The Eurovision Song Contest 1985 was the 30th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, following the country's victory at the 1984 contest with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" by Herreys.
Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at Scandinavium on 4 May 1985 and was hosted by previous Swedish contestant Lill Lindfors.
Nineteen countries participated in the contest, with the Netherlands and Yugoslavia deciding not to participate.
Norway won the contest with a rendition titled "La det swinge" by Bobbysocks!. Serving as Norway's first victory in the contest, after a long period of low scores, including 3 "null points".

Finland was so good that year, deserved a better result for sure.

No one deserved ending last that year that's for sure. Finland ended 9th, and top 10 was a list of pretty good songs. Tastes are different of course, and we could always discuss who deserved a higher place. To me top 10 were all top 5 candidates.... so..... well....

For those who didn't experience Eurovision in the 1980's and want to discover a year that says out loud: "THIS IS THE EIGHTIES!", I'd say 1985 is a good one to begin with.

The stage. Cant be more Eurovision than this. And the winnning song is the most typical eurovision winner ever. Cant be more ” schlager” than that

A solid ESC year with quite a few nice entries. A personal favourite of mine is the one from Greece. Not everybody's cup of tea, but it's very nice.

    New ideas:
Eurovision all Entries participating right BEFORE the winning entry
    (Grand Finals only)
Eurovision all Entries participating right AFTER the winning entry
    (Grand Finals only)
What if only Baltic states won?
What if only BeNeLux countries won?

For "if only" video ideas, you could do
If only Romance countries won ESC
If only German speaking countries won it
If only Balkan countries won it
If only Slavic countries won it
If only countries outside of Europe won it

A decent edition, which is a rare treat in the 80s (by comparison 86 and 87 are abysmal)! My favorite is Finland, also my favorite Eurovision entry of the entire decade! followed by Austria and Turkey, I like many others (Greece, Spain, France) but a special mention to Kikki, a national treasure!

It’s great to see you doing more of these recaps, and I expect you’ll probably recap all the years that Sweden host to because we’re going to Sweden in 2024, but I have a question. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put Cyprus above Greece because it was earlier in the running order in this full recap ranking, or were you going alphabetical order for the ties?

Norway 🇳🇴 my runner up this year, amazing song, powerful vocals and performance, they absolutely had a wonderful time together on stage!
Germany 🇩🇪 well deserved 2nd place, I adore the German language in this song
Sweden 🇸🇪 grest host entry! The dancers did a fantastic job even before Carola! Definitely gives me good vibrations
UK 🇬🇧 not s bad song, but a bit overrated for 4th place in my opinion
Israel 🇮🇱 So much energy! I prefer this song over his winning song from 1978
Ireland 🇮🇪 a bit repetitive but a nice and calm melody
Italy 🇮🇹 I didn't like their song in 1976 and this one is not good either unfortunately
Austria 🇦🇹 a bit boring for me, but not bad song either
Finland 🇫🇮 my winner! Just perfect from the beginning till the end
France 🇫🇷 a bit over dramatic, but I like the song and the violins
Denmark 🇩🇰 awful! The song is ok but the little girl just can't sing
Switzerland 🇨🇭 I like it very much
Luxembourg 🇱🇺 I'm the only one who love this entry, my ultimate guilty pleasure of the 80's
Turkiye 🇹🇷 I like it, but it's a bit repetitive, I prefer their 1988 enrty
Spain 🇪🇸 she sings amazing, I just don't like the song
Greece 🇬🇷 I love this so much! I love his singing, and the song is is really different from the others, deserves top 10
Cyprus 🇨🇾 catchy song, but not memorable enough
Portugal 🇵🇹 good song and vocals, not one of my favorites this year
Belgium 🇧🇪 really small and cute song, didn't deserves to be last at all
