    This series is clever idea. I basically abandon most games because I get annoyed with my own ineptitude in city design and city development.
    I might have the patience to see a game through to where I face problems like this. Then the game, like real life starts to get interesting... Keep up the good work

    What a great idea for a video series!! I'm a very new player to the game and while your normal video series have been extremely useful, this helps out a lot!
    I don't know how many others would find it useful, but trade routes from island to island and especially from the new world to the old seem to be the baine of my existence. My solution has been to pause production chains until there is a good amount of items/ingredients in stock on the island I'm trying to produce the final goods on. But then the newspaper yells at me for a "canned good shortage" 🤦🏻‍♀️ Cotton from the new world has been my life's struggle lol
    Any way....moral of the story is....great series idea! Love the videos 😁

    My first save I abandoned because it was a disaster. Not nearly as bad as this but there were just too many shortages I didn't want to deal with along with a few other major problems. My second save I started I found the statistics page in the game and followed it religiously. Anything that was a little short I immediately fixed and got going again. Followin that chart is one of the best things you can do it this game.

  • @darredenko
    @darredenko Před rokem +1

    Sheesh this hurt my eyes to watch.
    To any new players out there:
    -Check your production screen (CTRL + Q) OFTEN, and I mean OFTEN. Every time you pop down more houses, demands change, so if you just upgraded 10 houses to the next tier, check your production rates to see what went up or down.
    -In the Needs/Happiness tab for your citizens, hover over each good to see what it gives you. A church, for example, provides only happiness, but if you look at something like the Variety Theatre, it gives you +coins for every Artisan it can reach, both of these buildings are luxury buildings. A great tip when you reach Artisans is to try to skip the Canned Food and head straight for the Sewing Machines instead. Canned Food gives you about 7 coins per Artisan, but the Sewing Machines are double that. Setting up Canned Food production takes a lot of workforce and since there's a lot of buildings, a lot of maintenance cost. Sewing Machines are way more simple to produce, and you don't need as many factories.
    -Read the production time of certain goods, it's way easier to keep track of if you have "sets" of production lines. Bread for example: 2 farms, 1 mill, 2 bakeries. So the next time you're running low on bread, just add another set of that. We saw a great example in this video with the coffee and tobacco. It feels like the person with this save file saw "I'm not producing enough coffee, guess I'll put down some more coffee makers" without adding the coffee plantation necessary for it to actually produce that much coffee. Adding 1 coffe factories? You need two plantations, every time (not factoring in productivity bonuses and other stuff). With sets of production lines, you never have to guess which good is running out in the middle of the production, you really only have to keep an eye on the end product.
    -Plan ahead and abuse as much space as you can. When you settle your first island in a new game. Take a look at it and guesstimate where you'll have certain production areas. Keeping production organized makes it much easier to troubleshoot problems, rather than having 10 factories of one good, but they're all in different places and it becomes a complete mess. If you have played a couple of times before, and gotten to Artisans, Engineers, Investors and that fun stuff, you should already have a grasp of what you need and how much of it when you start a new game.

    i think this might all started because of how newbie reacted to this game (just like me). You happily build the first few houses, then you realize your money start swinging negative or your goods keep swinging negative and then your population also go negative. Which i guess is the reason why things are all over the place with weird road etc., because we are just trying to build what we want at that time.
    You get into panic mode, keep building and building without waiting for the effect, one moment you solve your production, one moment you short of workers. Your life is like a hamster trying to balance on a ping pong ball while eating - very busy, never stable :D

    Just wanted to add my commendation, this is a great way to help others with the game. I'm fairly early days into the game, just now playing campaign on advanced to give me a challenge. I did wonder what would be your recommendation to someone starting out on the game as to set-up, ai etc?
    Anyway, many thanks again, inspirational gaming at its best!

    • @TakaYouTube
      @TakaYouTube  Před 3 lety +1

      If you are BRAND new to the game, I would do a custom difficulty campaign playthrough. Remove the 3 AI that it recommends you play against on Normal so you have no competition for islands. Other than that, leave all settings as default and then get started! This will let you learn the basic mechanics of the game and not have you be stressed about trying to compete with others.

I mean old and new world production chains both have important and less important stuff but fixing the whole new world would definitley not be my priority here. I mean it works fiine because of the huge savings but still.

    Very helpful for a new player. You went over a bunch of things I have been doing wrong or not doing. I definitely needed help understanding production chains and trade routes (not that I completely understand them yet, but at least I have an idea),
    Also, about trade routes, do you ever use the charter routes? I have been using 2-3 Frigates to escort my Clippers because that b**** Ann keeps sinking them. I was thinking it would be much cheaper and worry free to have the goods transported by a neutral party despite the fees.

    • @TakaYouTube
      @TakaYouTube  Před 3 lety

      As killa mentioned, charter routes can still be attacked and they are VERY slow. So basically they are just an easy target. You can start requesting cease-fires with her (what I recommend) and eventually get peace, stay at war and have a fleet to deal with her ships, or start rolling for white flags at Nate's harbor in Cape Trelawney (if you have the DLC) or at Isabella.
