Someone mentioned Judi Dench & it reminded me of the film, Mrs. Brown. It was a very enjoyable story of an older Queen Victoria. The film also stars Billy Connolly, Gerard Butler & Geoffrey Palmer.

I totally agree with your #1 film, Persuasion, cannot be topped! Loved North & South book and miniseries ;) I also really was blown away by the Jane Eyre minseries starring Timothy Dalton. It was so close to the book, even the scene with Rochester pretending to be a Romani!!

The Painted Veil is absolutely wonderful. Music, costumes, story. My favourite Jane Austen is the even earlier TV version with a screenplay by Fay Weldon. Weldon also wrote a lovely introduction to Austen in the guise of letters to a niece: Letters to Alice. You’d like it. David Rintoul is perfect as Mr Darcy. Perfect.

I don’t think you go back as far as the ‘I Claudius’ series..terrifying! Also Sword of Honour with Daniel Craig of all people..based on the Evelyn Waugh Trilogy pm WW2. Also Fortunes of War with Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh. Lovely lovely choices! I agree with Cranford, and Persuasion with Sally Hawkins.
I keep entire shelves of all of these, for comfort and calm! Might mention The Scarlet Pimpernel with Richard E Grant, and the Emma with Romola Garai and A Man for All Seasons among the films. Rupert Penny Jones was v good in The 39 steps. the Old Testament of Youth. So much wonderful stuff to watch again and again!
    Loved your choices!

This was such an enjoyable video, thank you so much. I am not sure that it qualifies but the Anne of Green Gables series with Megan Follows really captivated me. Canadian television has produced some nice period dramas but they are difficult to obtain. Road to Avonlea was a tv show spinoff of Anne of Green Gables and very sweet. Wind at my Back was very nice too (I didn’t like how they ended it but it definitely was different and unexpected). I remember when Canadian television aired Pride and Prejudice (in the 90’s) - I could not believe my eyes and ears, it was so captivating and so different from anything I had ever seen. This was the Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle production. It aired one episode every Sunday night and I was absolutely hooked. I bought the VHS series for $100.00 which back then was a big investment (6 videos) and my British Mother-in-Law was also a great fan with her own copy of the series. She watched it over and over again - as did we and we quote from it to this day. Both the productions of Pride and Prejudice and Anne of Green Gables resulted in my reading all I could find from both authors, what a gift they have been to my soul. I too am a great fan of the Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow and Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson. Downton Abbey didn’t really captivate me and Outlander is a big ‘no thanks’. I just discovered you and am so pleased, it’s lovely to hear from you and your sweet Mum. Again, thank you💕

I agree with all your choices, and mirror your thoughts on Miss Marple, the theme tune can, to this day, still instill in me a real buzz of excitement. I know I am late to the party, but my memory of a really good oldie was the BBC TV series 'To serve them all my days' from the books by R.F.Delderfied and starred John Duttine which was broadcast in 1980/1981. Hello Miranda and Donna. This was a great video. I have seen some of your recommendations and loved them. Period dramas are my absolute favorite and also classic movies from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. That is mostly all I watch. Two of my very favorite series that were not on your lists are The Road to Avonlea and Larkrise To Candleford. I own both of them and now I am in the mood to see them again. I love the new Poldark and I still need to purchase the final season. Also I am a huge Downton Abbey fan. I love Outlander probably because I am of Scottish decent and it is something my husband will watch also. Although, like you, I only made it through the first book which I did love, but I just couldn't get into book 2 and so on. I would like to try again some day. I a happy to hear that you too like the new Emma. I had not heard many good reviews of it and that is why I have been hesitant to purchase it. I have the Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and now I want to watch it again too. I will be checking out Persuasion too. I did finally break down and watch Anne with an E. I have to say I was surprised I did not hate it as it strayed from the books so much. I love anything related to Anne. I believe I have all of the versions of Little Women in my collection but one series done by PBS. I love them all, but my favorite is the one from the 1990s starring Susan Sarandon. One series I would like to try is The Wind At My Back which is also produced by Sullivan Entertainment out of Canada. Another one of their series that I have in my collection is Emily of New Moon based on L. M. Montgomery's books. Love it too. I could rattle on forever about period movies and series. I've seen and loved most of the shows you mentioned here.
'All Creatures Great and Small' used to come on at 7pm on Sunday evenings, and my family used to watch it after a roast dinner each week. I had forgotten about that until I saw you mention that show.
Another favourite period show of mine that I thought you might mention, though perhaps you didn't like it for some reason, is the Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett.
The cashew recipe sounded really good. Can't wait to try it!

I really enjoyed watching this video. The most recent period drama I've watched that I really liked was "Harlots." I didn't think I would like it at first, but the cast was so good, not to mention the costumes, and the drama of the story really pulled me in. While not exactly a period drama, you should check out the 2004 film "Bride & Prejudice." It's kind of a Bollywood adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice." I remember seeing it in the depths of winter, and it was just such a colorful, fun movie that it made me forget about the bleak weather outside.

My favorites from your list are the AC Miss Marple, AC Poirot, Darling Buds of May, North and South, The Crown, Downton Abbey, Little Women (the 90s version) and Jane Eyre .
I can't wait to watch Mapp & Lucia, Foyle's War, The Pallisers, Love And Friendship, The Guernsey Literary and PPS (loved the book, too!), Emma, Persuasion and The Pride & Prejudice TV series.
More of my favorite TV shows are The Vicar of Dibley, Keeping Up Appearances, Father Brown, Doc Martin, Victoria, Miranda, The Paradise and Call the Midwife. Thank you so much, Miranda!! Thank you for mentioning so many favourite films of mine. I rewatch Pride & Prejudice a few times a year and Poirot (all seasons) once a year, love them so much. I also loved Little Women 2017 adaptation (3 episodes), it's soooo good, I think it's underestimated. Last Friday it was my birthday and we watched Emma again, it was fun😉 We are on the same page in relation to Mansfield Park and Outlander. During Christmas holidays I rewatched various adaptations of Mansfield Park and I love the old one. I have all adaptations of Great Expectations and the last one was good as well. Thinking of Bridgerton, I can't help mentioning the book 'The Perfect Visit' by Stuart Bennett, in which a lady travels to visit Jane Austen and her friend travels to visit Shakespeare. Loved it. North and South 💔💔💔 Cranford, Wives and Daughters. I love Tess of the D'Urbervilles, the book, radio and TV adaptation. So, it's impossible to mention everything, there are so many good period dramas...

You've mentioned so many of my favourites here, the 1995 P&P series and Persuasion film are probably my top too. Just behind those is Our Mutual Friend from 1998, brilliant main cast but what made it for me was the secondary character portrayals like Riderhood and Jennny Wren. The BBC Bleak House was great also, again with such good minor characters like Krook and Guppy. I think my favourite version of Emma was the Kate Beckinsale one with Prunella Scales playing Miss Bates but I really like the 2020 too.
