Weirdest, Unique Eurovision Entries | All-time Top

- Hey guys! I wanna stress that I chose different kinds of entries for this vid: some to me are just purely weird, like Iceland 1997, Israel 2012 and many others, but many are amazing and iconic, like Finland 2006, Iceland 2019, Australia 2019. They are plain unique, in my opinion, and I love those entries. What other weird or out of the box entries I should have included? Tell me in the comments!

Wanted to clear something up: in terms of "weird", I included entries that either did something super unusual that I can't imagine other performers doing or just were so weird that they kept my attention for the whole performance. So in a nutshell: weird but interesting. For example, Ireland 2008 (the talking turkey), or Iceland 2006 (Silvia Night) failed to achieve that for me.. Alrhough you can definitely make a case that they were weird! But for me not in an interesting way.
Some songs like Ireland 2008, Iceland 2006, Spain 2008 or Germany 2000 are certainly crazy and entertaining, but they are not weird in the way that I choose to interpret this word. Or not weird enough. For example, if there is just funny dancing and some comedy stuff going on it's not weird enough.
Austria 1977 should have been included in the top as well: creepy double-faced singers and a parody of previous year's winners
I can't comprehend how your making a video about weird and UNIQUE entries yet you exclude Dustin the Turkey it is both weird and UNIQUE name one other country that has sent a puppet to Euro vision..... I'll wait I also don't understand how it is excluded while Montenegro 2017 is included all that's unique about him is that he's flinging fake hair around the place like seriously
@@cillianburke6441 Talking puppets are nothing new in entertainment, also this entry was really uninteresting and unimaginative, at least to me, and that was the major factor why I didn't include songs in this top
I thought you'd put russia 2012 XD
@@MX-lp5ie To me it was just fun and ethnic, not weird :)
@@insertname6057 i know is fun but well is something that we dont see in any eurovision year jajs i really love that song
Serduchka was and still iconic ❤️🇺🇦
5.44 that slaps
She should have won ❤🇺🇦
Did she win that year?
@@duckieloooveschocolate second place 🥈
@@duckieloooveschocolate Sadly no, I think she was at second place, at least one of the highest scores. Can’t remember who won that year, just that I find it dead-boring compared to Verka
People being like "omg 2007 was so crazy". Yes, it was because in 2006 won Lordi and most of the countries thought that the way to win is to put the freaks there because people will love them. Fun fact - the winner from 2007 was one of the most normal looking from that year
Molitva
The weird songs hardly ever win. Most off the time, like in 2007, audience and jury just choose the best song. 2006 was an excepcion.
They did choose the best song in 2006 it just happened to be performed by a band in monster outfits.
2008 on the other hand was just filled with joke songs of varying quality due to Verka Serduschka's success.
Wasn't the theme in 2007 also "unleash the fantasy" or something like that? That sort of theme can definitely bring out the atypical.
The amount of crazy acts seemed to skyrocket after 2006. Thank you Finland and Lordi for your service 😭🙏
You're welcome 😅 But there's always been crazy entries, as this proves.
Not really. Just from the 70s and 80s alone you could fill a top 50 of whacky songs. Hell, even ABBA was crazy at the time!
I never realized how many weird entries germany and austria had...
well i genuinely believe germany doesnt give a shit anymore. cant speak for austria tho :DDD
Well ESC is about fun too isnt it?
Well that is right "sister"
But NOWHERE in comparison to Moldova, it's there brand of oddball is the reason why other non-European countries know of Eurovision's existence; that and Ja Ja Ding Dong.
Im from germany and i think they send the wrong people to ESC. The best one war Michael Schulze with "Walk this road alone" and the song from 2020. the rest is a question for me.
basically every year: normal
2007: nah, not for me
Funnily enough the winner was a very nice, normal song.
@@triflomastera4882 funnily enough my country won
I'd say 2008 was even more bonkers - when having an Olympic ice skater on your stage is normal compared to a lot of other entries that year that says something.
@@EmoBearRights Not really normal 😅 Plus that's one of the worst winners ever, IMO, though I generally love the televote only era.
@@florenna You should have seen some of the other stuff that year - it was wild.
Hard rock hallelujah is still the most memorable performance for me till this day, and I was 6 at the time
I noticed that most of these are from 2007
Yeah, after Lordi countries decided to experiment
@@insertname6057 Luckily, nobody can come close to Lordi and they stopped not longer after lol. However, we get some weird ones every now and then.
Still Verka is a legend
That s history ❤
Can we also remember the time Norway tried to enter a song with no lyrics?
which year?
@@_metastabil9570 1995, they had to add some lyrics but most of the song was still the instrumental, they won that year
@@insertname6057 aaah Yes! I know this song already. Didn't know it was for the eurovision and even won. But unsurprisingly, it's really a good song!
@@_metastabil9570 It's a masterpiece!
@@_metastabil9570 Yes it was 1995. Apparently the English complained and we had to add lyrics. Then they complained more when we won
Hatari were amazing and made a damn good statement. I don't know why people hate them so much?
Maybe most people didn't take a deeper look into their message and were quick to judge.. Also that style of music is different to the mainstream.. That would be my guess, but I absolutely love them!
Well, for me it's a bit like the opposite, I'm not sure I agree with the deeper message ("anti-capitalism"? Soviet Union did try that and it failed badly...), but I absolutely love the song, their style & performance! ;)
I loved it, is unique and iconic
@@florenna Soviet Union was into pure communism which wasnt goof for so big country, anti-capitalism is something different. And in countries like US we can see how capitalisn works - terrible :)
Maybe because they waited until after the points were given to disregard the no politics rule…
remember that guy that had a suit split down the middle and he was singing a duet with himself?? I feel like that should've been on here
Omg yes I remember that. But I couldn't tell you which country send him ^^
Jacques Houdek from Croatia, song My friend, year 2017
France 2014 is just a bit underrated because the lyrics are actually about a guy who has everything but yet he wants a moustache. It's criticizing today's society about how we always want more than what we have.
I am a massive fan of Moustache, it is one big brainworm and I love it.
my main takeaway from this video is that 2006-2008 was the bonkers era of eurovision
Yeah, and now many are using those years as justification why we need juries... 🙄We weird entry lovers should rebel!! 😅
it was the best era of music for me
That's Eurovision that I really miss, the contest and eurofans became extremely serious
But forgettting Silvia Night is a crime
@ESC Serg I didn't forget her, once again this entry was just bad for me, I didn't find it interesting. But that is just my opinion, I understand that you think differently. I probably just don't find this kind of trolling funny. For me that entry is cursed, but in all the wrong ways
@@insertname6057 So, you're a serious eurofan, OK) I didn't expect that you could do this top with such a taste. So, you just put here only the songs that you like?
@ESC Serg Not really, I put the songs that I found interesting or that made me laugh or both. So for example Ireland 2008 and Iceland 2006 are not out of the box and unique for me, I can imagine a lot of performers doing this kind of stuff
@@insertname6057 OK, it's fair. I personally always just smile, with every single joke/"weird" entry just because I can see the idea behind it, some inspiration, that people really worked with it to make it look like it is, and it's not another cliche pop song or ballad
it's good that Eurovision became more serious in terms of songs i'd say,and it still has some freaky performances Hatari was only 2 years ago,Little Big last year,Iceland last year and this year
Me watching these performances:
*MOM PICK ME UP IM SCARED* 🥺
@Ivi Kaputova Hahaha thanks a lot for the comment xD
As a German i find it very concerning how many German and German speaking entries are listed here. But Dschinghis Khan and Lordi are just too iconic
Except Lordi is from Finland and their song in English...nice try, Eroberer ;p
@@KennaDeMerkedo I know that Lordi is Finnish. And that's not just because I had the absolute honor to see them live in Hannover so I know for a fact that the lead singers does not speak more german then nein, ja and ja ja
and even its not all songs which were kindy weird/funny :D at least Waddi daddi dudi da 100% missing :D
@@z87OFFICIAL ye. We seem to have some pretty weird taste....
Fun fact : Israeli song from 2007 is about a dictator with a Nuclear bomb but also about the tention between Israel and Iran.
I have no idea how they let that one in, being sensitive about politics.
@Victoria Zed Yeah probably because the message of peace is ok. Georgia sent a song "Peace will come" during a war with Russia, so the message of peace is acceptable..
@@insertname6057 I guess. The band itself is very known in Israel for their songs with social commentary, But sometimes they touch on politics too. I`m very happy they became a "fan favourite" over the years but it`s not just being weird for the sake of weirdness, they have a "point".
@@insertname6057 as far as I know there was a line in the lyrics sounding like 'we don't want Putin' and Georgia refused to change it
@@annapmark536 It was a different year, then they just didn't participate
@@insertname6057 it was before the war. Eurovision is in May, the war happened in August
Now you gotta add 2023 Croatia to the list
That's what I was gonna say XD
We Are The Winners best troll entry oat no cap
and that was Lithuania's highest rank untill 2021
@@flopjul3022 That is still their best result
Love how you follow up "We Are the Winners" with the song that actually won in 2006...
The ,,Wadde Hadde Du de Da" by Stefan Raab was also a Wtf Moment of 2000.
@Serminator 30 Yeah, but it wasn't as interesting or crazy/wild to me, it looked like a comedian doing his shtick
@@insertname6057 fair point, exactly what it was xD
This is for me the best German entry ever! I mean this!!!❤️
Man 2007 was a good year.
Perhaps because Lordi won 2006 and everybody were 2007 desparetely trying to show something new. I remember so good this, because Eurovision was in my country, Finland 😆.
@@Eleonoora22 2006 Lordi's performance was a masterpiece, but 2007 Verka's was and always will be a legendary moment in ESC.
@@jgothen So true 😊!
Dancing Lasha Tumbai, Hard Rock Hallelujah and Iceland's song (2019) are my favorite entries!
Yeah and Iceland had some balls making a political statement..
It's funny how most of these are unironically one of my favorite eurovision songs
Oh yeah. They make Eurovision what it is. It would be boring without those acts.
Disappointed you didn't include Spain's 2008 entry. Rodolfo Chikilicuatre was one of the best and weirdest things we ever did in Eurovision, and it deserves recognition, imho.
Moldova 2011 is just a fever dream
@Igraine Aurora Frutti Absolutely
Ofcourse Lordi, Verka and Hatari 💪
My god 2007 was something else
So glad you included Romania 2013. That is one of my all time favourite Eurovision moments. Cezar is an absolute legend 😍
TRUEEEEE
His voice is pretty cool
Over the years the number of freaks on Eurovision is decreasing and that`s so sad, I love ESC for them! Slavko is forever in my heart♥
Are you happy now?
Well, 2023 delivers. We have all-in crazy (Croatia), artsy crazy (Serbia), smart crazy (Austria), and party crazy (Finland).
@@berlineczka and fairy glitter crazy Germans with metal, I think that was a surprise too
France’s 2014 entry was legit the only french song I’ve liked. I was disappointed they didn’t get any votes.
I voted for them, so good song 😍
I still listen to TWIN TWIN, it is so much fun!
I genuinely like it too, it's so much fun! They did not deserve just two points.
How could you not include Spain's 2008 entry? Baila el chiki chiki :D still a bop, a weird one at that
Where is Rodolfo Chikilicuatre?? He represented Spain in 2008. We can't forget that masterpiece :(
Please read the pinned post by video maker!
Verka is the legend that never dies
That was awful
we can all agree that iceland loves leather lol
How much craziness do you want?
2007: Yes
Fun fact: Australia performed before the commercial in 2019 so she had time to get down from that pole.
idk what europe snorted in 2007 but i want it
Verka is a classic!!
not to mention they had a brief cameo in the 2015 film Spy
hatari is my all time favourite eurovision act everythikg about them (song, performance, outfits, jokes, message) was great
I'm a simple woman I see Matthias, i click
He is beautiful
5:36 that transition is just beautiful
Lordi honestly deserves so much love. Just saw them last month and the costumes are the exact same 😅😅
That's not possible. Mr Lordi has made a lot of changes to the costumes and made entirely new costumes since band members have changed.
@@Mystcret calm down it was an exageration
No matter what happens, just remember one thing: Gildo loves you
Alternate title:
The Actual Winners of ESC
People are always saying how weird acts win or atleast do well, but forget that most of the iconic "weird" winners were actually also good songs in their style. Unusual performance can make people pay attention, but that hurts more than helps if you don't have anything to show when they are paying attention.
I missed that one weird Spanish song in 2008 and many ppl forget Belgium entered with a non existing made up language lol
I remember atm two such songs: "Sanomi" was success, but "O Julissi" didn't qualify.
What many people don't realize or even know is that from 1966-1972 and then 1977-1998 the Countries only were allowed to perform in their native langue(s). So many claimed the brits and other english native langue acts had an advantage.
So if you ever wonder why so many older entries are not english and suddenly everyone is singing english after 1998, here is your explanation! :)
Zdob si Zdub are Eurovision legends.
I love how everyone went all out in 2007 after lordi won in 2006. Best year ever for eurovision.
You unlocked a core memory in me with "We Are The Winners"
Thanks for the reminder that 2007 was the BEST
I am upset Spain and Ireland 2008 are not here. I think were one of the weirdest ever! 😂
Lordi are incredible! I've seen them live several times and ohmygod they do not disappoint
Montenegro 2013 was also quite unique with astronaut suits and the whole theme :D
I'm getting the feeling that Eurovision isn't just a performance show, it's a state of mind. Maybe if we were there, we'd get it.
There are some neat songs in here though.
2:48 HIS DANCING LMFAOOOO
Def missing the Spanish entry from 2008. That was a mess on purpose and I love it!!!! Honestly the humor was ahead of it’s time.
conclusion: Eurovision 2007 was the weirdest edition of all time
Thank you so much for this! This is pretty much the list of songs I've been wanting to find for so long, most of these are my favourite songs :)
They should really bring Guildo back at some point. Every year's just 'oh look Verka's back again :DD'
Romanias: WE ARE NO GYPSYS AND NO VAMPIRES
Also Romania: 9:03
Well... There are no gypsies and no vampires... But there are gypsy vampires 🤷😂
U forgot some performances: "Ireland douze point", "euroneuro" by montenergo, the netherlands with the invented language, Romania with the yodel song and etc
@Lauu03 Those are all good choices but I didn't forget about them, it's just that those ones were not interesting/imaginative/crazy and wild enough for me and so for this top, I tried to pick out the weirdest and the most unique of them all, so if I included more of them, it would lower the standard of weirdness/uniqueness
The yodel song was really cute
@Fixer Dude it was smth unique
Actually that was Belgium with the invented language, not the Netherlands. Assuming you're talking about the group named Ishtar.
I would say that these performances are not only bright but most of them represent really cool songs! Thanks for the interesting video)
2006 is the only year that i vote for Eurovision and i vote for Lordi!
Cant see any Weirdness, Just *Legends* !
I like to imagine that Switzerland 2007 was an official statement, but nobody took it seriously because it's Eurovision.
Where are Moldova 2010 & 2017, Germany 2000 & 2009, Ireland 2008, Israel 2018, Poland 2014 & 2019, Russia 2012, Greece 2013, Spain 2017, Bosnia and Herzegowina 2010, Iceland 2020 and Lithuania 2020?
Poland 2019 wasnt weird, it was traditional
Moldova 2010 and 2017 is a meme, and a dead meme.
Germany 2000 was made by a comedian and 2009 isnt a joke song.
Ireland 2008 and Greece 2013 are humor type songs. Its different than joke songs.
Israel 2018 isnt a joke song.
Traditions in Poland exist.
Russia 2012 is just cringe.
Spain 2017 isnt a joke song.
Bosnia 2010 is a rock song.
Iceland and Lithuania 2020 arent joke songs, the official videos are just funny. (which they arent).
Is it bad if I kinda dig all these weird performances?
@ultimatebishoujo29 It's absolutely fine, some of them are objectively really good :)
@@insertname6057 I know what you mean by some of them are objectively really good
@@ultimatebishoujo29 Hm, yeah, well, even those that aren't considered good musical pieces are kind of interesting to me as well, they keep your attention and that's appealing in itself(at least to me)
2020 could have been so awesome, but corona just said no ;_;
a little surprised Austria 2014 isn't on here, Conchita was a little out of the box and I absolutely loved it! Although I personally wouldn't really consider her "weird," i know others would because she was in drag just like Verka
Well, basically it was a wonderful ESC hymn by a gorgeous diva in a sensational dress. Not weird, just the unusual detail that the diva had a beard.
I wouldn't mind if Lithuania won 2006 like their song said...
But then Lordi happened.
No one wins against Lordi.
fun fact, vampires are alive were the bookies favorites a month before the contest in 2007
Teapacks - Push the Button --- I was never so happy that a group / country didn't make it to the finals.
I'm a bit disappointed by the fact that MANY of "weirdest" entries are not included, BUT, among these Cezar's song will be always be my favourite one. I mean we all love Verka, and that's a fact, but guys Cezar is a real singer and not only his song/performance was weird, but also so accurate! Go check his vocals, he slays from the beginning to the end. And the music? Absolutely well composed. That was my very first time watching ESC, 10 years ago, and I still love that act so much.
Much love, a weirdo
okay, as Russian, I also remember our grannies from Siberia who was in traditional costumes and sang half English, half their native language. it was cringy even for me although it was my country...
upd: they are NOT FROM SIBERIA!!!
@Jesus Mentha To me it was fun and ethnic, kind of cringy to me as well as a Russian, but it wasn't weird, so it doesn't fit this top
@@insertname6057 okay, that's a good point of view :D
although i still think that it suits the top because it was really out of format (okay, eurovision has no format after all we saw)
Oh yes, they were absolutely iconic and amazing!
I would add them too. Anything unusual deserves to be on the awesome ESC weird list. ❤
As a russsian , you had to know that Udmurtia is not in Siberia )) it's Europe. But you don't pay attention to small nations in your own country
Thank you man, you really made me laugh here. Good night
Lithuania 2006 is one of my favourite entries ❤
Who let uk in with that flight song
lmfao ikr
The UK public, iirc. We had a selection TV show with a public vote. There's a pretty iconic TV moment where Terry Wogan and his female co-host each announced a different winner at the same time.
2007 was a fever dream, stan Verka Serduchka though
So many of these have formed the basis of my identity 😂🙊
we are the winners and leto svet were so fun!!! also euroneuro from rambo amadeus, montenegro's entry for eurovision 2012 could absolutely fit on here as well
I freakin' LOVE "Push the Button" and the guy on the two-neck guitar is hot.
Where is the chiki chiki🥺
The weird world at ESC started with Guildo Horn 1998
I want to desperately forget the UK's 2007 entry I'm not even sure we try
Missing from the list Spain's entries from 2008 and 2010 and the Russian Grandmas from 2012.
Great you added Cezar on the list. He's unique but then again Baritones can go a couple of octaves higher so I don't know why people are surprised.
yeah yeaahh!! bring it on! Very good TOP
@maybe Thanks a lot :) Btw to the point of copyright, I learned that sometimes when you shorten the clip, it doesn't detect it or doesn't block it at least. For example, I wanted to use long, like 40 second clips for this video, but 2008 and 2019 songs were blocking the whole video because the clips were so long, but when I shortened them to 15-20 seconds, it was ok
So you don't always have to cut out the audio :)

Okay Hi :D
My opinions of this songs in categories:
Masterpieces: Germany 1979, Finland 2006, Ukraine 2007, Moldova 2011, Iceland 2019 (my alltime 2nd)
Awesome: Iceland 1997, Germany 1998, Austria 2003, Israel 2007, France 2007, Latvia 2008, France 2014
Love them: Lithuania 2006, Bosnia-H. 2008, Russia 2020
(Very-) Good: Luxemburg 1980, Switzerland 2007, Israel 2012, Romania 2013, Montenegro 2017
Acceptable but not good: Estonia 2008, Australia 2019 (just not my taste)
Terrible/ In the flop 10 worst songs ever: UK 2007, Austria 2012 (for me the worst entry in eurovision history)
@Jere_dieKralle Nice ranking! I agree with you in most cases apart from Australia 2019, but we all have different tastes, it's absolutely fine :)
Viva Eurovision. Thankfully, I'd blocked most of this out, but that last Russian one was epic, plus the legendary Ukraine one with the silver star on their head and Lordi. Just amazing. As a Brit, I still don't think I can forgive Scooch (don't be a hater), but I would never have found Dadi Freyr without this amazing annual festival of joy and togetherness that is Eurovision. I love you
One year in High-shool we had a ball Eurovision themed. Before the slow & lovey-dovey songs came in, there were a couple performances from Eurovision.
Me and the boys(and gals) had prepared Dschinghis Khan with me in the lead-dancer. This is still my best memory from the school.
