  • This is a guide to spotting misrigged three ring release systems on sport parachute assemblies. Keeping your eyes open in the plane, looking at other people, could save a life.

My buddy is now paralyzed because of the first example. Thanks for sharing and pointing out these errors for the new jumpers.

So sorry to hear that. These are the sorts of things I am trying to prevent.

Awesome post...I have been looking for examples of 3 ring mis riggings...just getting back into it after 20 years off.

This is huge. I'm new and I want to know my rig inside and out. Many new AFFs I know have no clue and don't seem to care! Even some of my instructors tell my not to worry about certain safety things just yet. If I'm asking as a student I'm obviously ready to take in the info. Thanks for the channel! Don't just grab some rental gear and jump it. Look it over and ask if you don't know! 3 gear checks and if you're still not sure don't jump until you are!

Totally agree, sort of. :-) I acknowledge that within the AFF program, each DZ has specific information relating to that specific DZ. On the other hand a thirst for knowledge should be fed. That is why I make these segments. I have seen too many people get hurt through ignorance of simple stuff, or even atiitudes that need refining through understanding equipment specifics. Always remember, when you grab rtental gear, you are the pilot and all responsibility goes to you to be safe. While a student, some of this resposibility is progressively passed to you, but once licenced, it is all on you. Same as owning and driving a car, plane or any other vehicle.

@@blueskiesfundays2671 Yes Axis is great. They just need to update just a little with the quality! haha Same with Germain and some of the other old school guys that post. Collin Scott Thomas is the man!

Fast forward. I'm going for a rigger's ticket. I really like knowing I'm 100% responsible for the entire system. I think people just go to a rigger and it's some kind of magic that happens. Learn how to do this yourself and learn from these guys and gals!

@@BurninatorTheTrogdor you refer to Collin Scott Thomas..how is he more knowledgable than Germain's teaching...an honest question...I am all about considering all the info on the subject...great post once again.

@@steveaustin1820 I just finished The Parachute and it's Pilot by Brian. I follow them both. Read everything you can. Old skydivers are old for a reason.

I've done a single tandem jump. Canopy deployed no problem, but at some point during the descent the instructor pointed to our left strap and pointed at these rings and was audibly flustered. When we hit the ground he quickly said that our reserve shoot wouldn't have deployed because these rings were incorrect and disappeared with no further explanation. I have had no idea how these work until now.....this was at "that" jump center in Lodi, CA and about a week after a fatality in '16/'17. Woop woop

To stop a flip over surely a plastic (deformable and disposable) bridle could be added. Think of a double-sided Y keeping the rings apart. Just a thought for future safety for you guys.

1:52 shows 2 different errors, but the audio only mentions one. On the left, per the audio, loop not through grommet. On the right, the grommet is through the loop - under load, the riser would not release on pulling the cutaway.

Good thing since the invention of this, I have seen, heard nobody ever having any issues with this. There are many things that should be tested other than this.

@@lenaf443 Thanks Lena. Glad you are enjoying the bite size chunks. The goal is to make them a single 'mouthful' of information. The ones that are more inspirational are that bit longer. I have started putting them into subject based playlists that will hopefully make them an easier to use resource. Let me know if you have any specific subjects you want covered. While I have a long list, I can always add one more and some are easier to produce than others. Cheers

Aren't there fewer accidents when the canopy is round.
