The Smallest Pole Margin in F1 over the past 25 years

Sebastian Vettel claimed Red Bull's 10th pole position of the year following an electrifying battle with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
Before that, the smallest pole margin took place during the 1997 European GP where Villeneuve, Schumacher and Frentzen set the exact same time of 1:21:072. Crazy. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
it's like F1 esports where someone could get pole by 0.001 seconds. Crazy talent between Fernando and Sebastian
These are different cars though, it might just be one is actually a whole lot quicker than the other one but the difference in car performance make it looked close.
@@ihsanjayadi88Ferrari is considered the faster car that weekend. Even Webber couldn’t keep up with the midfield Massa during his final run where he screwed up later in the run
That has nothing to do with talent as the cars are different.

Painfully so buddy, Painfully so, what a year close but yet so far.
Legend has he still behind Petrov
Only if there was drs at that time 😌
@@el-gefe8280 This year was before the introduction of the DRS in 2011 just one year earlier, which for racing would be good because 2010 we remember from the fights of the championship remembering the overall results but competitive racing were a few during the year thankfully the season had three things going for it :
The big 3 fighting for everything at the time a part from Felipe Massa in rare ocassion.
Unpredictable Weather basically on every race.
And plenty of reliability issues for some of the cars, DNF without notice, spinales you name it, they had everything back then even wheel to wheel battle I'm the pits before the stop, during and coming out of it.
Ah good times to remember but they weren't perfect
This quali session sums up his whole career 😔
Alonso is such a beast... He fought many battles
ferrari was faster that weekend btw
Ferrari was the fastest car that weekend, as evidenced by Massa finishing third in qualifying and Ferrari going 1-2 the next day.
Alonso sure couldve gotten more wdcs if f1 wasnt so competitive in the 2010’s
@@IIalfreII Racepace Yes.. Qualifying quiet equal.
This makes me sad that i didnt get to experience this era of F1 in its full glory😭
same 🙃
Man I feel you, I was to green on the culture of the sport to appreciate that era like I do now, I was 7 years old that years, just liked the way the cars sound and looked, but never understood a thing, until much later where I finally got into the hole universe and culture behind this beauty of sport called F1
I remember I was about 13 years old and that it was one of the most interesting seasons of F1 I've since I started following it closely since 2003-2004
2010 is one of the best seasons from the last 15 years. 5 drivers (Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Webber) fighting for the championship and they're would be a different race winner every time. Red bull's and Mercedes finance during this turbo hybrid era is one of the saddest things that happened to F1
@@bluestriker256 V8 era was by far the most competitive in F1 history. 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012 were amazing seasons. When it comes down to it, it's between the V10 era and the V8 era for the best in F1 history. Although the V10 era wasn't as competitive (still, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2005 were amazing and close seasons) it did have faster cars, more hp and arguably better sounding engines
Impressive how close Alonso was considering how dominant in qualifying RB rocketship was
Yeah, that's why 2nd and 3rd place are both Ferrari. I knew someone was going to say this
Both of them made a great lap. Webber made a mistake in his final lap of Q3 going wide at turn 1 and had to abandon his lap. I think he would have been 3rd and closer to Seb with a proper lap.
That was in 2011 in 2010 the cars were pretty much equal between RB and Ferrari and Mclaren
@juliushegge4845 correct. All 3 cars were of similar level. The Ferrari F10 had a good front end too. It was quickest car around Hockenheim in 2010. Massa and Alonso showed that in race itself This lap was overrated in my view. Alonso gained a tow from massa asw which gave him a good few tenths advantage. Vettel didn't have this from webber.
Had this lap from alonso been with 2012 ferrari for example, then it would be seriously impressive
What are you talking about? Ferrari is considered the favorites over RB that weekend. Anyone who’s not a Alonso fan knows Ferrari is head and shoulders above everyone else especially during race trim
Before that it was Jerez 1997 Villeneuve Schumacher and Frentzen do the same time. But Villeneuve was on pole because he do this time the first. Schum and frentzen just equal him
also because track evolution, which i think contributed a factor into that rule
Sad what shumi did in race
It's in the description
@@Senny_V oh
Now Hamilton is on pole for the Hungarian GP for just +0.003s
Ferrari was considered the favorites over RB that weekend. Alonso had a massive tow from Massa and still couldn’t beat Vettel on pole. It goes to show how much of a monster Vettel was at qualifying.
Yeah man vettel was best qualifier in that period from 10-13 along with Hamilton. Considering how dominant Ferrari were that weekend this pole from vettel without a tow from webber who had to abort his final run was impressive
@@GM_FtblA Webber was more of a rival to Vettel than Alonso's ever been
Totally agree. Vettel in quali was extremely frustrating to witness as a rival's fan. Still think Alonso not staying left at the exit of the left corner stupidly cost him pole though
@@bombergame8636 I can tell you did not watch F1 during that era
@@bombergame8636 are you new to f1?
Fernando is faster than you…
I miss this F1 years (look of the cars and atmospherical engine)
And the disputes amongst all, what a sight

That celebration, that passion is what you just don't get from RB these days 😢
Vettel is the Michael Schumacher of Redbull. He has the Status.
Redbull is a very passionate team wtf
red bull is passionate but they have no close competition currently. theyre not going to celebrate a cake walk
There's passion in every F1 team. It's just Max and Gp doesn't show emotions on their radio. Which ruined the fun tbh.
Bar the infamous “Fernando is faster than you” message,Alonso for the entirety of the weekend was quick and performances like these sums up his 2010 season especially how crazily consistent he was. Considering how sometimes the Ferrari at certain tracks is like a distant third best car the guy just keeps getting onto the podium or race wins
"Alonso a full half second faster than his teammate wow!" - 2:10
So was Vettel you clown
Alonso has always had this tendency of going to the middle of the track as he ends a quali lap. Doesn't usually matter much but it definitely cost him pole here. Either way, pole battles in that era were incredible, Vettel was a monster in quali
He's keeping the car straight out of the kerb to max out acceleration. It's just a different line.
I know this is irrelevant. But could've Norris landed pole at Silverstone (this weekend) if he used the rest of the track exiting the final corner?
@@xyz1415No way. He is not making up 0.250 in that last corner
Their rivalry was a beautiful thing to see, Alonso Vs Vettel in 2010 and 2012 where a beauty, I got a few tears on me remembering those days and battles specially 2012, what a painful but cheerful year to debate and still a relevant season to this day, the best season of modern day with so much scope for what if scenarios, that era as a hole could've look different in so many levels
@@luvilela12782010 was a better battle because the cars where equal 2012 alonso had to rely on perfect strategies and misfortune from other to get the upper hand of course it was still great but 2010 will always be better for me

This is the F1 we want
Sorry if the editing is a bit "rough". I had to make some cuts to prevent the video from being deleted. I hope you like it anyway !
You can see Vettel using the F-Duct, check this video if you want to see more about it : czcams.com/video/BfUjKZQG_9Y/video.html
Massa half a second slower than Alonso while giving him a tow. Vettel on the other hand no tow from his teammate and over a half a second faster. This was another instant where Seb out drove the car's potential. Up there with his 2013 Singapore pole.
And some people say he is overrated.
I mean, if Vettel was faster than fernando having no tow, the only true thing is that RB was faster in quali as it happened during the whole year excepting Monza. Tow does not matter at Hockenheim tho, only in the seond straight. Apart from that, only means a loss of downforce.
@@MrThedestroy3r Cap. Webber is over half a second slower than Seb and Behind both the Ferrari's. Obviously Seb outperformed the car. Yall will never stop undermining Vettel's extraordinary feats.
@@MrThedestroy3r "Tow does not matter" Have you seen the track at all????? It has massive straights. And there was no drs in 2010. A tow was the only way you could get a straight-line speed advantage apart from the F duct. You're talking out your ass kid.
@@deathbylust700 So you really think that a car which took every pole that year excepting 2 (one of them being clearly faster than the Ferrari at Singapore) was really slower here. Vettel was also half a second faster than Massa.

I was there. At the last corner when they accelerate on Start/Finish. Liuzzi I think had a big crash there but was unhurt. Was a cool weekend with Michael's comeback.
If Alonso took the shortest route to the line rather than extending to the middle of the track, he would've been on pole....
Hungary 2023, Hamilton was on pole, beating Verstappen (p2) by just 0.003s😮
I was listening to Ludovico Einaudi - Experience before this. Saw this on my home feed. Fitting

Questions, why is the small pole margin this one instead of 1997 europe?
Qualifications of 2010 hit different
In the Jerez GP of 1997, three cars were on pole (technically) with the same time. So not the closes in 25 years.
