I listened to a speech from him like this (probably not the same one) at the end of 2019. Sure, I pretty much set my goal to about 10-15 send resumés and letters but only managed to send about 3 at the beginning of the next year in 2020. It was the best I could do at that point. I was pretty down and out before that. I got the best paying job of the three though and about a year after that I got promoted to an even better position. I can't even say I put all my effort in to this throughout my work but I was being ethical as possible as I could. This shit just worked like a charm for me.

I think the fact that Jordan encourages us to give it our all at least for a year is really encouraging. The very cool thing that Jordan doesn't mention is that if you apply yourself to your job, you can get a lot better, and the more skilled you get in your job, the more passion you will gain making it much easier to enjoy applying yourself up and above what is usually expected. And it is so easy once you realize that 90% of your colleagues' attitude is "If you give me a raise I will do it".

10% more effort for 40% more money is accurate. I have had only one employee in 200 that really focused on learning everything they could. Unlike much older employees, he is retiring with two houses, no debt, massive amounts of useful skills at age 35 and I will hire him as long as he wants to work. Every other employee has fought learning and thought as little as possible about innovating the company or their skills. I would love to pay any of them more and even offer bonuses for study. A lot of people do as little as is absolutely required to get by, which means there is no basis for more responsibility that pays more.

Gotta remember that. If you can't think of or find anything better, don't quit yet.
JBP is a master of reminding us certain alternatives. From learning to be afraid of the right things, thinking about whether there's worse, and today, reminding us that if there's nothing better yet, don't quit.

    • @frankyu6984
      @frankyu6984 Před 10 měsíci

It sounds very rational, right? The problem with not quitting your job is that it greatly increases the probability that you won't look for another one or at least not as soon. Quitting your job will also produce significant positive changes to your mind which can steer you in a better direction. It's a hard sell, I know. In 2015, I quit my job with no plan or any traditionally trained skill with $80,000 CAD in savings at 35 years of age. I walked away with one uncompromising promise: I would never be miserable at a full-time job again. Not very Jordan Petersonish, I know. After some thought, I began investing my money in the stock market. Within a few years I did very well, much better than I would have if I stayed at my job and with 1% of the physical effort. Everyone that was terminated from my former job ended up finding something better or at least comparable. I suppose if you can accomplish finding something better without quitting first then it's fine. But at some point, you do have to make a move even if it's uncomfortable and seems illogical. Life doesn't always operate best in a straight and seemingly logical process.

I can confirm, if you throw in more hours than you're expected, you will progress far faster than those who don't. 2 things happen, you get more done because the commitment means your naturally more efficient and you learn more, which is self-reciprocating. You also get more hours doing whatever you want or need to do at work. Which bear in mind, most people have a baseline of hours which goes into just turning the wheel, which isn't really valuable but needs to be done all the same, that time you add on... directly goes in to you productive time. So people will see you get more done. Hard bit is making sure you're not exploited, to that i say, do it on your terms.

My grandmother wasn't allowed to work after marrying. She wasn't allowed to get a mortgage. She couldn't use contraception because it was illegal. My grandfather could rape her without being prosecuted, because marital rape wasn't recognised. He could hit her and cheat on her and she couldn't divorce him because divorce wasn't legal (until the mid-1990s). He could have her committed to a mental hospital on his say-so alone, and she had no reciprocal power.
She was from a Western country, and it only legalised abortion in the last 5 years, even in cases of rape.
This is a country in which women and girls were locked up in 'Magdelein Laundries' to do unpaid domestic work, if their parents (read: fathers) thought they might be 'trouble'. Being 'trouble' sometimes meant 'being raped' - yes, they locked up rape VICTIMS, rather than perpetrators. These girls and women they were abused by nuns and priests and sometimes never freed.
ALL of these laws, this ENTIRE system was created by MEN, and they clearly placed women below them. When MEN make rules to benefit themselves and disadvantage women, THAT IS A PATRIARCHY. It's taking this Western country I speak of DECADES to dismantle these patriarchal structures and rules and there are remnants of it in other countries too, even if you're too ignorant of history to see it yourself.
Mysogenistic culture doesn't just disappear overnight. Human rights are always vulnerable to abuse, and those who are stronger will always be a threat to those who are weak. It really doesn't take much for society to descend into authoritarianism or totalitarianism, and those who are more physically vulnerable will always fare worst off - just look at Afghanistan today, where girls are forbidden to attend school, or Saudi Arabia, where women must have a male 'guardian', even if that means a son controlling his mother - the woman who gave him life, at the cost of tremendous pain to herself!
Right-wingers are too quick to ignore and even dismiss, the thousands of years of abuse that men have inflicted on women, treating them as property and subservient and in many cases, worse than they treat animals. They don't like feminists, because feminists remember, and they want to make sure it stops.
As for women 'mentally imprisoning themselves', as you claim, Peterson certainly exacerbates that, but telling women that if they haven't had kids by 30, they're doomed to misery. Not only do plenty of women have children in their 30s and 40s, but plenty of women are miserable in motherhood and happier single. If my mother had taken his message to heart, she would've given up and not met my father or had me. Peterson is far too traditional to be sensible - he has a very narrow definition of what peoole should do to 'do life rignt'. Some of his speeches will leave most people listening without hope.

      @@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559 Afghanistan?, Your grandmother?
My goodness... This is what is wrong with women today and it's all part of you enslaving yourselves. I'm 90% sure you don't live in Afghanistan or Iraq but you choose to take the burden of the 10% of women actually going through this instead of using the opportunities that YOU have right now in your country. You said your grandmother (*insert complaint here*) , well newsflash , the world wasn't always this good. Life expectancy for men was below 40. My grandfather worked in the Concentration camps and had his limbs cut off but today I have friends, colleagues and business partners who are Nazi's. From what I can see , if you were in my shoes, you wouldn't have accepted any offer from them because they are Nazi's and "oppressed" your ancestors. That's silly
Look, I know women have been through alot of shit IN THE PAST.
REMEMBER IT WAS IN THE PAST.
The percentage of women who are actually oppressed in this world are far less than the media portrays.
What really pisses me off is when women from first world countries like america don't use the opportunities they have to actually help their lives and other "oppressed" women. Instead they complain about women living in the countries that you mentioned. Do you think those women in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan would complain if they actually has the opportunity that you have. Stop complaining about things you have absolutely no control over and focus on bettering yourself to the point that you have someone control over it

In Australia getting a payrise for doing more work is rare and even if you do make more on a salary the government just taxes you more.

If you enjoy challenging ideas and if masculinity and mastery are topics that interest you, I invite you to explore the videos I share on the Mastery Order Channel.
Challenge yourself with some ideas about manhood, explore your masculine potential and become the kind of man you would admire and look up to.
We can only better ourselves together, as men among men, so I invite you to use what I share and, of course, share your own opinions so that others can benefit from them as well.
Looking forward to your points of view.
      All the best to you!

I've always believed that you should find another job before you leave the one you're at. Always do the best you can wherever you're at, but also try to move while you have the stability and income you're currently living with. It makes it a lot easier to concentrate on your goals when you don't have the additional struggle of no money at all. Just my 2 cents. Thanks Dr Peterson 👍

I have had the same issue as well ( wayy better when doing a dopamine detox) . Your mind finds it difficult to focus. It could be ADHD or just that our minds have so many tabs open in the brain. Apps like tik tok and insta have ruined the brains attention span. our brains are used to getting dopamine hits within a short duration or if not just swipes away. when you are watching a long video, your brain does not get the dopamine asap hence wanders off.

I so admired Dr Jirdan Peterson because he is nit talking Intellectually but Emotionally and Spiritually. You cannot lift someone if you haven't been on the lower ground. Dr Peterson has alot of experience of difficulties and challenges. And that is why he can relate to those experiences. With his clinician Psychological and Psychiatrical knowledge. It made alot more sense because it is evidently factual and the rest True-to-Life experience. I will Pray for you and your family Dr Jirdan Peterson. I really admired and commend you for what you are doing. You are influencing, inspiring, and impacting globally. May GOD BLESS you.

i can really relate to what dr. jordan is saying, i see it happening all around me. many businesses/ startups in india are failing because of corruption and politics. they focus more on revenue and forget ethics, they forget that the customer is the most valuable asset they have. they take the consumers for granted and when consumers realize it, they boycott them which leads to their downfall. people are smart, you cannot fool them, maybe for a while but once they become aware, they will make you pay for it.

My problem is that I tend to overwork myself at jobs. I’ll be there up to a year, and I find that no one seems to care. I’m extremely disagreeable, but I’m generally nice to people. So I’m unsure of what to do. I’ve made moves. Nothing seems to work thus far. I also tend to blame myself most of the time. It gets to me..

We cant ALL rise to the top, the trick is to be happy and functional with what you have, and what is reasonable to aspire to. We need to expand a happy and succesful middle class - the smaller the middle class is, the greater inequality there is, and the bigger the gap between the rich and poor becomes. There is nothing wrong with living an average life, middle management, foreman, ganger or sergeant - 2 or more law abiding kids + extended family, 2 cars, one holiday a year, which is really appreciated and sit back, rock on, and hope to retire in health, and maybe some grandchildren will help you sweep up the autumn leaves. Its enough, a life well lived.
