- Today I'm sharing what I got up to over the Valentine weekend. Mum and I surprised each other with some lovely treats! I also read some charming vintage books by Susan Tweedsmuir (very reminiscent of Jane Austen novels), which I chat about in the video too. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well!

Oooo, what lovely notebooks! I love blank notebooks for journals and ideas. I use one to keep track of the books I have read, another one for movies/TV series. I also keep one for my book club books so I have my notes for the discussions. I’m glad your mom is doing better. I recommend keeping Biafine cream (I got it from a drug store in France) at home for burns. When you apply it shortly after, it reduces pain dramatically and heals quickly. ❤️

Hi Miranda, sorry to hear about your Mum - I wish her a speedy recovery. I've found lavender oil to be helpful for healing burns and reducing inflammation. Thanks for sharing - enjoy your beautiful notebooks, Choosing Keeping looks like a lovely shop x

I love stationery. As a child, I used to spend all my allowance in pens and notebooks.
Sending a big recovery hug to your mum. I too LOVE notebooks and stationery. When we go to Italy I love buying notebooks in Il Papiro, they wrap them so beautifully- however, I don’t unwrap them for years and have a ‘stash’ that I like looking at and stroking (ah confessions!). Last Easter we were supposed to be in Florence and one of the things I had booked was a paper marbling course. I love marbled end papers. Take care. ps we had fondant fancies from Betty’s as our Valentine’s treat xx
I would love to buy stationery in Italy one day! That is definitely a dream of mine. The notebooks you bought sound exquisite! I love marbled paper and am keen to learn more about the techniques involved in making it sometime too. Betty's fondants are so yummy!! xxx

Love the journals. I use my journals to track some swaps prompts I’m always participating in Litsy. I like to use stickers, stamps and memorabilia to document in them. Like a scrapbook. I also use journals to keep books recommended by various CZcamsrs and to track readathons prompts I participate. I love journaling. Those are so gorgeous.! 😍❤️❤️❤️

Please, please keep an eye on the scold to make sure it doesn't go septic. Best wishes to you and your mum 🌿 essential oil of lavender is excellent for new burns. If it starts to get infected, I use echinacea tincture directly on any wound (it stings). That's my herbal suggestions but also GP might prescribe antibiotics to x

What thoughtful gifts. Those notebooks, like your tea table, are just gorgeous! I love to collect them as well. I can make myself quite anxious trying to decide how I want to use them, making sure the ink I spill is worth defacing the clean page. Your mom is one of the loveliest people. That kind of accident takes such a toll on mental health, too. I hope she is feeling much better-body and spirit--very soon. xx

Your Valentine's afternoon tea looked sooo beautiful! It's always a lot of fun to see what you're eating and drinking - and, especially, with opening up the basket. Such yummy things! You looked lovely in your floral dress and both sets of earrings are gorgeous. I only wore a red sweater on Valentine's Day, but I wish I'd dressed up more. Your mom is incredibly thoughtful to have gotten you such fantastic journals. Oh, I loved them! The bigger one with the flowers and plants on the front is my favorite. It was wonderful to see snowdrops in your video. I haven't even seen them in person (yet!), but I hope to someday. Not sure if I can find seeds to grow them in my own garden. Such gorgeous notebooks! so lovely! I absolutely adore stationery too, I used to buy notebooks quite compulsively. But also use them non stop so... it's not just hoarding. I use them for 2 main things: daily journaling and scrapbooking. I then have a notebook to keep track of books I buy and read, another little one where I write down all the films and tv series I watch (after a while I tend to forget if I saw them haha) and... my weekly planner, of course, for work, appointments, bills, etc. Paraphrasing the saying ' If there's a notebook, there's a will' ;) Hope Donna has a speedy recovery! all the best for her (and you, of course). have a great week. Your journals are so beautiful (and great uses for them)! What lovely gifts you have given your mom and vice versa! I love when authors bring up characters across books, even just a mention. I've noticed Barbara Pym does that. I just read A Glass of Blessings and there are a couple characters mentioned there from Excellent Women. I hope your mom is soon feeling her old self again. We had a surprise snow/ice storm here over the weekend. It was exciting! I'm thankful we didn't have to go anywhere and can work from home!

Best well wishes for Donna. That Valentine's Tea table was so inspiring, and sweet of you to plan for your Mother. My youngest daughter and my Birthday are both this month, so I usually try and do the same kind of thing for us...years ago, when she was 7 I had a proper tea for her and her friends. Everyone came all dressed up, I made Madeline's, truffles, and a heart shaped raspberry cake. I gave each girl her own embroidery hoop, cloth, & floss and taught them all how to embroider a simple sampler. Ah, those were the day's! Your videos bring back those special memories. Love your mom's gifts to you...I also have an addiction to notebooks and all things stationary related. I just love paper in general! By the way, Love your dress again...where do you find your lovely clothes?

The embroidery kits were such a lovely touch too. The first dress in the video is an old one from Cabbages & Roses and the second one is an old one from TOAST. I don't buy clothes that often, and I wear them for years; both TOAST & Cabbages & Roses are places I shop from whenever I'm looking for something new, and they do great sales! xxx

I can't seem to watch your videos without adding some books to my TBR. Good thing there were only two mentioned this time! I just interloaned Cousin Harriet from MEL (Michigan Electronic Library) and am eager to receive it. As you like stationery so much, you might be interested in checking out the Gwen Frostic website. She was a lifelong Michigan resident who overcame a physical handicap to start her own business making block prints from carved linoleum. Her art is nature-inspired and truly beautiful. She also led quite a life for a woman born in 1906 and living with a physical disability. It is really nice to see that her studio is going strong and her art is still available.
