- How fast is the Volkswagen Golf R 0-60? In this video, we're testing out my Dragy for the first time to see how fast my Golf R with a Stock ECU can run a 0-60mph on a Launch Control. My car in this video is only running an Integrated Engineering Intake, IE Turbo Inlet & a Remus Catback Exhaust, non-resonated. No ECU or TCU tunes.
If you're curious about how fast the Volkswagen Golf R is stock, or just want to see how fast it is compared to your car, check out this video! If you're looking for an awesome GPS timer for your Volkswagen Golf R, be sure to check out Dragy!

You won’t regret tuning it, it unlocks crazy power!
I bet! Planning on going stage 1 within the next month.
@@MkKevin I did a stage one on my mk7 R and it's a completely different car. I ended up with 365 hp and 500 nm. I have no dragy so i'm not sure what the time is now
@@pianoekket I’ve gone stage 1 since this video and you’re right! I’ll have another video up eventually showing stage 1 0-60 times with my dragy, so it’ll probably give you an idea of how quick yours is too
@@pianoekketI take it that’s at the wheels. I’m getting a Galano stage 1 tune in a couple weeks. Can’t wait to see what my 18 R 7.5 makes
One of my dream cars to have.
Looks good sounds good, will give a lot of cars a run for there money especially with a launch.
The R is no joke with a launch in a straight line!
Why does this car seem so CHILL to drive
It is very chill to drive, I wouldn’t lie 😎
The dragy magnets are strong enough to place it on the speaker grill on the A-pillar.
Great looking R! 4.28 sec is the best I've gotten in my mk8 with just lighter wheels than stock. I'd say your mk 7 is running great with just those minor mods done. I use a "Racebox" timer that uses suction cups on the windshield, it has no phone app and a terrible display though.
Thanks! From what I’ve seen, those MK8’s definitely come a little quicker from the factory vs the MK7.5’s
Stage 1 IE TCU and 91 High Torque Ecu ran 3.86 0-60
That's a big jump, I'll make another dragy video with my results when I go stage 1
yup, low 4 seconds for a golf is unheard of, no delay when you launch it. Just a little mosnter, i feel like i gotta get one in the future to see what they are about.
They're loads of fun with great practicality. It'd be hard to regret getting one!
Think your supposed to mount it on the roof from what I’ve read up on
Great video as always. Bought 2024 R DSG 315HP(320PS) and 310 ft lb(420NM).....it is awesome. Coming from Stage 1 APR ECU tuned Mk7 R DSG with APR stage 1 TCU tune ......MK8 R is a bit faster.
That paint is looking amazing
Thanks! I try my best to keep it mint haha
@@MkKevin is it ceramic coated?
@@biggorilla1999 yup + some front end PPF
@@MkKevin you are in ON yeah? Did you do it yourself or get it done somewhere? I want to get my red GTI done, but I haven't narrowed any places down
@@biggorilla1999 yeah I’m in ON. I did the PPF myself and had the ceramic coating done somewhere in Niagara
Highly upgrading ur intercooler made a huge difference when I was still on stock software
Really? I was just planning on doing my intercooler at stage 2
I would imagine you'd get the most increase out of it on stage 2. But if you're experiencing heat soak running stock or are in a hotter climate, I could see how the Intercooler could make a big difference on stock software
I'm currently in the market for a Golf R.
Test drove two mk7.5 R's one DSG the other manual.
The DSG felt quicker, especially using launch control, however I found the manual more engaging and fun to drive overall.
Been a manual guy most of my life.
What made you get the DSG?
Remus exhaust sounds good.
I chose the DSG because I wanted an automatic daily driver, even though I work from home now. Also the crazy launch controls are loads of fun occasionally. I have no regrets going DSG, both have their trade offs in my opinion. In a perfect world, I would love to own both a DSG and manual R lol
I chose my dsg because of the power potential and not having to do a clutch replacement so quick but I miss the raw feeling of the 6mt
@@Frisky_Panda
Thanks.
The Remus exhaust sounds very good.
Do you get any additional pops and crackles with it?
I used to have up a Veloster N with an active exhaust that used to pop and bang, sometimes really loudly.
Was kind of fun, I sold it because since it was front-wheel drive there was traction issues when I stepped on it, couldn't get much traction in a lot of wheel.hop which shook the whole car.
That's why I'm looking for a Golf R to get the sure footed all-wheel drive traction.
You dont need to reset the dragy each time. Pretty nice times, my manual stock golf takes almost 2 seconds longer
Yeah I figured that out after a bit of time. At least you have the joy of a manual, DSG can be boring at times
It is fast! Faster than Dodge Scat Pack. But where do you get it. No dealership has one.
Hey man, nice set up you got there I actually have the same set up in my 2019 black Golf r. Got the IE turbo inlet pipe + the cold air intake and Remus Non-res Catback with stock tune. I noticed you are using different exhaust tips from your previews videos, what happened to the carbon fiber ones? and where did you get new tips?
That’s awesome, very similar cars! I actually got some 4.5” tips on in this video. They’re just cheap faux carbon fibre ones from Aliexpress. Not the greatest quality but they hold up well and look alright. I still have my other 4” exhaust tips that were in my other videos, just not running them currently
@@MkKevin Nc man. I actually have the cheaper Remus tips and I've always wanted the carbon ones but they're too pricey. and that is why I am very interested with the tips you currently running, do you mind sharing the exact product code for the tips please. and also are you using spacers on your wheels? Thank you!
@@jeruelgarcia9049 Yes I'm running 12mm front and 15mm rear spacers. & The exhaust tips are these, size 60-114mm .. www.aliexpress.us/item/3256801731091894.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.15.30f71802XZz3w2&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt
@@MkKevinTnx man! appreciate it! I am also planning on tuning my car this year, my top 2 tuning choices are Eqt or IE how about you?
@@jeruelgarcia9049 No problem! I'm thinking of going either IE or Unitronic. Leaning more towards IE than anything
I highly doubt it's stock ,,no one gets into the low 4s ,stock boost levels??
5.2sec Stock 7.5 variant/wagon with a full tank. Intake and elbow goes on tomorrow to see if any difference
@H-jb4tf Mine does 3.9 sec now with the IC, Downpipe, intake and custom stg 2 tune seems to be similar to others.
That looks like an Ontario plate, fellow Canadian? Nice. PS what exhaust is that, sounds awesome. I was looking to get one on my '19 R. Cheers.
You got it! I’ve encountered a ton of Canadians through my videos, it’s crazy. Exhaust is a valved remus catback non-resonated, highly recommend
i ran a 4.5 with my stock a45 amg. wasn't happy so now i have it tuned and it feels so much more torqueier and way better but havent had the chance to draggy it as i just borrowed one for a day to do the stock run. most say 3.8 to 4 secs with a stage one tune for a45s but even though the golf is also a 2 L, i know a few people that get 3.6 effortlessly with the golf r, seat Leon fr, and Audi s3 (same engine in all) tuned, as the DSG gear box is way better than merc's. so you should be getting almost 3.5 in this once tuned and intake/decat.
My R ran about 4.4 - 4.5 seconds completely stock 0-60. When I upgraded the intake, turbo inlet & exhaust it dropped my times to around 4.2 sec. Combine those with stage 1 & 3.8 - 3.6 sec is completely doable. I image it's really similar to the a45 AMG!
@@MkKevin do you guys have the a45 in the states? Im in europe.
@@denaco I’m actually in Canada, I’m pretty sure neither Canada and the US has the a45
3.65 here was the test I did on unitronic stage 1+ (93 octane) with all season tires on my s3. I did have a cts turbo inlet and upgraded intercooler at the time as well. These engines are awesome.
APR stage 2 and I get consistent 3.6 0-60 times. Enjoy the tune!
why not tape the Dragy in the engine bay?
I sold my MK7 R last year. Had it in the high 2s to 60, but honestly I went too far. The car was at its best when it was tune and suspension only, TBH. Keep it OEM+ in my opinion. Nice looking car, I miss mine sometimes.
High 2s is hella quick, must have been stage 3 hybrid turbo and everything yeah? I just recently went stage 1. I don’t see myself ever going any further than stage 2 and I’m keeping the looks OEM+
@@MkKevin Beyond lol. Garrett GTX2867R, port injection with 1300cc injectors and a 525lph in-tank pump with a Torqbyte fuel pump controller running it all. High pressure side upgraded as well. Crap tons of fuel lol. Intake and intercooler of course, 4" catless downpipe into a 3.5" exhaust. Too much. Plus all the suspension and brakes and whatnot. Was a totally different car.
@@embiggens1 oh yeah, you weren’t kidding around with your mods haha. That’s definitely way more than I’ll ever do. Did it give you a bunch of reliability issues running all that?
@@MkKevin Mostly with the fuel system. It was hard to tune and would have annoying no-start issues. Also liked to blow through turbo to downpipe v-band clamps and we could never figure it out. Not terrible, but enough to be annoying and enough mods that I was like "will it hold today" and that's just not fun.
@@embiggens1 yeah that type of stuff is okay if it’s a weekend car or a toy vehicle, but being my daily driver I would want the perfect blend between face melting pulls and reliability lol
When you get out your favorite car but you know you can't afford it's sad
How you like they intake sound for stock ? Looking to get one for my s3, not sure if I should save the money and get cts. The cars get hot fast so that’s why the number go higher
I love the sound of the IE intake. Stock wasn't any thing special in my opinion, but I highly recommend also getting an aftermarket turbo inlet elbow if you're planning on removing the stock intake
how do you like 7,5R so far? Planning to buy one soon.
Not a single complaint about it. In my opinion it’s the most well-rounded vehicle you can buy in that price range
@@MkKevin thanks for answer, sick ride!
@@vukelja8344 thanks!!
4.28sec from a stock 4 cyl VW Golf is insane power 😳
It gets going that’s for sure!
Very sexy car very nice video 👍🏽
Appreciate it!
Absolutely more than fast enough in the real world - it is a fast car in stock, end of.
Damn.. my 15 s3 is slow asf compared to your R.. my stock was 5.1..
STOCK
I would think your turbo inlet mod will give you slightly more hp then simply the stock one. Nice R nevertheless👍
Thanks! I bet if I did a few more runs I would get into the high 4.1second range, VW claims 4.5 seconds stock & it definitely feels faster than stock turbo inlet/intake
It is fast! Faster than Dodge Scat Pack. But where do you get it. No dealership has one.
I highly doubt it's stock ,,no one gets into the low 4s ,stock boost levels??
I’m the only owner of the car and had it since new, no tunes at all! Not sure what the boost level is stock but I know VW claims 4.5 seconds 0-60 from factory. Lower 4s is reasonable with my minor hardware mods
It is fast! Faster than Dodge Scat Pack. But where do you get it. No dealership has one.
VW Dealers should have the 2023 Golf R's now. They're a little different than mine but still great. Otherwise looks like you'll have to find one used
