Top 50 Songs Hurt by Televoting the Most in Grand Finals (2009-2021) / Eurovision
Vložit
- čas přidán 3. 06. 2021
- It's a list of 50 #Eurovision songs since 2009 which were hurt by televoting points the most. For that, the difference in the jury score and the televote score of every song was divided by the maximum possible amount of points from the televoting or the jury.
The video includes songs which competed in the grand finals from 2009 to 2021 excluding 2013 (because of lack of needed data, split average rankings were published instead of split scores).
In case of a tie, the difference in televote's and jury's placements is the tie-breaker.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be

No. Destiny's chances were killed due to her basically bringing the same song as 2018's winner. Even the message in that song is literally the same
@Anna O' Sullivan yea she wouldn't have won tbh but def finish higher
@Anna O' Sullivan yeah, she won her semi final. How the hell she perform 6 😢
Basically, juries push slow ballads and generic pop songs. Televoting push stage performance, catchy pop songs, strange concepts and sometimes crappy vocals.
We clearly need both to balance each other.
Difference is, all the songs the televote chose were good, with a few being truly excellent. The majority of the ones here are mediocre at best, with a few underrated ones.
@@mayfriend2959 Televoted songs are (generally) better from a general listener perspective. But usually there are also, as I said, bad songs that do well just because the staging and the show is excellent, crappy vocals, ecc
On the other hand, songs from the juries often are mediocre, but there are many hidden gems and songs that are easily forgotten but they are actually pretty good
juries pay more attention to vocal range
@@CP-ir3ft do they? Then why did they give such a low score to Italy in 2015? They were undoubtedly the best vocalists that year.
If they also consider staging very important then why did they only give 130 points to Lazarev? His staging was epic. And the melody in Lazarev's act was at least a bit more... original ...? Don't know how to put it. But at least I didn't have a feeling of having heard it somewhere on radio before when I first listened to it, like I had it with Heroes. Why was the score this different?
Jury pushes ballads, then why did they killed the Polish guy from 2016 this mercilessly?
The jury votes completely non-political. Then why in the world did they give Jamala's political song this many points? Usually such songs are obvious non-qualifiers for the jury and are "saved" by the public.
It seems that the jury doesn't have any obvious judging criteria and just randomly give their points to something everyone else votes for.
I mean are they actually judging the live act everyone else sees or what? If a jury is actually needed, then please with a clear sheet of judging criteria, every juror has to provide a reason why they put this or that song in this or that place so one can't say: "We are in conflict with that and that country so we give their act 0 and our 12 goes to some "neutral" country, which is Sweden more often than not". And they actually have to judge the same act as the public and not some behind-seven-locks-performance-nobody-else-sees. Otherwise it's just a farce.
@@mayfriend2959 no San Marino 2019 thanks to the jury that bad song didn’t finished top 10
Sweden: * sends entries to yhe ESC *
Jury: "YES"
Televoting: "how about no?"
2021 jury: "ok"
2021 televoting: " wait I didn't mean that"
Love Injected is such a great song! I'm still shocked that Aminata didn't get that many points in the televoting
i am not. its artsy... televoters uaselly dont like artsy.
Hey! Thanks from Latvia😊😊
2015 had so many great songs...
agree it is a great song to perform on stage, but for me, the song is too exhausted to listen to on a daily basis
I loved Love Injected ... Not on the same level as Grande Amore but it was still a great song. In my personal top 5 that year it had rank 2.
Love Injected is the reason why we need the jury votes
and Madness of love too

@@user-wl8wn2fo1r Italy had a very boring jazz song in 2011 sorry
And De Diepte, Die Together, Saudade saudade, and Not the same
@@MrMrjack18 agree af
When it comes to Italy, it seems that female artists do better with juries than the televote and male artists do better with the televote than with the juries. 2011 was the exception
As an italian I think our best female performance (since 2011) was the one of Nina Zilli, but unfortunately she decided to sing mostly in english and the song was not a banger. Francesca Michielin was still inexperienced or she would have had a better result, Emma had a really poor performance.
What did Francesca do wrong?
@@ambam3291 I think no degree of separation is a gem that people didn’t appreciate.

good video!
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's the way my favourites from EVERY year were on this list. Guess I'm a jury simp
Same 😅
Same, I'm more like that
latvia in 2015 with aminata deserved so much better. it's one of the best songs in the history of eurovision and i don't see that many people talk about it. but i'm glad it still got a hundred points by the televote though, which is still a lot. there's many more other entries in this video that are actually tragic, at least aminata did well enough to land in the top 5. that says something.
Thank you from Latvia. Just wanted to clear out Aminata stayed on 6th place
me after i saw the songs who were hurt by the juries: damn glad the people have a taste.
me after this video: alright no one has taste
This made me realize how similiar Tonight Again and Grab the moment sound.
Well I'm glad juries helped some of these entries. Specially Yohanna, Lucie, Gjon, Harel, Maja Keuc, Morland & Debrah, Amimata, Tamara Todevska and Cesar
Damn, Aminata was gorgeous
O jā! Bija lepnums par Latviju😍
Czech Republic 2019 really hurt.
I didn't even like the song that much, but they really deserved better.
Sweden however was so funny, he looked so confident, then he lost the televote. 😅
He came 9th in the televote though
@@sara-stinabergstedt3019 He came 9th with 21 Points? I doubt that
@@ciromertens I think they were talking about Sweden 2019, not 2018.
MJ + JB + swedish + over confident and here ya go
Basically, the top is based on the differences between jury scores and televote scores, but only those songs that were favoured by the jury more.
Tnx, this is the confirmation the jury does not understand who will become popular and who will not. Mans is an exception, but he also got a lot from the audience.
@@user-re9we5so3r That is not the purpose of the jury
@@henning1152 and what is the purpose? just vote for whom they liked? then their voice should be equal to the voice of an ordinary viewer. and if the goal is to develop the music industry and predict trends, that ordinary viewers may not know about, then they f*ked up.
@@user-re9we5so3r The purpose of the jury is not to predic what will become succesful and not. The Juries are there to give points to good songs and a high vocal performance (not make a bad singer win)
If you literally look at the televote results after each contest, they're almost all geopolitical. All Scandinavian countries vote for their neighbours, and this trend is replicated elsewhere. The jury vote (even if some juries also vote for neighbours) brings more objectivity.
gjon bestie im so sorry u deserved better
i think if the staging wasn't so bad and he sang "répondez-moi" then our boy could have won

@@KaleidoSTARPH well... Italy was 4th in juries, so don't shout too much
“love injected” and “no one” are the reasons why we need the jury vote
I think tamara and gjon's was the reason why we need juries, also for s10, sheldon, amanda and especially maro this year
Cesar Sampson is a perfect example of why we need the juries.
Yep. I still find it boring I think most thought same
+ Tamara Todevska, Hovi Star, Harel Skaat, Jessica Mauboy, JOWST, Nina Zilli, Hooverphonic, Michela, Destiny, and so many more. basically, televoters make mistakes too, but juries get the most slander (still, we need both systems)
So true. Much better than ridiculous Netta
He and Benjamin are the worst examples lmao. Way too overrated by juries. There are so many better examples of jury-saves but those 2 are not some of them, sorry.
If you look for specific examples you'll find that juries have done as many atrocious choices as they have done right ones, even they give points to other countries based on bias which was one of the reasons jury was added to the picture to avoid that problem.
Belgium 2021 is now here 😭
Why does everybody say Malta when I saw Israel way more than Malta in this video.
Also Norway 2015 “A monster like me” was such a masterpiece 😭 still love that song!
Malta was definitely here more...
"A monster like me" staging is really bland
Malta appeared 5 times. Israel 3.
I hate sob story songs... "A Monster like me" made me seriously want to puke my insides out. I was literally cheering when it got a low public vote score. Same with "Fallen Angel" this year.
@@lunaskye2352 you’re..weird 😂
I don’t think Monster like me is a pity song
Maja Keuc is stil one of my favourite entry 10 years later 😭 her voice ❤
I still remember the crowd cheering when Sweden got 21 points after their 2nd place with juries in 2018
Basically Malta, Austria, Australia and Sweden just can't seem to impress the televoters...
Belgium was awesome this year, it's a shame I couldn't vote this year
1:39 our 3rd best entry ever. Still don't know why juries liked it so much more than televoters but I don't complain
And usually juries dont like rock songs

i will never forgive the televoters giving 'Never Give Up On You', 'L'amore e femmina', 'Quedate Conmigo', 'Et s'il fallait la faire', 'No One' and 'Milim' such a low score
'Love Injected' and 'It's My Time' should've been higher than 100pts tho
Either the juryes let down Norway or the televotes, they never agree😭except in 2009
Thank you for your videos
Dance you off was iconic
It's been 7 years but Silent Storm still breaks my heart
Malta: Excuse my televote points
Gjon was so amazing and definitely deserved more televoting points❤️love from belgium!
That Malta one is just so satisfying!
Agreed. But I also like the one from Malta.
This list is a hint of why we need the juries in the contest... Some of these songs were totally underrated by people, but live were great
me realizing that like 10-15 songs out of this are my all time favs 🥲
Almost every Australian performance is on the list 😆
except Zero Gravity
wow I just realized how much australia 2015 and norway 2017 sound so much alike, kind of concerning honestly…
I'll always be happy to see Dance You Off in first place ❤️
Wait, why was Måns here?? He can't be bad at anything! Who dared to give him so little points??
Lol
Sshh
They didn't give him little points, there was just a huge gap in percentage.
He had lots of televoting points, but the gap between juries and televote was big
@@turtellok4964 That is literally what I said
We see the importance of juries with this video. Some songs really deserve higher grades.
P.S: both televoters and juries are necessary.
Fact
Yes Latvia 2015, North Macedonia 2019 or Australia 2016 were rightfully carried a lot by the juries.
I dont agree, i think it should be 100% televotes, malta was boring and her song was dated sue me
@Fabian81 I agree a lot. It's definitely good that both the juries and the televoters vote. What is really bad are the strategical votes (like Cyprus/Greece, or Armenia/Georgia/Azerbaijan), ESPECIALLY from the jury, that should be impartial at this. Sometimes the don't even hide it, by giving 12 points to a song that barely got anything from anyone else. It should be taken with less urge of winning, and more curiosity of who you actually consider your best/favourite.
Wdym
crying as a sad maltese
the voice crack of italy 2011
L amore est femina ❤❤❤ great song. Cant believe Malta 2021 was not top 5
kinda sad to see some of my personal favourites (Kuula, Love Injected...) in this list.
But then I see the other entries and I wonder how some of them even reached the Grand Final (LOOKING AT YOU, DANCE YOU OFF)
Je Me Casse seems like such a televote friendly song too
I love benjamin and aminata so much :(
I still don’t get Sweden 2018. It’s still my fav song from that year.
Why are my favourite ESC songs here-
So glad juries excist! Cuz i almost never agree with the televote 😂
5:33 nice vocals there
i was so sad for belgium tbh
in 2021 i forgot to specify
me at the start just waiting for the uk in 2021
Seeing the same countries over and over again in this list kinda proves that certain countries will always be at a disadvantage than others in this competition when it comes tot tele votes.
There is some stuff I understand since it was very obviously overrated (Heroes, Ingrosso, Nobody but you, je me casse, Growing up is getting old) but there were obviously very good songs in the mix (Sound of Silence, Tonight Again, Love injected, Love is on my side, Kuula). It happens when the public opinion differs to much from the jury. Noticed that Sweden (or stuff written by Swedish songwriters) takes up many spaces? Maybe the jury should start thinking?
"Heroes" wasn't overrated, it's got lots of points from public too, much more than Azerbaijan in 2011. It was just a strong year.
The jury ranks the song, meaning its not necessary the favoruite of the jury getting their twelwe. Swedish pop is maybe not the no. 1 by anyone, but it's hard to rank them last. Juries ranks divisive entries low. So, 2021, 2 members of the swedish jury ranked Ukraine highest, while it was ranked last and third last by 2 other members resulting in Ukraine "only" reciving 8 points. Swedish pop is likeble enough for the industry professionals
@@vladd896 Heroes was a Top 5 act but not a winner song. Latvia was better, Estonia was better, Italy was waaaaay better. So you see what I mean with overrated. That's my opinion though. And the public voted the song in 3rd place. So it's not so off.
And 2015 wasn't exactly a strong year. With all those political and historical songs it was rather bland.
@@lunaskye2352 it's your personal opinion, I've just mention the fact that Måns would win televote with his points if he competed in 2011. It has nothing to do with your or mine taste.
The fact he was 3rd only says that there were at least 3 songs that could each win televote if competed in 2011
Me and my guitar was so underrated
This video has once again confirmed to me that I generally agree more with the jury
Breaks my heart to see Moreland/Debrah Scarlet, Dami I’m, John Lundvik & Destiny there (although I preferred Destiny’s song from the cancelled contest)
Australia really needs friends in Europe...
I mean we did come 7th in televoting in 2019. That's pretty respectable considering a lot of people thought it wouldn't do well.
@@sktzn6829 Well... It definitely did better than I anticipated. I mean three scarecrows flying around in the stratosphere isn't really my style. I was scared that they will collide in the air and hurt themselves.
I am still disappointed about the rather low score Sound of Silence got though. Dami Im should have won it.

Great that you're making these videos again! One thing only: the videos are shorter and so are the clips of the songs. Is there some reason for this? It was nice to hear longer snippets of the songs as well as to read the statistics in a bit more relaxed manner.

@@AlexESC Okay, fair enough!
Milim 😍😍😍
there are great casualties at both sides. Therefor we need them both. Clearly on this list we see a package of style, voice, innovative staging etc. At the televoters its way more flashy flashy, gimmick, fun and some occasionally allright songs. We need both to balance things out.
Ok, i could re-title this video as "most of the ESC songs i had completely forgot about and a few i actually liked", and the other one with the jury-hated songs as "most of my favorite ESC songs and a few i really hated", and this makes me the random mainstream music-wise ignorant person i always thought i wasn't, right?

Poor Cesar Sampson - he really should have won. Such a great song. I absolutely love Aminata's song. The song at number 1 is a big surprise. Gjon's Tears was so close of winning. All in all, the juries picked some good songs. Dami Im surprises me, it's an excellent song.
