Ah. I understand her completely. I grew up the fat kid. I lost 60lb as an adult & developed an ED (eating disorder). I struggle with the idea of taking breaks and just relaxing. Restricting my calories to the point of starvation, binging & purging etc. In the throes of my ED I have anxiety doing nothing too. Anything I eat = fat. I will get fat again if I eat & don't work it off.
Logically I know this is not true, but a compulsion in your mind forces it. I really started working on it when I hit rock bottom. I was at the gym and was very close to fainting. I was weight lifting and my vision when blurry & white. I sat down on the ground and later that night found myself reflecting on what it was I am doing that caused that. Looking back it's obvious. But you don't know that when you're 100% in it. I still struggle with the ED. Just this past week I was restricting myself more food again and was feeling the affects of my body once again being worked too hard & maintained too little. Recognizing the symptoms to stop it is important.

Please be careful I fell into similar habits when I was younger I would walk at least 15 miles a day (which I really couldn’t afford to lose the weight) but I didn’t see it that way. I started counting and tracking every calorie I ate and my daily weight (sometimes weighing myself multiple times a day). I got to the point I had no energy and was falling asleep constantly and felt completely drained. I was also dealing with other mental health issues but please please please be careful anyone out there reading this ❤️

I have anorexia and compulsively exercise. I totally get how you can gradually creep up to this. It doesn’t happen overnight, but each day it has to be a little more than the next. I currently exercise the equivalent of a full time job in a week, alongside working more than one actual job. There is no space for anything else and I hate how it consumes everything

According to some studies becoming obsessed with counting (food) might be a natural instinct to humans that kick in when there's too little calories available. And counting of course ensures the eating disorder gets worse, it's a vicious circle. So maybe eating disorders aren't only mental disorders. Maybe also mechanisms and functions of the body on extreme situation (like restricting calories on diet) can lead to an eating disorder even if there's no sign of mental problems in the beginning. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the study, it was on a documentary about a Swedish eating disorder clinic.
