To think that 45 years later, Elvis' singing, and charisma still has that kind of power over the average person who hears him sing...that's a strong comment on why he'll always be known as the King of Rock and Roll! Great reaction video! Thanks!

I’ve watched this so many times so to be honest I watched you watching him. Your reaction, the emotion it stirs and the loss for words that it evokes is the same reaction that so many of us have. In the movie theatre, I just found myself whispering “Oh God.” I couldn’t help it because I knew he was unwell plus the shortness of breath. When did we ever see him short of breath when singing? Never. But there’s that smile. So I felt, “dear God, he’s really sick but he’s out there keeping connected to his fans and we are connected to him. Elvis Presley…the most beloved singer, entertainer, actor and philanthropist in history. Every time I think of the movie and he says, “No one is going to remember me” I weep at how he must have been feeling that he could think such a thing. I thought your reaction was beautiful. I saw you trying to find the words and I thought, “don’t worry bro, you and millions of the rest of us.” Thank you for such an eloquent review.

Years ago, I heard someone compare this performance to Shakespeare's King Lear: all the conceits of youth are gone... and he really, humbly, NEEDS love. His voice was all he had left, and his completely disarming smile. Hope he's okay, wherever he is.

He died six weeks later. Elvis was very sick, thus he was using meds to kill pain. He even had bone cancer. He knew he was dying. Larry Gellar begged him to cancel tour, but he said he couldn’t cuz there were 200 people depending on him. He never forgot his poverty roots. He did say he’d go away after next concert, which he never made. Autopsy showed Elvis already had three heart attacks. He suffered terrible pain from his 6’extra colon, which was kinked. You would be shocked if you knew all that was wrong medically with him. He was in pain all the time in his last few years. Thank you for the respect you have shown a great human being, who gave until he literally dropped dead.

a few hours before his death, on the night of his death, elvis presley played the acapella "blue eyes crying in the rain" on the piano. it shows the true love and greatness of a musician and that of an incredible artist. elvis believed in the true love of jesus and god which is greater than mortality. I say that as an atheist.

This is exactly the reaction I am expecting. It gets me every time I see it. It is emotional seeing him like this. His voice still cuts it like he always could, but you can also hear his pain and see his distress. He probably knew his end would not be too far away. He was sick and shouldn't have performed but they kept pushing him to perform. I'm sure he was embarrassed and drained, yet the performer he is, he put it aside and still gave everything he got, every time. Of course, seeing all this and knowing he died only weeks later, it's only natural to be moved and emotional. Great reaction! 👍

I think you'd call that the " Raging against the dying of the light " ..... it's a tough watch, I agree !
Footage is from Rapid City, South Dakota on 21st June 1977, his final performance was at the Market Square Arena, Indianapolis on June 26th which was by all accounts a " great show ", despite his physical appearance.
In the modern age, he would have taken some time out, gone into a detox facility, returned after a period of time, probably with an interview with Oprah, admitting some mistakes in his private life, warning America & the world of the dangers of addiction to prescription medication, and people would have loved him for it. However, he was the first Rock star, treading his own path and the first Betty Ford clinic didn't open until 1982 ...
