    Adam makes an aesthetic upgrade to his Captain America Winter Soldier shield replica, which involves an aluminum cutting technique he learned in his early BattleBots fabrication days! Follow along as Adam uses a router and template to carve a large ring of aluminum--a quick and efficient solution to a large piece of metal cutting!

Some of things I would recommend for this operation: two hands on the router, go counterclockwise for cuts that may climb, face-shield, and attaching vacuum wouldn't hurt. I'm happy too see Adam unplugging the router after the first cut. One of my mentors, who believed in unplugging all power tools when not in use, would say: Electricity can't jump that gap.

    You know, in the MCU it makes perfect sense that they would repaint the shield for every mission. It’s pretty straight forward, I mean SHIELD probably has people that would love to paint caps shield every time, or maybe even a fabricator that could easily take off the paint from the shield and repaint it in minutes if not seconds. I love that Marvel kept it so that it’s the same shield though. As far as the people who don’t live in Wakanda know, (pre age of Ultron) the only amount of Vibranium that exists in the MCU is caps shield. Love the build btw Adam!!! Love your work and I love you!! When using epoxy on aluminum: Wet sand, using the epoxy as the `wet'. Depending on the situation, raw resin may be appropriate, a short blend, or the appropriate blend for cure. If using a short blend or raw resin, make up the difference in the final mix. This is the ONLY practical way to exclude oxygen from the surface and get a good bond. The oxide layer doesn't bond well, and reforms in seconds after abrading. For most things, I use a slow cure and wet sand with a curing blend, slightly thinned. (how you thin depends on the product). 2mm aluminum sheet tears before the bond peels in shear and peel testing (ASTM D6412).

    Yooo. I've learnt so much from you over the years. Thanks. Routers scare the crap out of me so hate having to re do stuff. Couple of tips that I've learnt that make messups less likely. 1 clamp your work down if possible. If it's moving around during the cut you have Les control. Looks like there was room for a for camping it to the bench in the corners of that aluminium sheet. 2 you are more likely to get a smoother edge finish if your blade is cutting into the edge you want to keep. That first cut was cutting away from the edge you were keeping. But that tip is mainly for materials that are likely to splinter like ply. Sorry to be critical. Love your work.👍

    I had an old tablesaw that was stuck in the "on" position. I used for a day like that. That happened right around the same time i got a kickback with a small piece of wood that struck me in the abdomen. I went and got a nice new tablesaw with lots of safety features after that.

      This comment is gold. I can’t even finish watching this video. I’m nauseous, I can’t focus on anything because everything is moving, but I hear Adam Savage’s voice and that tiny dim light remaining from my childhood turns on and I can’t wait to see what he can teach me. Unfortunately, I can only listen and not see the craftsmanship skills he has developed during his lifetime in hopes of learning something. I wish motion sickness never came into my life. I miss roller coasters and spinning rides.

    I really hope they go back to Adam filming the one day builds himself, the filming in the Outbreak Hazmat cosplay video was swaying left and right and crash zooming all over the place combined with the odd focussing that it made me feel sick and it's not really any better in this video it's still making me feel sea sick from the constant movement zooming in and out for little reasons and odd angles, if they must have someone other than Adam film these then please, please get a tripod or something else to keep the camera still.

      I've been watching odbs for forever and when I noticed he wasn't filming himself I was surprised but not disappointed. I think having someone else film he can focus more on working and not filming and building. So maybe we get less mistakes (or at least see less mistakes). My only hope is that the frequency of the builds doesn't diminish. Three odbs a week is amazing.

    • @NoDakExpress
      @NoDakExpress Před 3 lety +15

      Completely agree. Adam filming himself was very entertaining (including the mistakes - we all make mistakes, seeing the mistakes makes it interesting!). You need only go back to some of the other one day builds that featured other people interviewing him or filming to undsrfatand that the show really, REALLY, works when it’s just him. (As I typed that this video had an abrupt camera zoom mid sentence that nearly gave me an aneurism). Don’t over complicate things, I’ll be less likely to view as it gets more curated. I liked seeing the master doing random crap in his dungeon - and him making little mistakes and determining what was important enough for actually moving the camera. Even the “belt-sander noises” captions that were added in editing were charming.
