TLDR: if you don't like long, complete thoughts, then don't read further. Below, I've explained how Joey is wrong, & how he doesn't understand the judging criteria as well as he thinks he does. By using some of Joey's own admissions here & the actual judging criteria, I've articulated why Erceg should've won (either 48-47 or 49-46). I argue for a living. I just so happened to have an hour to kill this morning, & Joey's incorrect explanation triggered me. Roast me for typing a lot, i dont care. Im following the video & its explanation, so if this seems out of order, blame the video. Round 1: Pantoja won. No debate. No reason to discuss. Round 2: Effective grappling is when a fighter has a takedown, submission attempt, reversal, or advantageous position that "produces immediate or cumulative impact, with potential to contribute to the end of the match..." In Round 2, Pantoja definitely grappled. However, per Joey's admission, Pantoja "did nothing with it." Applying the criteria, Pantoja's grappling was ineffective, meaning he should've received no points for it. In Round 2, Erceg outlanded & outdamaged Pantoja in Round 2 (See statline). Pantoja took Erceg down again in the last few seconds. But again, Joey admitted Pantoja did nothing with it. Meaning again, it garnered no points. Looking at the criteria, Erceg effectively outstruck & outdamaged Pantoja in Round 2. And, since Pantoja's grappling was ineffective under the criteria, it garners no points for Pantoja in the round. Round 2 goes to Erceg via more effective striking w/ no effective grappling from either fighter. Round 3: Pantoja did not clearly win Round 3. It is Joey that doesn't understand the criteria. Pantoja had success. That is not disputed. However, Pantoja did not have as much success as Erceg. Pantoja landed nothing as effective as Erceg. Erceg caused visible damage that had a clear, immediate impact, & had potential to contribute to the end of the fight. Erceg opened a huge, deep gash on Pantoja's head & landed a heavy left hook that caused immediate damage & a sudden retreat & reset from Pantoja. Joey even said it "got a crazy reaction." Pantoja retreated, attempted to reset, & eventually attempted to grapple. However, Pantoja's grappling was ineffective. It had no immediate or cumulative impact & did not contribute to any near fight-ending sequence. As Joey put it, Pantoja "didnt really do anything" with his grappling. Further, there were no submission attempts in the round. The effectiveness of Erceg's striking in Round 3 wasn't attributed to "a little blood." It was from Pantoja's reaction & the obvious damage the elbow caused. Joey admitted Pantoja had a crazy reaction. It was very obviously concussive, given Pantoja retreated immediately. It was obviously impactful. It was obviously visibly damaging & effective. It checks all the boxes - and more that Joey listed - of effective striking. Because Erceg's striking was more effective & Pantoja's grappling was ineffective, Erceg wins Round 3. You're wrong about Round 3 & its pretty obvious, even by your own provided terms. Round 4: You admitted Erceg won it. No need to discuss. Round 5: Both sides grappled. NEITHER were effective. Fighters are assessed "more on the impactful/effective result of their actions, rather than positioning." That means that the effectiveness is what primarily matters, with control taking a backseat. Pantoja did NOTHING effective with his grappling. He simply garnered control time. As prevoously stated, effective grappling is what primarily matters, with control time being further down the line. However, before assessing control time, effective striking takes precedence. Pantoja landed 2 more strikes than Erceg (See statline). However, the more effective strikes were obviously landed by Erceg. Erceg landed the harder shots, one of which was another elbow that opened a second gash on Pantoja. Pantoja retreated again, & then attempted to grapple, where the control time comes into play, or rather doesn't. Effective striking/grappling is what's looked at first. Other criteria is ONLY reviewed as backup when effective striking/grappling is 100% EQUAL for the round. That isn't the case here. Erceg's striking was more effective by definition. Because Erceg's striking was more effective, control time was never a factor in the judging. If one is more effective, that takes precedence, & the backup is NOT reviewed. By the most updated criteria, Erceg should've won. It should've been 48-47 Erceg.... at least.

Interesting, you mention Post USADA with Aldo but never make a comment about Adesanya's boob. Aldo actually looked notably tired compared to his younger years, he was fast in spurts but fought at a slower pace like he has in most of his bantamweight fights, he was not as busy because of his age. Also we've seen legends put in career best performances, with high explosiveness before in their late 30's, Chuck Liddell over Tito Ortiz, Tito Ortiz over Ryan Bader, Tyron Woodley over Till, Stephen Thompson over Geoff Neal, Frankie Edgar over Rodriguez, Demetrious Johnson over Adrian Moraes, Cerrone over Iaquinta. Also none of those guys are high on the suspicion list when it comes to steroids.

Pantoja's "clubbing" shots might only look effective to someone who has never boxed. Most of them were sloppy forearms that landed on the guard. Most of them were not the fist connecting. They're not impactful of concussive. The jabs of Erceg that you dismissed as mere jabs were far more effective. I disagree with the fence grab too. No warning and no intention to grab. Slamming the fence with your hand without hooking the fingers is allowed.

I honestly think that last takedown in round 5 cost Erceg the fight. He should have kept the fight standing
