We’ve got our hands on the awesome Tesla Model S Plaid, and it’s facing off against an insane Corvette C8 that’s been tuned to 1,200hp!!
So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the Tesla, it’s housing three motors under the skin that combine to produce 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Naturally, the batteries and motors weigh a fair bit, and the Model S tips the scales at 2,167kg. What’s more, this Model S comes with a few upgrades, including some Koenigsegg carbon fibre aero at the front & around the back!
Then alongside it, we have the Corvette, which has had a whole lot more work done to it than just adding some aero! As a result, the 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 now produces 1,200hp and an amazing 1,491Nm of torque! So it’s packing a serious punch, but this power is sent to the rear wheels only!
So will the Corvette be able to put the power down? Or will it be a clear win for Tesla? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

It's a fake sound effect emitted from speakers... all electric cars have this as it's legally required to have speakers that alert pedestrians to your presence because the motors themselves make very little noise.

These corvettes do NOT like being tuned. It’s all ECU related and then the transmission has further issue putting the power down.

There should be a way to make the battery produce more power because supposedly the motors arent the limitation, but the batteries anility to supply enough energy since its the same battery as the LR.
You can increase power while reducing capacity by changing up the series parallel configuration. you could upgrade the firmware, increase the wire guage for more power input, and upgrade the cooling for the battery.
This would lead to hopefully maxing out the plaid's motor potential at the cost of a little bit of weight for heavier wiring, and reduced range.

I'm not a big fan of how Tesla's look but that black Plaid with those wheels and the carbon fiber front chin and the spoiler on the trunk makes that car look so much better! I didn't realize they could look that good.

Carwow races with tuned cars never add up. Those BMWs have only 800hp at most and beat the plaid. It makes 0 sense. Carwow showed a 1000hp turbo s lose to a plaid and it only posted a 0.1 second faster quarter mile 😂😂 DragTimes posted a vid of a 1000hp turbo s and it beat a plaid easily.

@@M-TRONI’ve never seen ANY “tuned” car on this channel run worth anything! I don’t know how they “tune” wherever they get these cars from but they SUCK. I’ve seen my friends cars pushing around 700-800 to the tires that would destroy that vette and give the Plaid a run for it’s money when taking power to weight into the equation. Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a modified Porsche, GTR, vette or M3 or M4 on this channel… they always break and/ or don’t perform on the level of the claimed power numbers. For reference one of my buddies had a STOCK Challenger Super Stock ( with the demon engine) and consistently ran 10.3s in the quarter. Maybe it’s the CarWow curse 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥👍🏿

@@M-TRON I’m from a long line of car dudes who hang around other car dudes and when we build OUR STUFF, IT DOESN’T BREAK. I’ve seen all kinds of builds whether it’s a big block LS, 4 rotor RX-7s, supercharged Mustangs and insane kit builds and NONE of them break down like these cars do. I had a heavily modified LS2 GTO that I used to daily drive (until the bus hit me) that had over 215k miles on it and was still pulling like a freight train. Whoever these guys are can’t build a pillow fort 👍🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥👍🏿

Seemed like it was getting the power down on the launches decently enough…you could hear it missing from the exhaust and was probably cutting timing mid run and not making much more than 600hp peak. Oh wellllllll

Carbon ceramic brakes are a pretty common mod on the Plaid. All the body kit did was slow it down by 4/10ths.

@tjtvi I'm a mechanic and work on both ICE and EV. I've replaced some horrendously expensive components on the EV stuff. Like, you could buy a decent second hand car for the price of the component, well into 5 figures cost wise. They can, and do go wrong, and when they do, it's either cripplingly expensive or a fire that burns for 5 days.

The locked TCMs on the C8s is definitely a huge disadvantage with getting the big HP C8s to power forward smoothly. Can't wait for that to be unlocked. It wasn't too long ago that unlocking the ECM came available. Hopefully it won't be much longer for the TCM to be done.

No difference. Carwow has already run a stock Plaid and it ran the same time, 9.6s. Anywhere else the Plaid runs 9.2s easily.
This modified Plaid is not for straight line speed as you can see huge front splitter and spoiler which only add more drag, so i believe it is designed to do well at the track and high speed cornering ability.

Remember that vette is mid-engine, so it has a little bit more traction than the front-engine vettes.
Trust me that C8 os very properly built it was just having a misfire issue but that thing is a rocket 🚀 great work Nathan and Victor can't wait to see it sorted out on the track that thing is gonna hurt some feelings. And the Tesla is just insane out of the hole most cars will get smoked all and all it was a great time with great people CARWOW FTW

The drag parachute is not specifically mounted for this quarter mile race.
its set up for drag class rules, requiring a parachute to make multiple passes at or above 150mph in the quarter, and or below 10 seconds. iirc so its essentially a stock plaid, but one that wont get kicked out after the first run at the drag strip. Some strips wont let plaids run at all without a chute, they have notoriously poor brakes even at the first application, because the car uses painfully poor brake components as its only source of traction control. did you know the plaid doesn't even have DOT3 brake fluid? The brake pads are super low temp as well lol...its like they are purposely trying to kill their owners.

The biggest issue with the ette is way too many gears. That trans is set up for a500 HP gearing. If you could do a 2nd 4th 6th 8th 10th gear shift is would be some much faster

It always amazes me, that a channel that focuses so much on drag races, always forgoes that fundamental part of drag racing.
Also, the vette looked like it had about 30psi in the tires. A good burnout, and proper tire pressure would help the vette.
I guess there's no denying the performance of electric the Vette had a 200 hp advantage and still loss 9.6s sheesh
I would have tried (at least one time) starting the Corvette out in second gear. Think about it for a second - the first gear start is just wasting time on RPM's when you need torque to get you going (like the Tesla does). It might not work, but the RPM/run time up in second gear may really cut down on times if the Corvette has enough torque...

This race was BS. The new bmws can easily beat it with a 10k turbo upgrade. I've never seen a tesla plaid win ever in the street racing scenes.

Somebody tested this. Plaid can do 225km while going 200kph on the autobahn or 140 miles. Corvette could go like 100 miles if lucky lol. That engine isn't stock so its efficiency must by horrible. Stock would probably do about the same as the plaid but probably less.
A 1200hp engine uses a lot of fuel, they are not very efficient so i wouldn't be surprised if the tesla actually can go farther.
@@teresashinkansen9402 That is what confuses me. People complain about the range of an ev which can go 400 miles but also point out modified cars that can beat the plaid but... can't even go 200 miles.
Honestly it is surprising how bad range is on high performance petrol cars. A 911 turbo s can't even go 300 miles!

It’s literally got to that on some channels lol. Even on Carwow, it took a £4 million full carbon fibre Bugatti Chiron Supersport to beat it, and even then, it was close. For the money, you simply can’t buy a better all-rounder than the Plaid imo.

I’m amazed the Corvette stayed together misfiring like that. Should report back with how many ringlands were busted lol. Also sounded like the spark plugs were blowing out under boost or a coil / plug wire problem as well.

A drag set up as far as suspension and tires with a supposed 1200hp engine ran an 11? My WRX would give that Vette a fit and I’m only 500 hp on street tires.
