Columbia became my dream school as I was going through the application cycle. I’m so thankful to have been accepted and will most likely be attending! I was wondering when you reached out to the school regarding the stipend you received and if you know other students who also received it?

In terms of the stipend, it’s not something you apply for and it’s not a guarantee that you get it necessarily. You just may get offered when you receive your financial aid breakdown around May. Mostly it’s reserved for people who have an expected student or family contribution by FAFSA but aren’t able to cover it, or if you demonstrate real financial need. So there’s nothing additional you need to do on your part
My tuition in 1992 at Columbia Dental was about $18,000. Back then it was lot!!!
Honestly the price increase of dental school tuition has been insane and has not kept up with inflation at all. It’s a bigger issue in higher education in general but dental school specifically. Even docs I worked with that graduated 15-20 years ago only paid 17k per year, which is insane compared to what I’m paying currently 🥲
My dream dental school is Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas!

Great question! The stipend is not a loan, and I don’t have to pay it back. It’s something the school allocates based on FAFSA’s “expected family contribution” and is funded by donors

@@giannacrescenzo848 I never applied to UCLA or any west coast schools actually! since i'm from nyc, I didn't want to travel too far from home so I only applied to northeast schools. I have a whole video about where I applied and got accepted on my channel also😊

how much is the room / board for 1 year on campus?
Can’t speak on room and board on campus bc I live off campus, but generally you are only allowed to take 1500 per month for rent from your student loans based on the average living expenses for nyc. If you need more than that you need to fill out paperwork and get approval. I get about 12k per year from loans for room and board and also receive a stipend for food etc that isn’t considered loans and I don’t have to pay back.
