I'm fucking disgusted by everything I'm seeing the news. I don't know how its possible to look at another human being suffering and not recognize that for what it is. Praying for Matts recovery and that there can be some kind of justice for Gaza.

The IDF has no capacity to launch a ground invasion into urban combat. There's a reason why DEVGRU and the rest of JSOC put so much time into urban warfare training. It is the hardest type of warfare because you turn every variable of danger up by 10. Multiple sitelines everywhere you go, IEDs, symapthetic civilians, car bombs, etc. The same thing that makes a masive army so successful in field operations cripples it in a city, mobile units can take advantage of slow convoys.
I think the Israeli government knows this and does not want to commit to a ground invasion. The level of casualties would get out of hand fast, especially when you consider what the IDF has been doing for 50 years. Murdering civilians and Hamas militants, at a distance. The last time they tried a ground invasion was in Lebanon and they were turned around in a month. I agree with Felix here, I think Israel just worked their way into a pretty unwinnable position.
Don’t think they plan on occupying Gaza City. I think they plan on destroying it completely. Why else force the entire population of northern Gaza to evacuate?

I'm annoyed by this unified marketing push: "Hamas IS Isis." Yea they are a pair of nasty islamic terror groups but why do you have to conflate them like that? They literally are not the same - they emerge from different contexts, have a long list of different enemies (and patrons, as Felix indicates). This statement is about as intelligent as "The Black Panthers IS the Red Army Faction" or "The Sinaloa Cartel IS the Gangster Disciples."
Hamas is a militant resistant group and such movements will inherently take on the traits of the most zealous citizens of that place. These are the same people who can't accept the fact that part of the Ukrainian defense forces are literal Neo-Nazis. If your average liberal leaning American city was in a similar siege the Christian right gun nuts would be the ones at the forefront. It's never some fantasy coalition of resistors, the most batshit but driven people spouting the most unhinged worldviews are the ones most willing to fight and die. It's the same "our terrorists are freedom fighters" reality but amplified by even most smooth brain logic.

Pretty shook by this. Matt’s vlogs have really provided an avenue for self reflection and growth in the last 9-12 months for me just like I’m sure they have many of you.
The context of this (throbbing head comment last episode, first child imminent via complicated and potentially dangerous pregnancy for Amber. As well as the role his teenage health experience has played on his psyche and how it led to the Matt we all love) is especially upsetting.
Matt might not be the same Matt after something like this occurring at the time it has. I hope for nothing but the best but importantly regardless of Matt, I hope I can continue to apply the insights and growth he’s help spur to my daily life and be a better person. I hope the same for you. Hug the ones you love folks and make sure they know how you feel.
Maybe it's his apotheosis. We've seen his arc over the last few years, how he's come to a sort of spiritual awakening; he's talked about his lifelong anxiety about his health being a ticking time-bomb ... and now it's happened. He went down his pilosophical road and now he's had to confront his greatest fear. Kind of poetic. Hope he can bring back some insights.

I'm the opposite of a fair weather fan when it comes to CTH. I sporadically listen to it, binge clips occasionally, but when things are bleak I come back to hear full episodes. It's reassuring to hear full conversations among people who are too trying not to lose their sanity along with whatever shred they still have of hope and optimism in the wake of this horror.
Glad the hear Matt and his family are doing better.

I first got into Chapo by listening to episode they did talking about the March of Return in 2018. The moral clarity they expressed on the issue and the passion with which they discussed the unfolding horrors really gripped me, and I remember literally replaying that segment time after time just because it was one of the few places you could really hear people getting riled up and upset on behalf of the Palestinians, while every other outlet was just uncritical IDF talking points. It was Matt especially that captivated me. We’ve come full circle here. Hope he makes a speedy recovery and return and more than anything I hope the Palestinians achieve the justice and liberation they deserve

I’m gonna be honest: this whole thing has blackpilled me when it comes to politics and the msm. Biden has been a fucking ghoul but Trump wouldn’t have been any better. It truly doesn’t matter who you vote for because the one thing all our politicians agree on is unwavering support for the Israeli apartheid state.

Oddly, I can't find a quick clip of that despite seeing it on the MSM a few days ago. I thought it was a pretty effective line.
More recently Biden said re-occupying Gaza would be a "big mistake" for Israel.
It's pretty clear the Biden administration wants to deescalate this. Of course I'm sure the criticism is that he's not trying forcefully enough, but what's he supposed to do, tell Israel it's completely on its own if it doesn't act rationally? I wouldn't be surprised if Israel has contingency plans for bunkering in if all 194 countries turned against them.
Israel might seem invincible to Chapo listeners, that's why they feel so comfortable dehumanizing Israelis, because it's easier to imagine the end of the world or the end of capitalism than it is to imagine Israel's neighbors hitting enough Israelis for Chapo listeners to feel bad about mocking them, until a week ago.
But for Israelis it's easy to visualize their overwhelming security advantage dissolving overnight. That's why they act the way they do, just as the Chapo types are so quick to point out why Hamas fighters act the way they do.
I think it's fucked to imagine that Trump would merely "not have been any better". He's the guy who almost got us into war with Iran by assassinating Soleimani in Iraq. He'd tell Israel to glass Gaza.

@@michaelcorcoran8768 OK so his Syria stuff was all bullshit and completely debunked by OPCW forensics. And it was really stretching the bounds of reality even without that evidence. So first for Ghouta he claims that jihadists cooked up pure sarin and smuggled it into Syria (it's very difficult and dangerous to make, and impossible to make the sort of quantities or purity used at Ghouta without a chemical factory). Then for Khah Sheikhoun he claims it wasn't actually sarin but a mixture of fertiliser, detergent and pesticide that mimicked sarin (sure) but that was immediately contradicted by the fact that MSF medics tending to people on the scene were able to save victims and stop symptoms with atropine (and later the OPCW confirmed it was sarin too).
Then the Nordstream article was full of nonsense, for example he claimed Stoltenberg was a CIA asset since the Vietnam war (he was 14 when the war ended and attended anti-war demonstrations with his older sister who was involved in an ML party). Also claiming the Norwegian Navy used P-8s in the operation to bomb the pipeline (they don't have P-8s). One thing he is right about is that it whoever did bomb the pipelines did not use divers operating off that yacht, diving to 80m is incredibly dangerous at the best of times, even with a decompression chamber etc., you'd be risking hypoxia, nitrogen narcosis, and that's before you are moving hundreds of kg of explosive around (physical exertion increases the risk of these conditions), whoever did this would've used a DSRV, Russia's SS-750 was picture around the site of the explosion a few days before (it carries an AS-26 DSRV) and was located there via AIS so a probably candidate.
What really gave the game away was a recent piece he did on Zelensky which had US officials talking about him using idioms that are translations of specific Russian language idioms, this was supposedly from a US government source. So even if he isn't just reposting Sergei Lavrov's ramblings all the time (I'm sure there are enough domestic cranks to keep him in business) we have at least one example of him uncritically eating Russian bullshit while being fooled into thinking that he's talking to a US government source and this at the very least demonstrates incredibly gullibility and a willingness to take anything sent to him at face value and uncritically publish it.

I agree with everything you're saying about Israeli policy and their genocidal actions. BUT this is your 2nd episode on this conflict and I'm 10min into it and you still REFUSE to even acknowledge or mention the Hamas butchering of the music festival or civilians. Your silence speaks to your character, even if those acts don't justify the response. Don't remove the agency of Hamas. I'm not suggesting you dwell on it, but JFC just take 15 secs to acknowledge it. It's disturbing how you speak around it. Yea, it’s a little weird. I’m assuming they think it goes without saying, but it really doesn’t as there are lefty groups, particularly DSA groups who have openly endorsed Hamas’ actions. There is a small but not insignificant number of lefties who hate Israel so much they’re willing to applaud barbaric theocratic fascists. I hate Israel, but the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

Why do Chapo guys act like it's some L to say Al-Aqsa Flood was an evil war crime before giving a full-force denouncement of Israel's war crimes? Believe it or not, if your goal is to convince people to oppose Israel, you'll actually be _more likely_ to convince them so if you first demonstrate that you see humanity in the Israelis and don't think targeting music festivals and civilians and babies is fair game. Certainly more than if you euphemistically refer to civilian deaths as "casualties", if you describe Hamas fighters invading people's homes as "interacting with Israelis in their houses" (that's from the guest they had on the last episode), or imply that Israel is systematically killing its own people, including babies, to blame it on Palestinians (I suspect Felix was doing that this episode).

The baby story is fake. It was reported by an Israeli state journalist who claimed that she heard it from a soldier. But when you believe anything reported by the media it's easy to be manipulated. Do you still believe Iraq had WMDS and were ripping babies out of incubators? Both fake stories that were put out to stoke anger in order to garner support for an unnecessary war.
No one thinks that attacking raves is fair game you clown. It goes without saying. On the other hand, the entire western media is justifying Israeli crimes against humanity, and someone needs to push back against that.
Al-Aqsa flood was not a fucking warcrime, people breaking out of a concentration camp can use whatever means they choose. Hamas has also been shown to treat prisoners way more humanely than israel has ever treated the palestinians. Hamas just made the mistake of thinking israel cared about the lives of even its own people.
They mentioned this in the last episode, they asked how does one expect a non violent reaction for how Israel has treated the Palestine people. They probably don’t see it productive to keep calling Hamas attack out since most of mainstreams media is already doing that. Not to mention the double standard set because no one says we need to raise Tel Aviv when Israel is continually bombing journalists and aid workers, not to mention regular civilians in Palestine. The causalities has also skewed big for the Palestine people but in one event the numbers are flipped for a second and now we need to send a whole army in? At this point now Palestine causality number far surpassed the civilians death toll for Israel in that one day but no one’s talking about those civilians lives which have already been dwindling due to the slow choke hold Israel had on the countries sovereignty. You can keep acting like this isn’t the case but w/e

Consider the power dynamic. Israel is a huge economic powerhouse armed to the teeth with the whole western world either ambivalent or in support of Israel. Hamas can say whatever they like, we know they are wrong but it doesn't make Israel's response right.

sometimes I listen to this show and really wish there was just someone to mention the other view, Hamas is no longer viable or legitimate political force. They did execute and kidnap civilians. The correct response for Palestinians of good will is to condemn and actually assist Israelis or their own police force in aprehending the kidnappers or secure the kidnap victims. I understand the historical mistreatment and even marginalization of Palestinians by Israel but the way forward is to condemn Hamas and free Israeli hostasges and then ceasefire would be an option
