So this is actually a tuned VS tuned video. It would be good to see a stock vs tuned vs tuned version so potential customers could see any benefit of adding just a remap, and then perhaps advancing to a remap with added breathing. A screen listing the mods and times/speeds would be useful too for those of us with short attention spans. And rather than a 100-200kmh measure, how about 30-70mph in third which will be more representative of UK use and highlight any torque benefits. Cheers
@@BepisMan420 The point is it isnt "tuned". We werent talking about "stock". You could replace spark plugs and say it isnt stock. Thanks for showing up.
@@BepisMan420 Who cares what the title says I'm talking about the guys comment in this thread numb nuts!
Massively underrated channel. Keep doing what you’re doing and you can’t fail to grow
You guys are Awesome 👏🏻. Will love to see the stage 2. Watching you from Ghana 🇬🇭
Tbh it would be better to see no mods and just the ecu tune for a before and after. Especially if you’re only going stage 1. Mods makes sense if you’re going to flash a stage 2 file
100% agree, the stage 1 file is benefiting from the hardware, so its not an accurate stock vs tuned comparison, but the gains are impressive none the less
@@TrenC21 Almost everyone that goes stage 1 does an intake change of some sort. So your statement is not real world. And the actual stock intake is considered quite good so the change they made is of minor help. The turbo elbow may be the only piece that I would say could make a slight effect benefiting the tune. Either way there is a huge gap just going stage 1.
maybe where you live. but not everyone has the 300-400USD to spend on top of the cost of the tune , so actually a lot of ppl just do the tune first as most companies do OTS maps, they can add the intake and elbow at a later stage and still gain from the original file loaded. Yes the OEM intake is good, but its closed, and doesnt have colder air coming into to, so it does make a difference especially to maf readings, so i think my original statement was pretty real world
@@TrenC21 Omg so your statement is totally wrong. The stock box is the choice for pure cold air if you change the filter out and dremel a hole into the front part of the intake, which is a common change for ppl. Cost is maybe $50 for the filter. That change gets you pretty much the same results to anything else you can buy. I've done all these changes over time and like I said its common for ppl with Stage 1 to do the intake change even if its the cheaper one I just mentioned. But yes not the turbo elbow.
Gonna be honest, making me wanna remap my first car if it can be haha, thanks for the amazing video
Although as you’ve got the intercooler and some other bits on there, so it’s not stock, as you’ve said, you could quite easily put a stage two map on there and no one else would know 🤷🏻♂️
A better test would be to have a bog standard car next to a stage one tuned car
Seriously impressive stage 1 times, especially the 1/4 mile, I expected maybe .4 seconds reduction not nearly a full second! Likewise better than expected on the 100-200, great work 👍🏻
Yep, a stage 1 usually is the best bang for your buck when it comes to tuninf
Because it was not stock to start with ... the air intake, elbow and intercooler all add power ...by themselves BUT more with a Stage 1 or 2 tune...
Totally impressive.
Love these cars.
Looking forward to owning one soon❤🎉
Enjoyed that there’s no escaping the facts a stage one tune will totally transform your golf r And combined with some racing line Bolt ons Get you on the road for stage two And even in the wet it still puts the traction down the best Car I have owned by far and look forward to going to stage two Look forward to seeing more content on this platform

I can vouch for the difference stage1 makes to the 7.5R. Totally transforms the car, and the launches are brutal. Great vid, subbed
Even on my cheeky UpGTI a stage 1 OEM+ is awesome ! It's now a real pocket rocket !
It’s absolutely insane what a stage 1 tune with the TCU tune will make that car do. If you’ve got a Golf R that’s DSG, the stage 1 tune and TCU tune is the absolute best modification you can do for the money you spend and as long as you use a reputable tune, you likely won’t have any issues with the reliability of the car as long as you take care of it and maintain it.
Crazy how good these little VW/Audi 4 bangers are.
Would be good to see the comparison of a stock car next to it to see the visual difference. Keep up the good work guys 👍🏻
Definitely noted and hopefully we can do this for the next round trip to the airsrrip

Great video M8. I have a Stage 2 VW GLI with the detuned version of this motor. I got the 35th anniversary edition they are only here in US. I'm running 12.2 on stage 2. E30. With slicks on because the MK7 GTI/GLI being FWD will not launch for the love of god.
this is so exciting!
Awesome vehicle. I like that it's offered with a manual transmission in the U.S.
Is this something that's available for a mk6 GTI with 3 inch straight pipe to 2 1/2 ypipe? I still have stock down pipe. But could I benefit from a stage 1 or 1plus? Also fwd 6speed.
Does this this tune void the manufacturers warranty? I know there is a stage 1 that doesn’t. And is there a way to get rid of the CEL after fitting a downpipe?
The animation at 3:11 is killer ! What a cool edit . Love it soo much
APR Ecu stage 1 and DSG tune did well for me on my Mk 7.5
Nice! Curious what HP/TQ's it puts down.
As the UK APR dealer when are you going to test the new map/TCR software for the MK8 R platform ?
Would be interested to see how it compares with Racing line.
So how does each change the fuel economy? Will there ever be improvements in daily use when you arent going for it?
I had to put my polo blue GT in stock cus of premium fuel shortage in UK.and a month later I was finally able to put premium fuel bk in my car and the transformation was insane.happy chap again.

I am a racing line customer, they have very good customer service and the team is very genuine, you want performance without compromising reliability? Racingline it is👍👍
Hi. I’ve got a stage 1 ecu and tcu tune on my tts 8s.
I’ve just added the turbo elbow and pipe.
I’m not modding the exhaust or turbo muffler as I really don’t want more noise, inside or out.
If I add a R600 intake, will I need another ecu tune and if so, how much am I likely to gain?
Thanks in advance.
where can i get the oem+ sticker that is on the light?
Any chance of doing a stage 1+ review for OPF?
Great video, you got a new subscriber from Perth, Australia :) p.s. I talked to a Tuner and he suggested to only go Stage 1 ECU and TCU, as the Stage 2 tuned cars sometimes have "Turbo issues" with the Stock Turbo..... have you found this to be true?
we've done plenty of stage 2 cars without any issues, but that's not to say a turbo can't let go even at stage 1 - whenever tuning is concerned sometimes you can get hit with bad luck and the turbo may just not be as strong. In most cases we have customers that have done thousands of miles on stage 2 and stage 3 cars and have had no issues yet.
Adding the dyno numbers would support the field tests
375HP - 370FtLB is what it was dyno's at when we first did the tuning, unfortunately if we flash on the roadside we can't dyno the car at that moment to give accurate figures so instead we're trying to give you real world results.
@@awesomecars1Even these numbers help to correlate the test performance. Thank you.
Nice Vid - You guys put an APR stage 1 tune on my GTI. I now have a MK 7.5 R. Would you recommend the Racing Line over the APR? Do both installs still include a Dyno?
Both software's are top of the range and have a great brand reputation for them, yes stage 1 flashes all include dyno's
A couple of questions -
Why does the car need to be on a charger during the reflash?
Is the 100 to 200 time kph (if so why that in kph, when the rest is mph?)
Does the car go faster if your arms are stretched out to almost impossible lengths?
Do E53 Saloon Amg stock vs stage 1 tune 0-60?
Is this any harder on the clutch? Is the clutch any more likely to break when using launch control?
wow fantastic results. Definitely need to get my 2015 Golf R tuned! how much is a stage one with you guys? Christmas sale? ;)
Black Friday sale coming soon so keep an eye out for that on our social media's!
I love Vw...... Good job
love my fbo stage 2 Golf R
Very enjoyable video - thank you. But surely, nobody would perform intercooler and turbo elbow mods without getting a simultaneous ECU remap - or am I missing something here?
This is a demonstrator car so we've fitted all the racingline parts to test fit etc and show off to customers.
I agree that nobody would do an intercooler on a stock tune but it doesnt help with increasing hp it just helps to redude hp loss because of over heating. So no big deal. Intake pipe and turbo elbow, some might do that tho.
Awesome video guys. I currently have an 8Y Audi S3 2020 model. What’s the price for a stage one tune and a TCU tune? Screw the warranty 😂
Currently on these the ecu is locked so there is no tuning solution via a remap, but we've had some promising figures from the racechip modules. Which can make a significant improvement on times. Which we'll be doing a video on soon too
Was the gearbox software changed as well?
OEM plus .. how about talking about egt and torque limits?
Why wouldn't you do the tune on a dyno and optimise the tune to match the aftermarket parts?
Nice video, Where’s the MK8 tune!! Is it going to be possible?
The ECU are still locked from what we know. As soon as we know we'll start tuning
Love to see the stage 2 and 3 results too.🚙🚀👍🇬🇧

Hi guys. How much is a ball park figure for the stage 1 mods and remap please?
Is it best on a Mk7 or Mk7.5? Nothing radical just the stage 1 for breathing etc. Thank you 👍
This is £1600 which included a stage 1 ecu remap, tcu remap for the gearbox, the r600 intake, turbo elbow and silicon hose intake pipe.
I would like to have then seen a stage 2 with a dp to compare it to that stage 1. Its not near the gap difference as going stage 1, however going to stage 2 costs a lot more money! I've stayed at stage 1+ for my R with these same mods he has and its a little rocket that few I ever come across can compete against :)
You can do Stage 2 for almost 100 euros. Take a look at open source tuning, most tuners just flash a known stage 2 tune anyway.
@@VuBeClan So from a stage 1 to stage 2 it requires a dp and they recommend an intercooler those are the expensive bits going to a stage 2. Especially if you are paying someone to do the installs
@@vroomgc i ran stage 2 without dp or IC, now i’m at stage 3 hybrid turbo with all bits done by my self. I even had pops and bangs with stage 2, for cold weather it won’t make any real difference but once u go summer def do those bits. DP is quite hard to do but IC is very easy to do
@@vroomgc yes! Its the TTE535, also did the HPFP since mine failed on stock turbo. Sold the stock turbo for around 500 and bought the turbo for 1.5 so around 1k for a new turbo and around 130hp extra is an amazing deal..
But £500 wouldn’t include the cost of the expensive racing line r600 turbo elbow turbo muffler so for stage 1 looking at over £1000?
I wonder was that tune on the engine side only because I've seen some tunes where only the gearbox has been done on the dsg box and it sharpens up the shift time and increases the 0-60 time. If the both were done together then it would make it even quicker.
@Bevan Ward good stuff. They are very quick cars for what the power that they have. They put it down very well and make excellent torque early in the rev range. I would get the haldex controller for one to if I was ever going for one to try and get the drive bias to the rear. Every time you see them on carwow trying to drift them and all they do is push the nose. A haldex controller would help that out a fair bit.
This was just the ECU tune yes, the DSG tune could have potentially given better times but we didn't have the time available to flash it!
Hi guys. I have a mk7 R 2016 with manual box. Where can I get this stage 1 done and cost involved? Anything else need done or just remap? Cheers.

How long before the engine blows
How much would this setup cost
Could you guys not have got a totally standard Golf R to test with?
Also, 4.6 to 60 on the first run “stock” is about the same as the book figure for the 7.5R/S38Vfl. So can we assume all the physical mods on the “stock” car had no effect whatsoever?
Awesome improvement over stock! 🙌🏻 Improve mine from 18-19s to 13.78s for 100-200km/h on stage 1.
So how much is your package please?
You never said what BHP it was putting out?
Would having those mods done and no ECU tune not reduce the cars performance. So then when adding the ECU tune you see a much bigger gain. I think a better comparison would be a factory stock car against a stage 1 ECU flash.
We will be doing a stock comparison yes, The extra hardware doesn't affect the car much until tuned in.
Blazen…:) 🔥🔥 💪💪🤟🤙
Should’ve put the live data up on the times.
Who tuned the R?
Would a Engine and DSG map make much difference to a 2.0TDi Scirocco?
An ecu remap would for sure make a noticeable difference and a dsg map would help the added the power and torque.
@@awesomecars1 what about hardware improvements, exhaust, open air filter? Would this be beneficial prior to any such map (s) ?
Fancy mapping my scirocco 😏😂

Any dyno readings, before and after?
Not from the day itself as we flashed this by the side of the air strip but it has dynod previously at around 375bhp ans 370ftlb

Might sound silly but what's he mean by 100 to 200? Does he mean metres or kph something else I'm just a little confused 🤔🤷♂️
Thank you for clearing that up, I was confused as I watched another of your videos first with much faster cars so I assumed it was 100mph - 200mph then when I watched this video I knew I was wrong somewhere as the golf won't do 200mph 👍
I think it has the intercooler, you guys should know.
First and last time I'm watching your channel
The only issue here is, by tuning the car, you are voiding your warranty. Fine on an older car that's out of manufacturers warranty, but would you want to risk it on a new car? The gains are small anyway.
Small gains? A stock car compared to a stage 1 tuned car of the exact same spec is night and day. Many people can attest that driving them feels like it's a completely new car. Also tuning is a choice :) everyone can do what they like
The stock mk8 golf r, with nothing else added has a 12.4 qtr and 4.1 0-60 on carwow. So basically its like a mk7 golf with a stage .5 :)
Sorrry guys, you cant compare the figures as "stock" and "tuned" cause the car was not stock before. There were mods which only would be recognised with a tune. What you did afterwards.
As you said only recognised after a tune, so before the car was still pretty much running stock power :)
Makes you wonder how much margin VW have left off the performance to ensure higher reliability figures + not to cannibalise AUDI's RS sales.
Expected better 100-200 tbh. I have a stage 1 2016 Leon Cupra that did a dragy verified 9.2 on my one and only go. Same engine/turbo.
Guess because the Golf is heavier and my car did make very good numbers.
How much would all the mods and tune cost?
To clarify, this includes the software package ECU and TCU - the full intake kit including the turbo elbow and hose and the intercooler
This modded car should have been a stage 2 remap. Should be bone stock baseline for stage 1 comparison.
Unfortunately because this is a demo car all parts were fitted for promotional purposes, we will be doing bone stock cars in the future !
Pretty sure the first run was in normal mode to…
Yeah good car but soooooo many on the road. Had one for a couple of days along with an RS3 but decided on an M2C. BM is not as stable but waaaaaay more fun, looks better and far less common!!!
How does that compare to mk8?
There's a lot of pros and cons, watch our review on the mk8 we covered how we felt about it
After getting an explanation from an engine engineer, I don't lice ECU tunes. Reliability will always be affected as companies will cheap out on everything they can so the engine really is as cheap as possible and be really at its limit performance wise. It's those hidden things that matters, and also that they usually show 3 years later after the tune...
If I ever do a tune I will go for the full rebuilt engine, transmission etc plus brakes suspension tyres and everything to make the car actually better. Or buy a cheap used car, tune it as extreme as possible and go for the track to drive the car wanting to blow it up 🙃(honestly that would be something so cool to do xd).
Tuning professionals know that some engines can be tweaked a little and be still in the safe zone and other just can't gain a single bit, and others say this but you look every single car and it's like exactly the same percentage increase in performance... keep your car away from those.
We've been tuning for 30 years. A risk is always involved in any sort of tuning and we've had minimal issues over the years 😊
I completely agree with you especially on boosted engines with turbo or superchargers. NA engines benefit a lot from a tune and pose little risk to the engine or transmission. It would be wise to rebuild the engine and strengthen the transmission. Tunes should be done on a custom basis on a dyno with the aftermarket parts taken in to consideration.
Hardly stock with the air intake, turbo elbow and intercooler which I believe are required to do a Stage 2 .. not a Stage1 tune. Would have been better to just get a completely 'stock' car and then do the stage 1 tune and then do a stage 2 with all the bits and see the 3 different results... then if you listen to him he thinks the car has the intercooler...
plz do dragraces
Is that now stock RS3 territory?
Very close! but we will be doing the RS3 too soon so the times shall reflect how close it can get to it.
13.5 100-200 for a stock MK7, damn, a stock Mk8 does the same in 10.8 (per automann data).
Ecu/dsg tune for the R/GTI make it feels like a whole different car. Car is smoother during cruise and traffic, and it pulls hard af when you get on it. There are many tune companies out there. I have integrated engineering ecu/dsg on my gti and it was the best 1k I have spent on a car.
