Awesome to see your findings brought to life.
Maybe the white board doesn't fit in the bed of the cyber truck? 😊
You need to drop a v8 into that white board and put a respectable 1/4 mile in 😂
Why didn't you use launch control in the Cybertruck?

Ikr...? go figure...
As MT says, pretty good marketing though isn’t it? :-)
A Tesla engineer on Twitter said they never actually tried in on a full 1/4 track. That they simulated it.
Porshe implies that you will be handsome and successful with their cars. I don't think is a lie, it's called marketing. It does not need to be true, it only needs to be possible.
@@nyambe It's a lie if they're stating it as a fact. No one would mind if Tesla said the Cybertruck were ridiculously fast - even the biggest Tesla haters can't deny that it's fast. Saying it's "faster than the 911 while towing a 911 in the quarter mile" is objectively wrong.
LOL.. colliding with Jason's whiteboard.. priceless 😆
Just as I was reading this comment I got to that moment in the video. Spooky.

Here from engineeringexplained. Thank you both for such a fun test!
Me too :)) Yea this is awesome.
I’m actually a Porsche fan, but I got to admit it’s impressive that the race was this close while the truck was towing another car!
Electric version of "towing drags".
Some of the diesel trucks put down some impressive times while hauling a bobcat or heavy trailer.
Very impressive either way.
The difference is the Porsche is still in one piece. The Tesla had a body panel fall off a couple of days later and then had to go in for a recall.
To me, it's not that impressive once one understands how the electric car works. Most people are caught up with 1/4 mile times, and fast acceleration. All around performance is what matters to a good group of people. Porsche is a perfect example.
Who cares about drag race? It's the only thing that EVs have against the ICE car's so it's being presented as something important. Why don't they race on the track to see who does the fastest lap? Why don't they talk about driving experience? I would never pick a Tesla over the Porsche.
@@Horvatinjo1983lol. Go watch any porsche video or basically 90% of all car racing vids on youtube, its alll drag racing. Porsche knows drag racing times are what sells cars, so they made their cars fast in acceleration. And all i see are porsche fans creaming their pants over how fast the 911 turbo S was in a 1/4 mile. Then when another car beats it, then its suddenly not important.
I think its hilarious when someone loses a drag race and then says, well my car handles better. Thats like losing in basketball, then saying, well im a better soccer player.
OMG, Elon lied. This has never happened before. Sec, ill get into my robot taxi that makes me $50k a year in 2019.

Tesla only chose the slow base 911 to give the Cybertruck a chance.

If he really wanted to "give the Cybertruck a chance" he could have raced them without towing anything. What do you think the result would be?
You do realize, its still a 911, one of the best sports cars in the world with a insanely huge fanboy population vs an electric truck thats also towing the same 911 lol.

Honestly, I was hoping for a final run with the Cybertruck not towing anything. It is impressively quick in a straight line, and it was equally impressive that the truck's times didn't suffer much with a lower charge state.
I was hopping for 911 turbo s in the last run :)
Dual motor would lose. But the cyberbeast would beat the base model cheapest manual 911 T.. any other 911 it loses. Elon and his ego and constant lying is hilarious. Now he has to worry about the taycan turbo gt beating every tesla in every category.

Tesla would wipe the 911 without the trailer. But the feat wouldn't be as impressive or marketing worthy without a trailer.
@@thedumbconspirator4956 it would be more practical because this truck is probably worse than that porsche at towing in the real world.
Well then we take the fastest porche because this is the slowest base model 😂
@@GraveUypo the cybertruck is infinitely better at towing in the real world than the Porsche...mainly because beyond air, the 911 can't tow much of anything. The cybertruck will also be much better off road than any 911 (including the Dakar).
But then if you attach a truck to a trailer, physics takes over and the truck becomes noticeably slower. So my guess is in order to pull this off, Tesla probably did this at a high altitude so the Porsche would be starving for air to even out the times a bit.
@@christohees9150 that's a job for the Model S plaid/Model x plaid.
Just for curiosity, would have liked to see the same race without towing since you had set up everything anyway.
Go Jason! 🙂 I really like the way you guys all handled this "test". Good honest reporting!
Now do a towing comparison with the cyber truck vs the F350 with the power stroke 6.7 Diesel. They used a F250 with a gas engine.
The only truck that supposedly will be close would be the upcoming 20k towing version of the Silverado EV. And range will still lose to the diesel of course.
No need, ill save you the notes. The diesel will tow for a longer distance without having to stop and be cheaper overall.
What’s the point? The Cybertruck can’t even pull a small RV for a 100 miles. Tesla can show it pulling 30,000 lbs for a 1/4 mile, but I bet it would chew up its battery in 25 miles.
In the tig of war. Elon pit it against a lighter two wheel drive ford. Not a 4 wheel drive or diesel. Elon always cheats on his vehicle tests.

Pretty impressive it really is
Crazy how much the performance dropped off for every race in the Cybertruck
How is 9/1000 of a sec between 2nd and 3rd race crazy perfomance drop?
The difference between times in the 1/8 mile between the truck and 911 got progressively worse for the truck. Every single race it performs worse and worse. You’ll get your best numbers only from one race which is when its fully charged, unless you of course wait to recharge between every race
@@b8qu4ttro Yes, lower volatge has less power. Same as the emptier the gas tank is the less weight to accelerate, hence faster time. But we are talking about 9/1000 of a second difference in the 2nd to 3rd race. Negligible difference from all the other variables as wind gusts, steering inputs, etc. that each race can vary in.

There's electric trains pulling incredible loads at incredible speeds (ever seen the high speed trains in Japan or europe going 300 kph?)
And there are people who find them amazing. I don't. I know how e-motors work, and find them boring:
To me accellerating in an EV is less impressive than a vehicle with internal combustion engine that does the same.
It takes way more effort, knowledge and engineering to make an ICE engine and it work well than an electric motor.
It's the same as comparing a digital quartz clock to a mechanical one: the ingenuity and parts manufacturing, tolerances and the brains to come up with the mechanism that it works. As well as watching it work (or listening to it with engines) to me is more fascinating.
(And yes, i learned how things like quartz watches and their parts work, down to atom level in engineering school.)

Maybe Tesla put the tire pressures in the trailer way up to reduce rolling resistance. You guys were at 98%-100% state of charge on the CT?
Excuses. Elon is a liar.
If you watch Jasons video, he got info from Tesla that they even "lightened" the trailer. (even though it isn't rated for towing a car the weight of the 911 as standard, so they made it more dangerous for themsleves to make it look like the claim works)
Awesome to see EE out in the field! Now one of the two sounds a lot better than the other.
I’m not convinced they faked it, nobody said anything about the tires which is a huge factor, also the end result is actually really close .2 seconds which on another day could go the other way. Just a bit of reasonable doubt is all.
Nice. Should've did a head to head without the trailer though. Everything was there, the cars, the track, just unhitch the trailer.

But this way they gave the Tesla all the favors possible and it still couldn't do it like claimed.
