- We discuss some of Everton Football Club's history in this video. We begin with the club's location, home ground, and founding story. We then discuss the club's nicknames (the Blues and the Toffees), crest, and important events. And we close with discussing noteworthy players, managers, and stats/records.
The video is not all-encompassing but it hopefully provides some interesting information about Everton FC.

As commenter @Luke Howard points out below, we missed mentioning Harry Caterick as an important manager for the club. Caterick won 2 league titles and an FA Cup in his time in charge at Everton. Caterick collected more top flight points than any other manager in the 1960s decade, which was incredibly impressive given other legendary managers like Bill Shankly, Don Revie, Matt Busby and Bill Nicholson managed at this time. Additionally, he was instrumental in rejuvenating Everton's previous nickname & methodology coined the School of Science.
For more information about Caterick, check out these sources:
- www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-fc-great-harry-catterick-8176505
Additionally, Luke highlighted that an additional historical nickname or methodology applied to Everton FC was the School of Science. For more information about that nickname & methodology, check out this video from Everton FC:

Thanks Luke for bringing this to our attention!
So you a Toffee yet? I'm an American and a proud Toffee since 2007
the cannonball kid dave hickson played for both everton and liverpool and once said he would break bones for liverpool but i would die for everton!
Used to drink in the same pub as Dave Hickson on Goodison Road. Even on match days no one realised they were in an Everton’s legend’s company. Quiet wee man who just kept himself to himself.
A Grand Old Team.
The 4th most successful club in the English League.
Thanks for checking out the video 👍
alex young the golden vision another efc legend
The rivalry has always been there my friend although Bolton were considered the biggest local rivals in the early days ,friendly because fans from both clubs are related with brothers sons daughters and mums and dads from the same families supporting one or the other . You really need to mention mr harry caterick and his wonderful side from the 1960's with alan ball forming a midfield trio with kendall and harvey known as the holy trinity . Also a little known fact that when Dixie scored his sixty he scored 20 with his head ,20 with his left and 20 with his right making it the perfect 60.
Hey Ian! Thanks so much for all this fantastic additional info 🍻
Couple of corrections needed, Dean completed his 60 goals in May 1928 not 1927, and Gary Lineker was only with Everton one season 1985-1986 and not "a few". He missed out on both the 1985 and 1987 championships. Still not bad for a yank (but scousers know best!).
My bad for making those mistakes, but thanks for checking out the video and providing the corrections 👍
@@TheSoccerTavern Yes, bad!
Brand new fan, this video was very informative. Thank you so much!!
I’m happy you enjoyed it! 🍻
forgot to mention harry caterick n the school of science
That's a really good shout. My apologies for missing him in my research. I'm going to add more info about him as a featured comment and give you proper credit. Thanks!
Here's a little snippet for , Charles Dickens use to buy everton toffees whenever in the city .
That is a very interesting tidbit. Thanks for sharing! 🍻
You would need alot more than 12 mins to mention all great Everton players and Managers
Agreed. I had to make some cuts and I should have included some other players & managers instead of the ones I chose to highlight in the video. Some other commenters have highlighted who I missed. Please let us know if you have any others. Thanks for checking out the video
@@TheSoccerTavernbut great video I really enjoyed it. Good work.
Thanks so much!
The Holy Trinity.
Kendall, Ball and Harvey.
Love efc so much
🍻
Everton also brought to anfield the first division title before the KAGS did!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing 🍻
Yep then couldn't pay the rent on anfield so they got evicted.
@@MrBounce66 yer ok
Im sorry but wayne rooney & david moyes how could you miss out neville southall as a stand out player he is one of the best ever & alan ball, greame sharp, colin harvey & harry catterick
Hey Kiera. Thanks for watching the video and highlighting people I missed. I definitely could have done better, but there's always going to be some people left off. I highlighted Southall as the club's all-time appearance holder and clean sheet record holder. And another user pointed out my big miss by not including Harry Catterick. I have a featured comment providing more details on him.
My apologies for not capturing all the players you thought I should have included but I hope the video was still interesting for you. Thanks for taking the time to watch and provide a comment.
@@TheSoccerTavern true but wayne rooney isnt realy a legend at everton had a good couple of seasons but alan ball, dave watson, colin harvey, joe royal, bob latchford, kevin sheedy to name a few most evertonians would put them ahead of rooney even those who never watched them play but a good video
Fair points. Thanks for the feedback 👍
dont forget to mention tha everton football club worshipped at the shrine of total football and the magnificent trio of colin harvey, howard kendall n alan ball david moyes couldnt lace there boots my american friend however we have a soft spot for landon donovan n the great american shot stopper tim howard 👋👋
founder of football league (1888) as well as premier league (1992) - not many teams can say that...
Agreed. Very cool 🍻
New stadium is still 2 years away no where near built. Goodson was the first purpose built football stadium in the world
Thanks for the info! 🍻
Dixie Dean and Everton were the first team to refuse the nazi salute on a German tour during the 30s! Villa did follow suit.
I came here cuz this tiktok dude said Everton was like the raiders rn in 2021
Haha, well welcome and that is quite an interesting comparison. Thanks for checking out the video, hope you enjoyed it 🍻
Great video brother
#nilsatisnisioptimum

great video but what on earth is 'soccer' whats soccer
Thanks for checking out the video. And whatever you call the sport, it’s most certainly the beautiful game.
You have no idea
The only criticism is that you call Football "soccer". It's a shame.
If that’s you’re only criticism, I can live with that! Thanks Niels, happy you enjoyed the rest of the video 🍻
@@TheSoccerTavern That's great. I sure did but everytime I hear the word "soccer" my skin crawls.
You got the last fact wrong we have never been relegated it’s only us and arsenal never to have played a second division match
Hey Gabe! Thanks so much for checking out the video. Both Everton and Arsenal have played matches in the lower divisions, though it hasn’t been for decades.
Everton have been relegated on 2 occasions for a total of 4 seasons spent outside the top flight. You can find more info here: www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/have-everton-ever-been-relegated-13969661
Additionally, while Arsenal have never been relegated from the first division under their current name, they spent the first 30+ years of existence bouncing between the first and second divisions (as well as other leagues) under the name Woolwich Arsenal. You can find more info here: www.arsenal.com/history/laying-the-foundations
and here: www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2015/jun/02/which-european-football-clubs-have-never-been-relegated
Wrong
We've been relegated twice and spent 4 seasons out the top flight. Once in the 30s and once in the 50s
Can't believe Gary Lineker and David moyes ffs wat a load of bollocks, Harry Catterick second most successful manager no mentioned, Alex Young, Alan ball, graham sharp, dave hicks on not linerker 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈he's not a 3rd thought in Evertonians minds as everton arnt in his after Leicester and spurs
Moyes? U know nothing about everton. harry caterick was a legend as a manager, man I could tolerate you mentioning harvey or royle, but moyes??
You made no reference to latchford or ball? while rooney is mainly a manure legend.
Toffees hate reds, there's no friendly rivalry with them, in manchester, london or birmingham there are families who support diferent clubs; so your argument is plain b*llocks.
filipe torres I’m from Liverpool mate, growing up I had loads of mates who supported Liverpool, you still hate them but your still mates at the end of the day, and my sisters support Liverpool, me and me brother where born blues tho
