You can say that again bro.. I just love this clip. Jordan is so fluent in his talk amd logic.
As I watched this I realized that "an age" is an experience that indeed shows and feels. Here Jordan looks so much older than later and he sounds older and he walks as if he was. And I recalled my own memories of feeling old and looking half dead (believe me..) and compared it to today's feeling. Just today I looked myself in the mirror and thought how young I looked and felt.
So the next guestion is: what makes us older in our minds? To me it was things I regreted doing, low self-worth and untrue assumptions about people around me. Truth sets you free to the degree you find it from yourself.
With the help of youtube I have managed to learn about Peterson and Jung's work and I'm ever so grateful. Because of them I got some hold of this puzzle of life.

I fail to see how his exposed points, from his published ideas, have become adapted by the right (if in fact they have) nor, why they are so dejected by left (as they seem to be)? Unless...and I may have answered my on proposition...the fact that he is open to the existence of a Greater (collective consciousness, singular intelligence, god, etc.) whereas the left is entrenched in their post-modern, materialistic, everything-is-a-construct paradigm, simply disturbs their agenda.

That opening line "You learn through voluntary contact with that which frightens or disgusts you" is pure gold. I decided to do that in the beginning of this year 2019 and my life and been turned around radically for the positive. I'm stronger, clearer, calmer (Thank goodness!! The relief!) and miles more productive. And the beautiful thing is, I can only see this getting better as I take a brave step each day. Thank you Jordan.
I encourage anyone, if you're stuck in a rut. Just do it...bit by bit. I know it's frightening, but it's the ONLY way to transform into the person you deep down desire to be. The rusty and restless base metal that dwells deep in you WANTS contact with your fears (without aversion) because in doing so, it will cause an irreversible alchemical change into deeply felt, satisfying alchemical gold.

Watching Petersons talks I realised that searching for truth in a professional environment is very controversial and not a commonly accepted thing to do. I think it's both something that will generate incredible advancements in industries, and also face a lot of neglect until proven useful, huh..

There real reason why there are haters of this man is simply this: He poses all the questions of looking deep into our true self, true nature, the pure substance of our existence. People don’t want to truly look at their lives and rather project it externally and not internally. I absolutely love Jordan Peterson for having a direct approach in how he addresses the issues right at the root. I read something somewhere . I don’t remember who said it, but definitely extrapolated the same message being conveyed in much of Jordan’s work. “Everyone wants to be somebody. No one wants to grow” Thanks have great day. +leadslinger49 said: "Been cleaning my house for a long time now. All I seem to do is find more dirt."
I've heard it said, by some, that turning inward will always produce more distress, more confusion, or in this case more filth. The alternative they offered was to look upward. But also, if that's not your speed, we can look outward, and by volunteering and helping others, we release a rush of endorphins so great as to match drug use, but with no side effects!

    • @nigelft
      @nigelft Před 4 lety +4

I take a third approach, having spent the last year, or so, literally clearing out my place ...
True, the more you tidy, the more filth, dust, and grime you will find ... but, unless you leave it, the more you sweep up, and clean away, conversely, the less dirt will be left behind.
Yes, to start with it does feel like you're chasing your own tail, and it seems endless ...
... but the more you clean, and, above all, keep clean, you reach a tipping point when you discover there is very little dirt left ...
I have been through 'it gets worse before it gets better', and it is damn hard. It is so easy, when faced with, in my case, psychologically, a sheer mountain of dirt to shift.
But then I'm reminded of a moment: being only 5'2", and 120lbs soaking wet despite being in my late 20's, I was sent in to a flue tube that was narrow, and just slightly taller than me, to clean out near a century, or more, ash, that was so compacted, and wet, that using even a small shovel I had, was hopeless. Three feet thick, and at least two-three yards long, I had no idea how to begin. So, using the largest brick trowel I could find, I began carving out this stuff, like peat: four towel's worth per bucket; four buckets per wheel barrow, which I had to haul, by myself to the dumpster. And I kept at it ...
As I was only volunteering ~9hrs per week, it took me two weeks (so ~20hrs all told) to get to the point this thing was swept clean. I left it another week so all the stuff still sticking to walls could dry, and fall off; so another quick sweep with a soft brush ... and it was done ...
There is now a light fixed to its ceiling so vistors can look inside what a furnace flue tube to a -- long demolished -- chimney, and fed by dozens of boilers, looks like.
But to me, every time I look into that hole, I feel a sense of satisfaction, if not pride: I did that ...
Yes, I was surrounded by dirt up to well above my ankles (thank God that a friend bought me a pair of steel toe-cap, with steel insoles, wellington boots; not easy to find for my small feet ...), and I felt a total sense of 'where the hell do I even begin' ...
But giving into hoplessness wasn't going to clean that pit out. I had to find a way.
So -- to wrap up this Ted Talk -- you may find yourself constantly finding dirt ...
... but the key, which I think Churchill may well have said, is persistence, perseverance, patience, and endurance; or, less prosaically, never stop fighting until the fighting is done ...
So, keep sweeping that dirt away, until there is none left ...
Thank you for listening, and feel free to leave a tip as you go ...
... and no, leaving notes like "when hunting for 'gators, don't use your legs as bait" is not what I mean ...

This video really helped me understand what I was going through. After years of reading history, understanding different philosophies, reading Terrence McKenna :), traveling the world, etc. I swam through the collective unconscious just by having more experiences. But it wasn't till i visited a third world country did i find and integrate my surprising archetype. Before my journey, I blindly believed that the united states wasn't great at all, in fact, i rarely stood up for the national anthem. But during my travels I came to the surprising realization of how important it is to be an actual American. To protect and stand up for freedom. And how much we take for granted our God given rights. In Sterquiliniis Invenitur.

I agree that experiencing horror and/or pain is often the price of access to new or corrective knowledge, but one has to somehow overcome one's undesirable involuntary reactions to same, to fully benefit from the new or corrective knowledge and use it in a constructive rather destructive way. For example, if you go through extensive training and a career in the military, but also end up with PTSD for the rest of your life, your benefit from such experiences and training will be severely limited by newly acquired disabilities.
