No but it was Pereira's...the experienced kickboxer pulled the hand down in order to land the hook. A simple but highly effective technique, one that separates the 2x glory kickboxing champion from the ex-basketball athlete. People tried to tell Jamahal there were levels to striking, but the guy is so deluded he didn't listen. Unfortunately the KO didn't humble him, it only made the delusion worse.

Hill clearly clipped Poatan's CUP, not his hip, Joe Rogan, and any sane and thinking human can easily hear it.
Hill never even GLANCED towards Herb Dean, and never took his eyes off of Poatan.
After Poatan waved off Dean, Hill LITERALLY gave him a thumb's up/"we're good" sign and then dapped gloves w/him, lik3 fighters often do after a foul to acknowledge the foul, and that they're RESTARTING.
They then touched/parried gloves THREE more times, before Poatan's pinkie and ring knuckle glanced off Hill's cheek, and sent him crashing to the ground w/his eyes rolling into the back of his head.
Poatan was moving forward once they restarted, because he'd already started walking Hill down.
And Hill was ALSO moving. He was backing up, and as soon as he planted his left leg to throw a punch at Poatan, which Poatan probably felt as they were parrying AND saw, and he threw the perfectly timed left hook that pretty much ended the fight.

Nobody mentions that Alex called the ref off BECAUSE he was setting up that punch. Hill was never getting away from that punch. It was going to happen sooner or later

The best way for you to learn how to say "Pereira" is by going to Google translator, select Portuguese to English, type "pereira" and listen to the portuguese pronunciation.
Joe Rogan says "Pehera" because he thinks that the "r" in portuguese always sounds like "H" in english, but the "r" in portuguese only sounds like "H" when the "r" is the first letter of the word, like "Rio"

If fighters are in the clinch and the person who has the better position gets fouled they normally put them back in that clinch so why should the referee take away position from Alex when he got fouled?
The "protect yourself at all times" nonsense doesn't even apply here, they resumed the fight, Hill reached out a few times and Pereira COUNTERED him (you can see it clearly from another camera angle). This entire episode opened my eyes to what appears to be a rather insidious MMA commentator clique playing politics. Not looking good.
I see your point though, but still disagree he did not protect himself he dropped his guard after throwing a punch in the fight and that’s why he got struck. Pro text yourself at all times means while you’re in the octagon be on alert.fighting or not fighting.

Unified rules of MMA, Section 15, Subsection G, Par. ii: if the fighter states that they can continue on before the 5 minutes of time has expired, the referee shall, as soon as practical, restart the fight.
Alex waived Herb off after Hill’s foot connected with AP’s cup (wherever it landed last, the hollow sound of a steel/ plastic cup is incontravertibly audible).
Herb called “time out”. Alex hopped **once** simultaneously *as* Herb was calling “time out”.
Herb then called “time in” and Hill and Alex formally reengaged by *tapping gloves* then hand fought twice before Hill threw his first left straight which Alex slipped before countering with left shovel cut.
There was appox 3-4 seconds of hand-fighting after tapping gloves for Hill to have refocused.
Alex won the handle-battle and foot position before the time out was called. Hill was check-mated fair and square.
In a championship title fight one should never lose focus even for a millisecond. There are *no* excuses, ever (least of all headlining a historic UFC 300 PPV titlefight).

Yes Alex did move in and take advantage of the moment which I think was pretty sly not dirty. Now in that moment Jamal could have covered up significantly while evading he didn't have to leave himself as wide open and could have just paid for the slime move after his own low blow mistake by eating a blocked punch rather than getting put out.
Joe rogan has usually talked highly about Alex but he shifted the narrative in this particular fight because Hill is on Cormier's good side...since they comment together he is just taking Cormier's side

Joey you’re right but Rogan isn’t insane for having that opinion, he does have a point. I think we need more controversial mma talking points so that people can understand the sport better. People don’t even know how to judge a fight and neither do the judges. And apparently we don’t even know what we’re looking at in 5-10 seconds of footage. I think the ref needs to separate them with his arms for a reset, not just a verbal “Hey Stop, Ok Go” and a simple arms length separation would’ve fixed all of this.

I think there needs to be an official separation of a fight and a continuation of the fight by the ref. You can't tell the ref,no back off, from pausing the fight from a low blow.

What no one is talking about is that they touched gloves as the fight resumed. It WAS a clean restart. Secondly, it was Jamahal who threw the first punch after the restart. You don't throw a punch when you're out of position.
Just ask yourself honestly: would you have had a problem with the restart if it wasn't followed by a knockout? If your answer is no, then there's nothing to discuss here.

He kicked Periera in the cup and Pereira never broke stance. He stayed locked in, looking straight at hill, patted his cup but he was still in his stance. No excuse of letting your guard down, which I don't think Hill even did.
This wasn't like the Mayweather fight where there was a headbutt, ref interference and a short delay after the break before Mayweather knocked the guy out. Rogan just can't help but explore every tiny little possibility and explanation even when it comes to insignificant matters.

Joe is a casual in 2024 MMA and has been since probably 2020 or so when they only started doing PPV’s in America. Joe Rogan wouldn’t have known half of the fighters who competed at UFC Vegas 91 and is only tangentially familiar with The top 10 of the divisions. He also thought they put litter boxes in school bathrooms. Dude is cooked!

I gotta agree with Joey , here’s what I’m seeing. Herb steps in to make sure Alex does not need more time. Alex stops Herb Dean WITHOUT taking hie eyes off Jamahal Hill. I’m reminded of Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee’ instruction to his student “never take your eyes off your opponent even when you bow”. Max says protect “yourself at all times” those are the Refs instructions, they are the rules of the sport. If Jamahal had been as dialed in as Alex. We would not be having this conversation. CASE CLOSED. footnote, I allow a fighter be delusional even publically for a period of time. I figure when a fighter is no longer talking about it in the public he should be over his delusions. Loosing is tough enough in this sport , then you add in the media , fans , cameras and pundits. Give a fighter his delusion for a while.
Herb was completely out of the way. Alex stepped BACK during the brief break, not forwards. They handfight which clearly indicates both are aware they are now fighting. Hill throws a left hand and gets countered. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this exchange. Also, I think it was DC but one of them said "at what other time has a fighter been able to tell the referee not to step in?"... Literally all the time. So many nut shots and eye pokes get waved off by the afflicted fighter and the referee doesn't do an official reset he just says "carry on fighting". Joe Rogan and DC are liars.

Pereira doesn't take extra steps during the timeout, but on that final hop Hill has paused out of respect for his opponent after connecting with the low blow. He obviously would not have paused like that if he never connected with the cup. So actually he does gain distance which he would not have gained if there wasn't confusion. Do I want to say this decided the fight? No, not really. I think Alex was most likely going to beat Hill anyway and some similar scenario was impending regardless. But Alex did capitalise in that moment and it would have been better handled with a clean reset.
