I was 10 yrs old when Elvis from Hawaii went via Satellite... and at that time, we had an extra black and white TV and I asked my parents can I watch the concert? They did and there I was was looking up watching with great music and history in the making lol. And yes, my parents, finally bought the album with two LPs enclosed like a folder with Elvis from Hawaii. Since then and until now, always been a fan and forever will!! :D

The song, Baker, as you may know, was written & originally recorded by none other than James Taylor. But when asked about this performance in an interview James Taylor said that going forward he would perform it the Elvis way.
Others write original songs, Elvis didn't.
What Elvis did was interpret, arrange the material his own way & usually -- he showed the songwriters /artists how the song should be sung. This was one. Taylor said he was quite impressed with the cover of his song.
Bob Dylan said something similar when he heard Elvis' version of "Tomorrow Is a Long Time." Dylan said it was one of his favorite cherished covers of his own songs.

Great review. I saw Elvis in concert in 74 and 75. This Aloha concert is his greatest performance in my opinion. I saw it onTV, purchased the album, 8 track, cassette, CD and DVD! Never gets old.
I was 8 at the time of this concert. I was 4 years away from falling in love with him. So I missed it.

He kept that yellow lei on till the end, a crown he was given on his way from the stage is on show at Graceland, that shows the man, things he was given he cherished...

I watched the broadcast of the Aloha concert. It was televised direct in Australia. To be honest, I was so overwhelmed seeing this in real time, that I barely remembered a moment of it. All I remember is feeling super elated. I feel blessed to still be alive to have access to all the technology that lets me relive this concert over and over. I am happy that you are rediscovering Elvis. Your journey may be a long one. Elvis recorded 768 individual song titles and only about 20 or so are forgettable. His talent was so immense that he breathed a superb quality into even some of the dumbest of his movie songs, or at least some humour. I will watch your journey and give you some suggestions along the way.

This is the first concert ever shown via satellite as only Elvis could have pulled this one off ! ! ! We had just gotten our first colored television and couldn't believe what I was seeing ! ! ! Elvis was beautiful and was always on the cutting edge of musical history ! ! ! Great reaction !

I was really touched by your reaction Baker, Thank you. Wow! Elvis could Really sing the blues. 'Merry Christmas Baby' is probably one of the best 'studio' examples of this. Again you have the legendary 'James Burton' on Lead guitar, in fact at one point (during 'Merry Christmas Baby' from 1971) Elvis almost shouts in a cool voice: 'Dig it in James, Dig it in!' 😀

I remember this concert I was 8 but I remember u can’t forget this beautiful man walking out on that stage and blowing u away. My love affair was solidified that night and continues to this day 🤣 50 years now he’s been my longest affair 🤣🤣 and will be till I’m buried. Seen by 1.5 billion when there were 3.2 billion population. The Beatles only got 25 million viewers. Nobody has ever matched this. Sony , his recording company says he has sold 6 billion recordings world wide. Nobody else is close. His music is still going triple platinum and diamond.
