- in fact he co-wrote much of Rod's early work. "Every Picture Tells a Story" is a must have Rod Stewart album...
    Rod Stewart was the singer and Ron Wood was the bass player in the Jeff Beck Group from 1967 to 1969.
    Speaking of which Jeff Beck's "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" from the album "Blow by Blow" is a must have track for most guitarist interested in musical dynamics on the instrument.
    Might interest you to know Steve Marriott was in the Faces too at one time and you may know that name from the band Humble Pie along with Peter Frampton.

    • @quoilluminentur2981
      @quoilluminentur2981 Před rokem

      @@seanswinton6242 What *is* true is the 70s (and the 60s) were loaded with bands such as The Faces and Rod Stewart, as well as the Stones, Beatles, Yardbirds, Doors, Canned Heat, Animals, Rare Earth, Humble Pie, etc., who were marketed to clueless kids as the genuine issue; when, in fact, they were little more than over-hyped imitators of American R&B, Soul and Rock acts from the 50s and 60s. The less corporate-minded individuals among them would freely admit this, happy to take the lid off the fraud. Sure, they later added some window-dressing along the way, Dylan influences, Indian stylings, heavy borrowing from Pet Sounds, over-driven amplification, effects, but ... the music was, at it's core, unchanged. So, when I first heard The Black Crowes, acts like Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Ray Charles came to mind. The Stones and The Faces would likely tell you the same. They know they didn't come up with the style they played. It's their fans who persist in the myth, unfortunately.
      By the way, by the time Stewart was appearing with the likes of Kim Carnes and Tina Turner, he was closer to a lounge revue act, while hoping to sound current with synthesizer-pop. **Nothing** he did then would've given rise to The Black Crowes. You would have wanted to catch Rod between 1968-72.
