When does Pokemon Legends Z-A REALLY Take Place?

- Pokemon Legends Z-A is the brand new Pokemon game coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025. With a similar gameplay style to Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA), Pokemon Legends Z-A will be taking place in Lumiose City of the Kalos region within Gen 6 but when exactly? Pokemon Legends Arceus was old fashioned Sinnoh with the Hisui region but Pokemon Legends Z-A seems like it could also be a futuristic Kalos. Get all of my thoughts here!

Are on team past or team future for when Pokemon Legends Z-A takes place? 👀
From what I saw in the teaser I believe we are going to modern Lumiose City and we are going to make it better for both Pokemon and people, basically making it a huge terrarium like the one in the SV DLC but within a city and as we improve it and progress a bigger variety pokemon will appear within the city

Agreed. They should bring back seasons so that different pokemon appear in the city. I'm left scratching my head on how else my favorite Abomasnow will be obtainable. Different weather/season would be a great homage to Gens 5,8, and 9. It atmosphere makes the games more lively and interesting.
I agree and from the snippet it seems trainer battles are a thing. Which further proves it takes place in the future.
7:34 I disagree.. Modern Lumiose city (and Kalos as a whole by extension) already exemplifies a harmonious coexistence between ppl and Pokémon:
- Gogoat Shuttle service
- Furfrou grooming
- Pokémon battles within the city itself, e.g. Prism Tower being a Gym, the restaurants
- Pokémon Showcases (only in the anime canon, but still)
Granted, these are only a small handful of examples. Like there aren't a bajillion Pokémon roaming about in XY's Lumiose unlike the ZA teaser. But they could only show so much on the 3DS.
I mean, look at the key art of Lumiose city for XY! There's a bunch of Pokémon in there hanging around humans
I truly think its still in the past because of the "Legends " name legend usually implies something from the past we can't say the future is a legend since that has yet to be established. But how far into the past ?? maybe a little after PLA as we can see a pokeball being used by a trainer. Maybe in this game we are helping set up the first Pokemon league ?
I'm REALLY hoping it's in the past. Not just because that's what others are saying + the IRL historical parallels (Haussmann rénovation of Paris), but because if it's a more modern or futuristic setting that would negate the need for the modern era XY remake down the road..
It's wishful thinking, but they could introduce some new lore here that could be revisited in the eventual remakes. Like in a Delta Episode sort of way

7:35 This point is made for something that is based off a game that was limited by the hardware it was on and also by the very developer developing it.
Lumiose City in the present day had already been known as the city where the theme of coexistence between people and Pokémon was the focus. The only reason that it wasn't seen that way for some was just because corners were cut just making the very city itself.
Besides that you already have the aspect of being able to use Pokémon to get around the city and so on. So really it's a matter of will GameFreak will be able to pull of that very vibe on the Switch that they couldn't on the 3DS.

Legends Z-A *MUST* take place in the future.
I am on team time travel, moving between past and future where your actions in the past impact the future. But realistically a short time after X and Y like 3 years later and maybe see the past protagonist
Judging by what I've seen from the trailer it doesn't seem as distant past as Legends arceus so I'm guessing a few decades before X and Y either way I'm still hyped!

There’s definitely reasons for either. Though there would need to be a lot more explanations needed if it’s in the future. Like starters, would we have Kalos starters then bc it’s modern day and those would be the starters, and it would kinda require a reason if we have different starters like Arceus did. There would be a lot more work arounds if it’s in the future imo
i think if it stays in one city, maybe it will be a VR Game so people can see everything around and play with the Pokémons.

Will this game be in this summer’s game fest?
Probably not. It has a good chance of showing up again around August for a Pokemon Presents though
This game will obviously take place after the Pokémon war with the ultimate weapon. With the creation of the Kalos region as we know today. So it takes place in the past “Legends” meaning is “ a very old story or set of stories from ancient times, or the stories, not always true, that people tell about a famous event or person “

Google ‘re-‘, because we obviously aren’t developing a city, the city is already developed. What we’re doing is redeveloping the city, to modernize it and improve it.
@@geroshand8623 Kalos was already a city before the war so they are having re-development bringing back to a standard. Get over your futuristic hopes. Legends games will be past events/stories.
They really only touched the surface of what happened in the war. So the game will be set after the war it’s that simple and obvious

Correct, modern times is not ‘the future’, so it’s perfectly reasonable this takes place in the present. We know the Legends of Kalos, except Zygarde. This would be the perfect setting to rediscover the truth in a modern setting, a lost legend.
I think it will be a couple of decades into the future. So we could see characters from the original games but has adults. I personally think that the Legends series of games will be about expanding the lore of various regions by telling new stories. The drawing of Lumious City transitioning into the wire grid was just a creative choice to show how game developers make things. First, they draw its concept on paper, and then they build it up with software. That's all it is. There is no reason for us to go back to the past like we did in Arceus. I don't think it will be super high-tech either. It will be slightly into the future and tell a new story around Zygarde and Mega Evolution. Look at the clothes of the npc characters walking around the city or look at the skyscrapers when the camera spins around Prism Tower. It's plainly obvious GameFreak is doing something completely new. This is a new legend they want to tell. I'm all for it! Give me my Mega Pokemon and some other new designs!
There is one thing that unarguably proves that Legends Z-A takes place in the future : Poké Balls.
Going back to real history, Haussmann's renovation of Paris is used as an argument that the game took place in the past, however Poké Balls were only invented in 1925, and guess when Haussmann's renovation of Paris happened, the 1860s, which is before 1925, so if Legends Z-A really took place in the past, then there wouldn't be Poké Balls in the game, however, we also know that it's more than likely that Legends Z-A will have Poké Balls, so that rules out the past, which means that the only option left is for Legends Z-A to take place in the future, and sure enough, everything checks out, including the existence Poké Balls and the real life history counterpart.
So Legends Z-A must take place in the future.

thats not modern clothing. and handbags... also aren't modern either. kalos would have already existed before the events of legends arceus. its not THAT long ago so to speak.
