Autistic people are capable of being able to tell if a conversation is flowing naturally despite struggling with social cues. Especially since conversation can be a struggle in the first place. But yeah, that conversation wasn’t flowing and I think he could tell but he was just hoping maybe he could turn it around in his favor and he was clearly nervous. As someone who frequently received these uncomfortably long, skin crawlingly creepy 'flirtatious encounters' from random men (who were ALWAYS between 5-15 years older than I was) from the time I was 14 until my mid-twenties. This video brought the memories flooding back. I bought fake wedding rings to wear to work. I didn't wear makeup. Always wore my hair in a ponytail or loose bun. As a pharmacy tech our uniform had a button up vest and a name tag for crying out loud!
There are far more of these 'persistent' guys than most men realize. As much as things are getting better, women are still socialized to be polite, helpful, collaborative, and amiable. We're taught to consider other people's feelings before our own. Working in retail or customer service drills these traits into you further. You do what you can to make _suggestions_ that you're not available, such as wearing a fake 'wedding ring' or mentioning your real or imaginary significant other.
But like others have said, there are always men who refuse to take rejection. I had one guy in his early 70s, who called my work so often just "ask me about my day" that _I got written up for it_ because his harassing calls interfered with our normal workflow. The old guy brought me a some kind of Smooth Jazz CD with a nude woman in shadows on the cover. When I refused his gift telling him that as pharmacy employees we aren't allowed to accept gifts of any kind as they can be considered 'bribes'. He 'forgot' the CD when he left. My coworkers had to screen all the incoming calls. When he hadn't heard my voice in 3-4 days he showed up at the pharmacy in person. When I arrived for my afternoon shift the cashier at the front of the store said my "boyfriend" had been by an hour earlier looking for me and said he'd be back later. I kept my cool. Gave him back his CD. Told him that his continued unwanted attention was causing issues for me with my supervisor. I had no problem helping him with anything pharmacy related but I could not engage in casual conversations with him while I was working. He apologized and left. I got written up again because the panic attack I had immediately in my car immediately after that encounter took longer than the 15-minute 'break' I was allowed. He left a voicemail once on the pharmacy voicemail system that had maybe 15 seconds of audio from a Michael Bublé song and then the old man saying, with a creepy and unnatural southern drawl, "I've gotta you under my skin, honey."
That old guy is just one of literally dozens like him. Let me be clear, I'm not even a knockout/bombshell. I've always been somewhat overweight. I'm definitely average looking without makeup (how I am 99% of the time) but when I want to put in the effort, I 'clean up' pretty well.
Moral of the story: Dropping the complement and running away is completely acceptable (and preferable) in most cases.

@@xGhostKidx9I think people should observe and understand social cues. Obviously the guy in the video probably lacks that. If you can tell the person is uncomfortable, it's probably a good idea to stop. I'd say if it's someone you see work in a place you usually go to, I think the long game is better. Leaving a compliment here and there, wishing a good day. At some point, the person will feel more comfortable and be more receptive to conversations. It'll be easier to ask them out. I think the problem with dating is that people seem in a hurry to get laid, that's a put off for many others.

There's a straightforward trick to avoid unnecessary awkwardness. When you ask her the first two questions and notice that she's not very attentive, i.e. doesn't elaborate at all, just ask her "you're not really interested in having a conversation, are ya?". She'll likely respond "no", to which you say "fair enough, I won't bother you, have a lovely day" and walk away. It's really that simple.

@Heuristics Well, if that's how you want to perceive it, ok. In my world, if you're in doubt, asking if someone doesn't want to have a conversation and politely wishing them a good day is something to be expected, but again, maybe it's a cultural difference. From experience, I can say that some people are very introverted and shy, so it takes a while for them to open up. They don't necessarily want you to leave even when they don't seem very talkative at first, it's actually quite common. Simply checking if a girl is interested in talking with you isn't an assault.

I used to work for a licensed Starbucks, and there was this older man who would always walk around the store and talk to all the female employees. Eventually he started coming up to me and try to talk to me, and whenever I had a line he would stand and wait on the side while I helped customers. I hated this more than words can describe. Plus he would always try and bring me things (I refused but he would leave anyway) and asked me to go get coffee with him - Bear in mind, I was stuck in my department and if I walked away I couldn’t do my job - after I said no, he came in the next day and slammed his hands on the counter and raised his voice at me “since you won’t go and get coffee with me, can I at least get one now!?”
I have transferred to at least two different stores because my job has changed, and somehow he has found me each time. Last weekend he showed up looking for me after calling multiple stores. He left me some books, but my heart sank when I saw him - I ran the opposite way into the offices. I was running the store that day covering for my boss, so I had another male coworker tell me when he left because I was hiding in the back.
It sucks, but moral of the story: don’t flirt or harass people in customer service, it’s pathetic because not only are you distracting workers from doing their jobs but you’re just making them far more uncomfortable in a place that they go to every day to make their money.👏

@@spirit_green there's no such thing as a real man. Being a man isn't a title of nobility it's just something that happens to people by nature of being themselves. No man is more or less a man and nobody is able to stop being a man (let me be clear that's not anti-trans, trans people don't just become anything they were always something and are just trying to figure it out).
Also even if there were real men and guys like that are fake men, fake men still exist. They don't just conveniently stop bothering people because you decided their man card is invalid.
I do like your correction at the end. This is about decency. Of course there can be exceptions like someone who is autistic could still be a decent human being in this situation as not recognizing nonverbal cues or proper situations to initiate certain kinds of interactions is very much a struggle for many people with ASD.

The thing with flirting is, it's all about reading the other person. You shoot your shot, and if you miss you move on. This man missed, and proceeded to unload a double drum magazine and wasn't even close to landing a single shot. He missed so bad he shot at the broad side of a barn and hit the next barn over, and he somehow didn't realize how disinterested she was. From my experience, the best thing you can do is just chat and maybe get some form of communication with them and try to develop a friendship first. 99% of the time just walking up to someone and flirting with them is just gonna shock them and then weird them out. Play the slow game with multiple people at once and you'll have more success, and likely make friends out of your failures.

This is what happens when you watch and read too many “how to be alpha and not be beta videos” and “signs she likes you” it makes you insecure and not yourself. Here are some of my lessons with rejection.
      1. If your already developing feelings for a girl, immediately take the chances and opportunity to start a conversation, be friends with her at an appropriate time. If you notice that she’s not interested in all the conversations your having or she gives you an answer which is no, then move on confidently being yourself. Don’t take time for granted if your developing feelings for a girl, girls can lose interest very quick if you don’t do anything just go up, talk to her and be yourself pretty much it. You don’t want to be the type of guy that does nothing but stare at her and develop these feelings and fantasies that will eventually come crashing down at you when she says no. Don’t fantasize too much, that’s when you waste time.
      2. Don’t bottle up your emotions and throw throw them at the girl. Can you imagine if you straight up told her confidently or awkwardly to a girl that you’ve been having feelings for her for so long yet you never talked to her, never had a conversation, never flirted, that’s weird af. It’s like some random ass person throwing coffee at your face and your like “ayo wtf was that.” Start as friends and just go from there, no need to over complicate things. And stop fearing all the possible rejections that can happen “oh what if she tells everyone, oh what if she looks at me this what if that” like bro stfu how do you that’s going to happen. If she does just ignore it and focus on your life and goals, and everyone else will forget it. This is why we gotta get rid of these alpha male strategy videos on CZcams. They give these great advices but with this whole “MaTheMatical PrOcESS” on getting a girlfriend. Bro here’s the key:
      1. Be yourself
      2. Be healthy.
That’s it. Stop watching these videos. If you want to keep watching them, take them with a TINY TINY piece of salt. I hope everyone is great and living their best lives.

protip for socially awkward ppl: dont flirt w ppl who r working. if ur bad at social queues and flirt w someone whos at work, u wont be able to pick up if they are uncomfortable bc at work customer service people are punished for having tone or body language that is "unfriendly"

Honestly, the amount of creeps that have "flirted" with me at work is awful. I've had men be like this guy is to saying they want to put a baby in me, not even knowing my name. I had a woman flirt with me and when I said I wasn't interested, she pestered on about how I'm a fake bisexual, she can "flip women on" if I "let her try", and she kept coming in and giving me notes. My manager? Did nothing because I wasn't "being threatened". I hate that retail workers have to be nice to people who clearly need to be told to stop.

That's so awful. Worked in retail and once I helped this older man find something he needed and then he came back and asked my co-workers questions about me. Like my shifts, name, etc.
When I came back from my break, I was left alone with that guy, without being told how creepy he acted, and he kept making trouble and a fuss about every single aspect just to be in the store longer. I'm sure he thought he was charming and clever, but it made my job extemely hard, had to keep smiling even though he was incredibly annoying and I almost gave up and told him to come back later when my coworker is on shift, because my brain got fried trying to reason with him, and when my male coworker came, this customer suddenly was like "Actually, this item will remain. Yes, I changed my mind. I don't want to exchange it." 🤦🏻‍♂️

@UCxcfAQUmMaabGEGW7bh9ruQ As a fellow guy, no. You’re feelings are the subject of whim, don’t let your actions be dictated by something like that. Nobody’s perfect but the most basic mature guy can learn to look past his feelings, at the very least when other people are involved. I really hope you’re young and just haven’t come to terms with how to handle your feelings, but trust me, Charlie’s right. Don’t be this guy. I spent way too much of high school being that guy. Really wish I hadn’t.
