Fyra Bugg och En Coca Cola was renamed so it could be played. The song stayed the same just changed Coca Cola to Rocka Rolla. So I would argue that it is pretty much the same song that was in ESC.
i agree, according to the same standards used for Belarus' song this year, 1944 shouldn't have been able to participate. The only true difference between the two songs (except for the fact that Ya Nauchu Tebya is ugly as some rotten roadkill) that justified this double standard is that 1944 was useful as pro-NATO propaganda, while the other one was the exact opposite
Am i the only that loves the 1982 Greece's song? I think if they didnt release is as an album it would have won for sure without being illegal(as the rules of EBU say obviously)
Blows my mind how many countries didn't perform because they sent songs that had already been performed. Like, it's a clear rule and so many countries decided to break it. Didn't they know they were breaking rules or what
This is actually quite fascinating to watch. Some of the early 2010s songs that had to be changed make so much more sense to me know as I only saw them for the first time in the semis or final and I thought they weren't good and questioned why they were sent to Eurovision. 😂
So you're telling me that Serbia & Montenegro would've had their comeback in 2003 instead of 2004 but due to the number of countries participated in 2003 was already big at the time so they were cut and instead returned in 2004 huh? That's wild and unfortunate for S&M, thank God the EBU finally decided to create the semi final so more countries could be able to compete. I honestly think they should've done that since 1993 when the number of countries wanted to take part was increasing instead of the stupid relegation system they used during 1994 - 2003.
@Rebecca Woolf My theory is that they probably did think about having a semi final during the 90s but due to the cost of hosting Eurovision they couldn't afford to have two liveshows in one year so the idea was scraped but eventually became reality in 2004. No country would've had to sit back a year and everyone could compete without being relagated if the EBU decided to have a semi final back in 1993.
Well the EBU could have let both Ukraine and Serbia & Montenegro debut in 2003, and still kept the one-night ESC to 26 countries, but that would have meant relegating one more country that had taken part in 2002.They only allowed one debuant - Ukraine - in 2003 because allowing more new countries would have meant relegating too many countries.
@@TumbleTower Yes and that's why I said the relegation system was a stupid idea. If they did the semi final instead of relegating the bottom countries in the 90s and early 2000s, no country wouldn't have to sit back for a year for being relegated. I can't believe that it took EBU 11 years to finally do the semi final and 4 more years to do two SFs instead of one, the budget must've been ridiculous that it took them so long to finally do it.
4:19 I never knew Toše was supposed to represent SCG at Eurovision, that's crazy! That song was a hit in the Balkans afterwards and could have won IMO, sadly aside from his 2004 performance with Macedonia that's all we saw from him in the ESC. RIP

1) Tunisia 1977: Tunisia was supposed to debut in 1977 (they even got announced in the official running order), but Tunisia withdrew before selecting an entry for unknown reasons (most of the people thinks is because Tunisia didn't want to compete with Israel).
2) Ukraine 2022: Alina Pash won Vidbir 2022 with "Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors", but since she illegally entered Crimea, the broadcaster replaced her with the runner-up (Kalush Orchestra)
3) Malta 2022: Emma Muscat has won the national selection with "Out Of Sight", but her and the broadcaster decided to change the song with ""I Am What I Am".
4) Armenia 2012: Dorians was supposed to represent Armenia with the song "This Is Our World", but since in 2012, ESC was held in Azerbaijan and Ictimai (the Azerbaijan broadcaster) couldn't assure the security of the armenian delegation in Baku, Armenia withdrew from ESC 2012.
4:41 best quality not gonna lie
I wanted Zena to come back for 2021 so when I heard that song for Belarus I was just Iike 🧍♀️
They were originally going to have VAL back from 2020 but they openly supported the protests against Lukashenko's authoritarianism. VAL withdrew because they didn't want to represent his government, and the Belarusian State Broadcaster banned them anyway.
Liechtenstein: We want to make our debut on Eurovision!
...
Liechtenstein: Wait a minute... Oh s**t! We don't even have a broadcaster!
didn’t realise theirs been so many songs that didn’t get to perform!
* 2020 entered the chat *
I kinda like far away and rhythm of love
Ah yes the 1918, 1991 - 1995, 2020 - present day Belarusian flag is shown.
8:40 this still breaks my heart
PS: Belarus seems the queen of changing and withdrawing songs.
PS2: At recent years in 2018 we didn't have any problem.
Wrong about Nina Zilli. She was selected to represent Italy, but she has never won the Sanremo festival. ("Winning Sanremo " means winning the category Big, not the newcomers section.)
The year Nina was sent to Eurovision, Emma Marrone won Sanremo. She represented Italy in 2014 instead.
Thanks for the video. Very interesting! 🙂
did Nina zilli won the newcomer section?
@@lexezlao no
This must have taken a lot of effort
🇱🇧Wish they were in it, would have been my winner in 05
Same with 09🇬🇪
Georgia was warning us😣
2016 Belarus: Moment of Silence
EBU: Two can play at that game.
Thank you so much for honoring the real Belarusian flag!
1988 Cyprus :song was played prior, 1992 Switzerland song participated first in the Swissgerman broadcaster but wasn’t selected to compete, then they presented it to the Swissfrench and won therefore was disqualified. Austria 1990, the song participated in the German selection from 1988.
When will we get an updated version of this video?
Siren Song & North Macedonia 2013 was such bad choices, they should’ve represented, but i don’t blame MARUV for the contracts...
France 2004 I really liked
Eurovision 2016 Albania was revamped not disqualified
I didn’t list Albania 2016 as a DQ, it’s listed reason is “Changes”
@@peopipeo It doesn't make any sense to include it here. Then you'd have to include all the Albanian entries that were changed to English
Don’t really think the 2020 songs count as part of this list, they did still make it to Eurovision and they were officially classed as ESC entries, and were shown in all the programs they did on Eurovision week, they just never competed...
Yep! That why they’re in this video Bc they never got to perform on the Eurovision stage :)
Never got to perform on a EUROVISION stage, unless you consider the home concerts as some kind of "Virtual" stage
They were eligible for the 250 as well
That's why the video is about "Song NOT able to compete on a Eurovision Stage"
Malta 2016 Chameleon my favourite.
Nina Zilli didn't win Sanremo in 2012, she finished 7th with Per Sempre.
The only time where France withdrawn, it's the year of... Waterloo
So much bangers 😭
Well, 2022 has given us 2 new additions to this list. Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors [UKR] and Out of Sight [MLT]
Hopefully no more than that
As a catalan speaker myself, what Franco did with Serrat (1968) makes me so sad. I hope my country sends some songs in catalan, galician or basque in the future.
Serrat is such an icon, he deserved better
Can't wait to hear a song in Catalan 🤗
The song is so good it could actually be on today's Eurocision
Y asturianu.
@@user-lg5he4gs5m Andorra has already sent a few songs in Catalan though, so it's not like said language has never been heard in Eurovision.
rotterdam 2020: all songs made me laugh lmao
I'll always miss gems like "To be Free", "Imperija", "All my life", or even "Far Away" (imho it was way better than "Butterflies).. but the one that will be lost gem forever is "Per Sempre", I'll be mad forever on RAI for changing it :(
I mean, Per Sempre was a good song, but I love L'Amore E'Femmina
Imperija and Far Away>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. I'm actually Greek, but I don't understand what issue was caused with the lyrics of Imperija.
Belarus already had trouble with Lukashenko in 2012 LOL
Romania 2016 is one of the best eurovision songs ever, its so sad it didnt get to participate
Debts owed from EBU
Additions for 2022
Ukraine
Alina Pash - Shadows of the Forgotten Ancestors
Reason: Scandal
UA:PBC confirmed on 16 February 2022 that Pash would not represent Ukraine following controversy regarding her travel history to the territory of Crimea, and announced the national final runner-up, "Stefania" performed by Kalush Orchestra, as the Ukrainian entry
Malta
Emma Muscat - Out of Sights
Reason: Changes
After the winning Malta's national final, the song was replaced with "I am what i am"
Russia
Reason: War
It Was Announced That Russia Will Not Be Participating In Eurovision Because Of The Ukraine And Russia War
@@bunzobunny1642 This is a video about songs that WAS SELECTED as entries for the Eurovision Song Contest, but were not performed in the contest. Because Russia in 2022 was disqualified before the performer was selected, I consider this example incorrect
@@user-mz5xg3zd3q Yeah And Russia Will Never Return To Eurovision.
@@bunzobunny1642 Russia may return, but simply won't get points, because only televoting has been used in the semi-finals since this year.
someone rent out Liechtenstein and give them a tv station, that could be very interesting
Fyra Bugg och En Coca Cola was renamed so it could be played. The song stayed the same just changed Coca Cola to Rocka Rolla. So I would argue that it is pretty much the same song that was in ESC.
EBU with Armenia:
EBU with Ukraine:
EBU with Belarus: YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR MOUTH
(I agree with the decision to disqualify Ya Nauchu Tebya though)
EBU with Azerbaijan:
@@Sergioperis When? You mean 2013?
i agree, according to the same standards used for Belarus' song this year, 1944 shouldn't have been able to participate.
The only true difference between the two songs (except for the fact that Ya Nauchu Tebya is ugly as some rotten roadkill) that justified this double standard is that 1944 was useful as pro-NATO propaganda, while the other one was the exact opposite
@@joe_ita tbf 1944 was about a historic genocide, while ya nauchu tebya was about a goddamn dictatorship propoganda
@@ThinkAboutVic but they're both politically charged when framed in their specific context, IMHO :/
France 2004 & Hungary 2009 was awesome 😍😍😍
Am i the only that loves the 1982 Greece's song? I think if they didnt release is as an album it would have won for sure without being illegal(as the rules of EBU say obviously)
Butterflies is my #1 in 2010, BUT Far Away would have been there with a landslide. 🔥❤️
Blows my mind how many countries didn't perform because they sent songs that had already been performed. Like, it's a clear rule and so many countries decided to break it. Didn't they know they were breaking rules or what
Thank you for making this! I love those type of videos!
turkey 1979 and greece 1986 were really good. also bulgaria 2013 and ukraine of course 2019
Amazing video! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
2020 hit me hard!!!☹️
Me: Why wasn't Belgium's 1985 song played?
Belgium 1985: (Song was never released) Also me: Oh... :I
This is actually quite fascinating to watch. Some of the early 2010s songs that had to be changed make so much more sense to me know as I only saw them for the first time in the semis or final and I thought they weren't good and questioned why they were sent to Eurovision. 😂
Can you leave up the text a little longer for us to read next time. Very interesting thanks!
Thanks a lot for this explain us facts about songs in Eurovision song Contest. I really appreciated that.
RIP
You missed the first song Hungary selected in 2009 (Katya was the second choice).
Mark got disqualified as his song was already a 5 year old cover of a Swedish Big Brother song 😂
2009, 2012 ,2013 !!!! Masterpiece !! Love !! Géorgia, italy and Bélarus !...1974 ..dany the french legend !
Great video! One error: Norway 1968 was not disqualified. The composer Kari Diesen withdrew the entry before the accusations of plagiarism had been dealt with by NRK. She later regretted her decision.
From where I read it said it was DQ, thank you for clarifying:)
I love how my country, Greece tried to send in 1978 a diss track for Alfred Nobel that was finally replaced by a song that honoured Charlie Chaplin!
