switched my 2 subarus for a new leaf, never going back to combustion. Faster than most other normal cars, incredibly smooth to drive, heats up in 2 minutes in the winter, no maintenance and no bad conscience when doing quick errands.
The heating up quickly in the winter thing is something no one talks about, but is a huge bonus, especially if you have a short commute to work. Most combustion cars won’t even completely warm up by the time I get to work 😂
And you can actually have it preheat while plugged in. Most all EVs you can set a time that you leave for work and they will bring the cabin to temp while on the charger so you don't have to use battery. So they have zero wait time in that situation.
@@sternumboy1
Same applies to ICE cars, electric or fuel block (and cabin) heater. And people should use block heaters for comfort and lower emissions, but they don't (prob coz people are lazy).
Every single time they shift gears it literally seems like the electric vehicle becomes an after image just BLURRING forward with the smooth torque curve uninterrupted by shifting gears because its one speed
No boys! On the contrary, EVs are not boring at all! I truly enjoyed all of your EV videos, including the road trips and all that good stuff. Give us as many EV tests as possible!
I wonder how much quicker the Mini GP would be down at sea level?
Great jobs guys. Love the SE blowing the GP doors off. My next car will be an EV...maybe the SE.
We just bought a mini se and love it. We’ve had a countryman s 6 speed and loved it too. This may be the best car we’ve ever had. Now if we could get more infrastructure built our range would never be an issue.
BEVs are not boring. Everything about them is exciting, right now. We haven’t seen enough range testing, and I can’t wait for the Ionic 5’s trip to Loveland Pass.
Cant live without my morning manscape add. 🙄
BALLS, BALLS, BALLS!!! 7 DIFFERENT TESTICLE PRODUCTS, ALL WITH BALL REFERENCES IN THE NAME!
The gas Mini would have done a little better at lower altitude but that just shows another advantage of the electrics that get to maintain full power at high elevation. TFLs real world testing on less than ideal road surfaces is very informative.
Its very rare for a turbo charged engine to lose power at altitude as it will always try to attain the specified amount of boost. If its setup for 20psi, its going to try and supply that pressure regardless of the altitude. If it cannot, it means the turbo is undersized.
@@Stuka87 Yes, in an engine where turbo spool up time is not much concern that can be achieved within limits. But a typical automotive engine like in the mini has a small turbo sized for quick spool up. They are designed for efficiency and extra power. They do better than normally aspirated engines at higher altitudes but they still lose power since their turbos are not sized for altitude compensation like on an aircraft engine.
Nah it’s a shitty car
Kona is so hard to launch. It just roasts the tires (at least the 2021 does). If you punch it while rolling, it still spins the tires.
I've noticed in the past that slower vehicles can barely reach 60 mph on your drag strip, how long is your drag strip? it appears to be around 500 feet.
It's part of a small road course i believe.
I don't think they have any real drag strips around.
straightaway is around 750'
That’s why they go by 0-60 times.
I really love that electric Mini! Tech that is still cool PLUS a warranty that is useable unlike a Tesla.
9:45 and actually a base model 3 (the closest one) would actually be right up next to the leaf in acceleration. despite $10k gap in price and comparable range.
Considering the BMW i3 has the same basic power train as the Mini Electric, I think that's the car you should be drag racing... What happened to the two i3's you had?
Definitely needed a sr+ (base) model 3
Dang that nissan leaf did better than I thought with 40 less torque than the Kona.
Nathan, how does a spray tone balls?
There are three guarantees in life:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Andre shouting an over the top WHAAAAT?! when he's losing a drag race.
True that!
Well not really because the taxes cannot be paid if you’re dead 😂
@@Kimbrough87 there's estate taxes.....so yes you certainly can pay taxes when you're dead.
@@sternumboy1 not when you dead 🤣
A new drinking game idea every time Andre says wideo we take a shot of wodka lol keep up the good work love the videos
I am pumped for the day when the Mustang Mach E Shelby, Tesla S Plaid, and some other sick electric car have the same mashup. Not that the choices today were lame, but electric cars with out of this world performance will be awesome when y'all pit them against each other.
You should have used a 2019 Leaf Plus S+. The 2022 was detuned a bit.
Would like to see a Mini vs Bolt EV race. Bolt and Kona use the same batteries, but the Bolt is a bit more sporty.
I’m sure the Bolt could smoke it. In fact the Bolt might be able to smoke them all without ever leaving it’s parking spot.
Elevators on wheels.
I have a Leaf Nismo, I understand that these have been "suped up" using software tweeks and suspension is more like racing suspension. My car beats everything off the line (that I have tried) including some motorbikes. It sticks to the road like glue and can really pull some "G's" during cornering. EV's are definately not boring! I would like to see you guys race a Nismo version of the Leaf. I think it would definitely give the others a run for their money, and would totally kick your ICE car's ass!
TFL should buy a 2nd gen volt to review.
Electric mini's front end looks like a cat fish swallowing something
Newer Mini GP is Auto only, kind of harsh to use a Manual GP. The Auto version would of been a good competition.
I have a 2023 Leaf, it's amazing to drive it
That Mini GP needs its engine looked at, those time are nearly 2 seconds slower than they should be 🤷🏻♂️
The GP2 is broken lmao. Should be much faster
OMG I WANT THAT HOODIE ROMAN!!
When the Hyundai broke traction ...you can see right when the traction control kicked in .. that's when the mini pulled away .. I want a rematch ..😇😇😇
with proper tires the kona would spank the mini. i gained a full second 0-60 just by switching to better tires and on a quarter mile it's behind a model 3 SR+ by 10 feet
The mini is definitely the more "sporty" out of that line up
Nissan leaf is 40 or 62kw?
Can’t believe he said the mini was supercharged..
Also looked up 0-60 of the gp, manufacturer says 5.9 should be faster then all of the electric vehicles
“i’m gonna dispense some whoopin”
Actual 0-60 with proper tires and clean tarmac is 4.7 seconds. The real question is not drag. It's short track having to twist turn and brake that heavy battery pack.
Aw man, I thought Nathan was going to be wearing the briefs like Chase did. :D
If you live on the coast or low altitude the gas car could be a better option. Maybe 🤔
Always be against Andre..lol
Comments reflect channels. I don't think Evs are boring and I comment all the time. I think they're way more exciting than ice vehicles, But sometimes when I comment the folks at TFL don't seem like they agree.
Younknow what is stranger? It's truck owners. 92% never use the bed of the vehicle. 83% never tow anything! What really is crazy is nut jobs that paid up to $91,000 for a $50,000 truck.
I feel like electric cars should speak when they back up and say " I'm an electric car backing up" cause I'm not sure some wierd little tune is going to catch my attention. It would be embarrassing as well, and I feel like electric car drivers need to be humbled a bit
You should have BOLT EV probably would beat them all!
Gee, I don’t see a Tesla Model S Plaid being raced here!
About time
@khronosfateless my comment was too quick for them to get to saying it.
These cars people can actually afford.
@@sternumboy1 a Tesla Model 3 is also affordable and can still beat these things and has an extensive Tesla Supercharger Network so these are car you can find working charger for!
GRABBING MY WEED... AND COFFEE.... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
LOL Roman still thinks Oil comes from the Dinosaurs. Such a marketing trick to make kids think its so bad for dinos!
Interesting how it's thought bodies that are 85% water turn into gas and oil over time. Sounds as reasonable as invisible sky friends.
Wow, are you really so far down the rabbit hole that you don’t even get a silly joke?
I'm old. I used to have some Sinclair Oil toy dinos. You got it backwards. The dino marketing was very pro oil usage. It had nothing to do with trying to make us feel sorry for dinosaurs lol.
@@TFLcar I know it was a joke. But the way people are so gullible these days is unreal. Also in the rabbit is the only place to be. lol
Electric car drag race😯
2 years ago: "Can you get a Tesla for 40k? You cannot!"
2023 Elon Musk: "Hold my drink"
The cat stretched out n hit the like button this morning..he watched the race till the end n went bck to bed🤣😆😅
I have lost most of my hearing, what was the question?
HUH?
I only like electric cars because they are fast. With that said, I do not find them boring, but an ICE, car has more soul
Damn the paint swirls on the mini GP made me feel bad for it.
Volvo would rule the day.
Xc40 recharge ftw
Andre's fake regret just kills the whole video. Nobody wants to see that
The "electric cars are boring/expensive/generic" crowd is salty about getting their rumblebuckets left behind at stoplights.
I was signing the paperwork on my EV when the people filling plastic bags with gasoline went viral. No regrets.
I think a lot of them are just glass half empty viewpoint people. The thoughts like efficient, low maintenance, quiet, and convenient to charge at home just don't occur to them.
@@jimmyjames8736 astute observation.
There is only one acceptable backup noise for BEVs. It's a very particular song by Ludacris
the Leaf is such an ugly car it's almost a crime against humanity... just imagine how many more they might have sold if it wasn't so insanely horrific to look at.
Very boring. Where is the sound of the roaring engines?
Time to put a grove in the middle of the track, a wired controller to the stands, and call it slot car racing. Boring, no noise.
i dont usually watch electric expensive nonsense drag racing no one cares of these.. Thats an expensive ticket!! And costly for insurance purposes puts them in a higher insurer bracket. Secondly for my commute is forty five miles to work. These care are too expensive for that and would need heater on all the way too and a radio on. And i love top travel and i never see electric vehcles haul alot of people and stuff long distances!1 So too me itll never happen no way people need gas vehicles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tried to bring that shyte into the UK several times but luckily we've seen it off, we have corners don't you now?
Take them around the track and watch those heavy ass electrics lose
You know what would be more informational. Why not drive these cars around a city for a day to see how long a battery would last doing normal things in a day.
The one question I want to see answer is holiday do in the cold why don't you guys do a video somewhere up north in the snow and show me how those electric cars do how they do in the morning to their doors free to they have problems going and they have problems with the snow make videos like that and then show me how good these cars are in all weather electric cars in pretty good weather
If you can't "Rev It Up" I don't want it
Yeah, but I'll wave to you when you are on the side of the road with no way to "charge". If I run out of gas, I get a can and I'm back on the road in no time. And, it takes me three minutes to fill my tank. How many minutes to fill yours (electric)? Electric cars may be the future, but for realists, they are the distant future. That is if you want to be certain you're going to get where you're going.
The leaf and Kona have over 200 miles of range. Even the mini at 115 is well over what most people drive in a day.
Sure if you drive long distances multiple times a month this isn't for you but most people never drive over 100 miles in a day and even people who do may only do it a couple times a year.
Did you not see the video where they drove the mini SE home?
@@sternumboy1 I'm sorry, Andrew, but I don't want to be concerned that I need to go see a sick relative in a hospital that lives 300 miles away only to realize I forgot to charge my car. Face it, the technology isn't hear yet. Ending fossil fuels right now is only going to exacerbate the pain everyone is feeling right now. It will get so much worse. We're at least 30 years from the technology to do this correctly. Fossil fuels need to be phased out, but only when the electric car industry is ready to replace it with an economical, reliable substitute. The majority of people can't afford to spend $40k on a car that may or may not get them to where they need to go. And, surely, raising gas prices isn't going to improve their situation any. And then to sit and listen to the rich of this country preach how they love their Teslas??? Makes me want to puke. The self-proclaimed intellectuals of this country need to retake economics 101. I think many of them slept through that class.
@@ChristopherIsIT Nobody is saying we're going to drop fossil fuel today. There's nowhere near the manufacturing capacity to make every new vehicle sold an ev. In another 15 years maybe. Then you'll still have the hundreds of millions of existing used vehicles.
We are you drag racing these EV? These are not very popular vehicles nor designed for any real performance. They’re also overpriced for their size category unless you buy them used.
Still boring cars
bro drive a few EVs
I drove a few ev. They were boring all they have is quick acceleration but then nothing after that get them on interstate and ya the beat a gas at acceleration but then the gas passes them while still digging quick from one light to the other is not impressive to me plus engines have 100s plus of moving parts that make everything work no one appreciate the craftsman ship of a gas engine they think they are saving the planet but they aren’t here in Iowa we have some of the cleanest fuel compared to other states I will stick with my 400 plus miles without needing fuel or my diesel with 700 miles
When EVs can get close to 800 miles in a tank like what my truck can get, than ill give EVs a look. Right now the F150 lighting is a good start.
@@Sport-wg2tv amen brother. I believe ev are for city but here in the country we have no use for them
@@spookysage5295 I agree
Let's put a 8yr old car with problems(check engine light on all day) against brand new electric cars and then claim they were faster because they're electric, guess what else is faster than that gp, the new gas powered gp, but is the new gp faster than the evs? We don't know because you handicap all your comparisons to push the agenda
If the gp2 wasn't broken it would win these races. I'm not hating on the electric cars by the way.
Lmao y'all always need there to be an "agenda" instead of accepting that technological advancement is generally a good thing
They're all equally embarrassing 😂
Now take the gasoline gp and the other cars to race around the track for fifteen laps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ill beet a thousand dollars with air conditioner on and radio on and windows down. I wonder who would win . Gas powered baby, lets be realistic. electric cars are just for short commutes and not much else. they are sooo uselss and not practical. And making/manufacturing them is extremely a harm to people and environment!!!!!!!!!!!! research people u all would be shocked!!!!
