      If she is really disabled there is help for a nursing home through Medicare. For that matter she should be trying to get disability if she really can’t work. There are resources if you are willing to put in effort to find them. But she probably won’t, she seems to mired in her own helplessness.

    • @GoodnightJLH
      @GoodnightJLH Před 4 lety +222

      To get on disability, the primary doctor must be proactive in getting a diagnosis and maximizing function with treatment. Dr Phil reads her medical record and the PCP Nurse Practitioner says that this patient might have EDS because she fulfills some of the criteria. Okay... So why not get her diagnosed? She likely has a combination of physical and mental illness. But she can’t either get better or get on disability unless she has a proactive doctor.

      J. Holan instead of blaming the medical community for not diagnosing this person with a disease and starting the transition to full medical disability should be your first indication that she doesn’t have a disease that qualifies her for medical disability. She is morbidly obese and a parasitic parent who is ruining her daughters life. She probably has depression , main issue is narcissism and laziness.

      Exactly. I have mental health issues, and I'm on Disability for them. But my mother still doesn't understand why it hurts me that she never calls me to see how I'm doing. She says "when do you ever call to check up on me?" I shouldn't have to worry about her when I'm the one on Disability. Narcissistic mothers are the worst. They always feel entitled to play the victim. Children of narcissistic parents are the ones who need help. Not the other way around. If she got divorced 8 years ago why should her daughter support her, and cook for her, and basically be her slave? She chose to be a parent. Now she's manipulating her into being her caretaker. So sad.

I’m still a minor and live with my parents, so they take care of me when I’m in pain. Even when in pain, I try very hard to do things on my own, and if I can’t, I always thank my parents for everything they do for me. Crohn’s sucks. I’m currently on the tail end of a flare up and lost 30 pounds last month in April when it was really bad. I was a little overweight so it wasn’t too bad until I couldn’t move to do basic tasks. I’m currently waiting on my 5th lower intestinal procedure when there’s a specialized surgeon available during this scary Covid 19. My parents never believed I was sick, always said I was so stupid to believe the doctors and throw my money and time off of work away on “elective” procedures (mon was an RN for 45 years btw...) and that I was just being lazy. This is among many reasons of why I don’t talk to my parents anymore. I’m pushing 40 now and I’m constantly wondering if I’ll ever be able to have a normal body and am endlessly looking for solutions. I wonder what my life could have been like if my parents believed that my symptoms were worth looking into at your age. Tell your parents they are wonderful and I love them for me. Tell them they’re doing a great job in supporting you and loving you through your painful ordeal. Tell them that your family is in my thoughts. It’s wonderful to see a supportive and loving unit. I hope something works out for you sooner or later and please stay strong. Stay well CZcams stranger.

      I’ve had Crohn’s disease since I was 7... I’m 18 now and I’ve already had surgery on my small intestine. I know how you feel when you’ll be completely fine then out of nowhere you get this tightening pain like someone is ringing out my intestines. When it hurts bad I stop what I’m doing and just crouch down holding my knees to my chest and eventually it goes away for a couple minutes then comes back. Crohns is the worst! If you haven’t already you should look into trying medical marijuana. It helps me eat and takes away some anxiety I have. I used to weigh 125 and now I weigh 106. I lost all of it in 2 months. It seems like anything I eat upsets my stomach. Anyways keep your head up you’re not alone in this.❤️

I know what it's like to be in pain every day, I know what it's like not to have a diagnosis, because neither did I the first 18 years of my life, but when I learned about EDS I went to a clinical geneticist and they tested and diagnosed me. I didn't google it and just run with it

      There are 13 types of EDS currently recognized. For 12 of them, there are DNA tests. One of the types is diagnosed clinically.
      Shame on her Nurse Practitioner! A good clinician does what is necessary. Don’t just mention that the patient might have something! Figure out what is wrong physically and what is wrong mentally with your patient!
      An EDS specialist is a Geneticist. Typical waiting lists to get in are more than 2 years. There are few Geneticists in the USA. It’s common that a patient in need of a Geneticist simply cannot see one in the USA because their health insurance won’t cover it. And EDS workup costs several thousand dollars.

      She has a Nurse Practitioner who says “maybe” she has Ehlers-Danlos and that she meets several criteria. Okay... So why doesn’t that NP figure out what is wrong and how to maximize this woman’s functional level?
      Does she have EDS? Which type? Does she have associated POTS and MCAS that keep her in bed for days? Maybe this issue is mostly mental. Likely it’s a combination of physical pain issues and the mental depression that often accompanies such situations. Maybe she has an autoimmune disorder. Maybe she has a personality disorder.
      To get disability, her PCP needs to give her a diagnosis and an affidavit of disability. Instead, her PCP speculates on what she might have but does nothing to help her. Sad.
      I hope she gets the help she needs but I’m concerned because Dr Phil has no medical training.
      It usually takes several years for people like her to get on disability. I went through this process with a friend and it was horrible. My friend had a Masters in Healthcare administration but she went without income for 7 years until she finally got on disability. She had to hire an attorney and had to pay out of pocket for medical and psychiatric evaluations that her HMO wouldn’t cover.
      The disability process in the USA is horrible. And don’t even get me started on the “Ticket to Work” program to get off disability. That’s a total cluster f*** too.

      Exactly. And if she does have EDS she needs to be more active
      ..not less
      My 4 year old was diagnosed with it back in January. Right before her 4th birthday. She is a more severe case and that's why she was diagnosed so young. Her nuerologiist felt she had a muscular dystrophy at first but a year of doing every genetic test they have including sequencing her entire genome led us to the hEDS diagnosis.
      I had never heard of it. Didn't know a thing about it but I knew she was extremely hypermobile in every single joint. I knew she had other diagnosis that I assumed were connected to whatever condition she has that we just didn't know at the time.
      She has Dysautanomia (diagnosed at 18 months), slow motility and is gtube fed since 14 months old, nueropathy confirmed at 3 but showed sings from just 2yo, essential tremors started back at 3.5yo, extremely soft skin (had comments since her first week in the NICU about that), she scars very differently then others which I learned the day she was diagnosed by the connective tissue specialist that it's classic for hEDS to scar this way. She has hyptonia...also common in this.
      She has almost everything that most adults with hEDS have. Just seems to be having symptoms a lot younger then most.
      She's in physcial therapy twice a week and will be for a very long time. She will never be able to not doing either therapy or have a personal trainer for strength trianing to keep her core strong and her muscles toned. This will help her with her joints stability.
      She also does aquatic therapy twice a week. Occupational therapy once a week.
      The stronger and more active she is the better off she will be.
      If this mom truly had hEDS she should be in PT. Should be trying to lose some weight to help her joints and should be seeing the right specialists for it.

    • @clarkjc44355
      @clarkjc44355 Před 3 lety

      @@oliviad3326 I don't know why anyone would ever want to fake this condition.
      Like if the doctor is trained properly then they will know if u have it or not and her pulling her thumb back to show the hypermobility like she did in the video does nothing for me. Over half of my nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, includes on my mom's side can do that lol. They are hypermobile but they do not have ehlees Danlos Syndrome. They aren't hypermobile in every single joint not do they have the other conditions associated with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome it's weird to fake this. Really weird
      I see how horrible it is for my 4yo. I would never want to fake it or portray it that my daughter had this if she didn't. Pain daily is nothing to lie or joke about and for those who do have it and for those who have it severely and cannot function most days...it's a slap in the face.

    I had a dear friend who actually had Ehlers Danlos syndrome, i took care of her during the last 6 months of her life, but that brave beautiful woman worked every day all of her adult life up until her Aorta blew apart (dissected) and she had a massive brain bleed which caused her to become very disabled. All related to her ED. Before that she had had multiple open heart surgeries and repairs to her Abdominal Aorta, over 25 years, and she worked full time all through it. She was a Savage, my beautiful friend. I've known and cared for a few ED patients with ED and related connective tissue disorders over my 30 years in health care. Actually my grandmother had Marfans syndrome which is in the same family. They were all working. Both my friend and my grandmother died from Aortic dissection at 52 years old. Both worked almost until the end of their lives.

      I agree. The mother’s behavior is WAY out of line. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have some sort of physical pain disorder. I highly suspect that this woman has both physical and mental illness. She needs proactive doctors to diagnose her, maximize her level of function and determine if she can work or get her onto SSI (typically about $780 per month) and other social programs.
      She likely has Medicaid. She certainly qualifies for it. The problem with having Medicaid is that most doctors won’t accept it so it’s very hard to find specialty care.

I recognize that everyone has a different experience with chronic pain... but that is never an excuse to treat others poorly. I don't know a single person with chronic pain who is content with being reliant on others. If anything I (and many others I know) tend to over-exert ourselves before asking for help because the last thing we want is to be a burden.
