Top 50 Eurovision Songs Hurt by Televoting Score the Most in Grand Finals (2009-2018)

  • It's a list of 50 Eurovision songs since 2009 which were hurt by televoting points the most. For that, the difference in the jury score and the televote score of every song was divided by the maximim possible amount of points from the televoting or the jury.
The video includes songs which competed in the grand finals from 2009 to 2018 excluding 2013 (because of lack of needed data, split average rankings were published instead of split scores).
In case of a tie, the difference in televote's and jury's placements is the tie-breaker.
    All rights belongs to EBU.

This is why the televote + jury system should never be changed! Sometimes televote sucks so hard, exactly the same way it's jury vote which sucks. Having a 50-50 system gaves at least the possibility that deseving songs will won the competition, because if they'll win then they must be both popular and have a lot of quality

A lot of people complain about Sweden. Reality is that Sweden produce very well made songs with good choreography and professional performance. Al tough 2018 was a bit extreme (He didn't deserve first place but somewhere in the middle would be fine) the jury votes not for fun/entertaining entries but for professional ones to even out the odds.
Sweden had 3 entries on here but in 2011 we got screwed by the jury as well so It's not all sunshine and happy days.
belgium, austria and norway have all been blessed by the jury as well and for the same reasons. Last year the winner won a lot thanks to the #Metoo campaign and all the talk around women justice. Sure this campaign was a good thing but it's not something that belongs in eurovision.

2016: Australia (#1), Spain (#4), Malta (#9), and Belgium (#10) are all on the list, as well as Georgia (#11), The Netherlands (#13), and Israel (#14) who seriously contend for my current top 10.
2017: The Netherlands (#2), Denmark (#6), and UK (#8) are all on this list, as well as Norway (#11) and Australia (#12) who seriously contend for my current top 10 (or in Australia's case, are basically there already).
2018: The Netherlands (#4), Sweden (#6), Albania (#8), and Germany (#9) are all on this list, as well as Austria (#11) who should have been my #10 in hindsight...

In all honesty, Lucie wasn't all that good. Not bad, certainly. But not better than the place she got. What was it, 15th out of 40 something countries? That's better than most. Imho all the songs that beat her really were better than hers.
To my mind, what has been the UK's problem for the most part of the last 20 years is that the songs tend to be of such a mediocrity that they're easily forgetable. In Eurovision there is one thing you need above all else and that is to stand out. Good songs stand out, weird songs stand out, even bad ones can stand out enough to get some pity points. Boring ones don't.

Old school funk/disco is not something you get to hear often in Eurovision, feel-good song thru and thru + her vocals sounded great considering she danced at the same time. Well, many of these songs are beautifully produced, and I think that’s why the juryvote is higher than the televote. The juries look at the total package. The televoters, in my opinion, often votes for the best written music harmony and/or the most catchy tune. The votes for Ingrossos/Swedens song this year, were in my opinion totally overrated from the juries and totally underrated from the televoters. He deserved to be top 15, but not top 5, nor bottom 5.

This is not only due to differences in preferences or bias or populistic reasons, but juries get to vote differently than the TV audience: a jury member ranks all of the entries while a viewer usually just votes for his nr. 1 preference. Do a song that would be second for every viewer, and viewers only vote once, would never get points and end last.
