  • We’re back with a collaborative project from ‪@MortskeRepair‬ - a repair and return project that is a little different from those we’ve covered before.
Firstly, the pump is a rare one! Similar to many pumps we repair and rebuild daily at ‪@AreaDieselService‬ but still different in its own right. Curtis covers the rustoration resurrection project that Mortske is undertaking that this pump will be a critical component of - a 1978 Chevy C10 with 5.7L V8 Diesel.
Secondly, the pump arrived in puzzle of pieces and our pump technician Corey will have to do some detective work to discover what problem-causing parts/components of this (Roosa) Stanadyne DB2-825-3633 pump caused the issues Mortske described.
Follow along the repair and return process!

Excellent video, I have watched a couple of your R&R on pumps, makes me appreciate the level of expertise and equipment required to do a competent repair.

Couldn't help but start laughing when the Bag o' Parts came out of the box! Found out about your channel from @WatchWesWork 's "Unicorn's Are Real" injection pump rebuild and got hooked. Really appreciate not only being able to watch the rebuild process but the ability you have to take what is obviously an complex process and explain not only what is happening but why an issue occurs when you find something, and do so in an simple enough manner for someone who doesn't work on these all day to understand.

WHILE I AM A DIESEL MECHANIC AND OWNED 2 OLDS DIESELS AND LOVED THEM BOTH!
I HAD AN 1980 THEN AN 82 WITH THE 5.7 LITER (350 CI).
YOU MENTIONED THAT THIS PUMP CAME OUT OF A 78 CHEVROLET PICKUP.
    THE CHEVROLET DIESEL WAS A 6.2 V-8!
I NEVER HEARD OF THE 5.7 BEING PUT IN THE PICKUP!
AS FAR AS I KNOW THE TWO ENGINES ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT
    V-8 s!
WHY DID I QUIT DRIVING THEM?
THE 80 WAS TOTALLED BY AN DRUNK DRIVER,
AND THEN 4 YEARS LATER THE 82 WAS PARKED BY THE STREET AND TOTALED BY A HIT AND RUNNER!

You might want to turn off your Caps key. Shouting at everyone just makes people ignore you.

      @1234597114 Před 10 měsíci +1

The 5.7 was available only in the half ton trucks from 78 to 81.
The 6.2 came out in 82 and replaced the 5.7 in trucks. It was available in 10-30 series.
The 6.2 IS a completely different engine, designed by Detroit Diesel. Some parts such as lift pumps and Injection pumps were carried over with changes.

Why do you reuse the flex ring? Why not upgrade the weight basket to the newer one that does not use the flex ring?

Where i live(the netherlands) cafe is a pub/bar. Indeed sometimes you need a bottle of booze to cope with the regulations. At least over here. Not being capable we take decision after decision(legislation) that doesnt work.
What was wrong with the reliable detroit diesel allison(gm) or the later cummins or caterpillar?

How many of these special tools do I need to do a reseal if I don’t move the metering or relief settings? I’d say I’m an ace mechanic- I say when that’s an 11 or a 1 and I think it’s something I can handle just don’t want to risk blowing up another idi.

During that era with gov regulations as they were, the worst factory engine mods you can imagine became a reality.
The best "repair" for the diesel 350 Rocket was to pull the engine and replace it with an early 70's gas 350 Rocket. There was nothing good about the diesel 350. Swapping for the gas Rocket offered the least mods and provided a great engine.
If you get a mid to late 70's gas smog engine my advice is rip all the smog equipment off. It was all garbage.
