There's a reason why the interior of a Euro Truck is very car-like. This makes it easier to find your way around and it doesn't take that much to get used to switching from the car to the truck. In addition, it also simply looks high-quality, which automatically makes you feel more comfortable than if everything were just functional. You spend more time in your truck than at home. it is important that you feel comfortable in the truck and that is taken into account by the european truck manufacturers.
My experience is still limited, as i've got all my licences and permits only recently, but half my family has driven trucks for years.
From what i've driven Scania and DAF go completely in different directions. In my mind i've compared them like this: i've driven older audi A6 before, comfortable seats, dash from a soft material, nice stiching, everything is controlled through nicely illuminated pushbuttons. That's Scania.
DAF on the other hand is like my 2008 Volvo compared to that. Interrior is comfortable and nice, but not like audi, it focuses more on functionality. It's not low quality or rattly, it's just simple and easily used.
Get into Scania S and there are pushbuttons and ligts, get into 2018 DAF XF and forget about buttons, it's all toggle switches there. It's still a very nice truck to drive but it just does things differently, and DAF is way more quiet than any Scania i've been in.
@@Ephoros I literally drive a 2006 Volvo V70. Half leather interior but it's beige. I would like it better if it was black or grey. They're easy to modify and there are plenty of spare parts. There is even a Swedish company dedicated to selling Volvo parts only. Anything from spare parts like brake pads, discs and calipers to styling like wind deflectors, front lips, sports exhausts and aftermarket headlights. They have parts for all models from the 140 to the V/S/XC90. Prancing moose.... Prancing moose everywhere.
@@tntfreddan3138 i think you are talking about vparts. 😁
@@tntfreddan3138 . Just wondering why you are discussing CARS here ?
@@Ephoros Sure am. Just ordered a new XC-grill, a set of new floor matts, wheel hub caps and a "Made In Sweden" sticker :)
My first ride in a Volvo prime mover about 40 years ago blew me away. It felt like a car compared to Kenworths and Macks I'd driven..
I do love the almost minimalistic classy interior of the Volvo.
Done over 2million miles in Volvo's since 1974 ,they are the best bar none!!!!
Not been on the job for very long but in few months, I have tried 2009 and 2015 Scania, 2020 and 2022 Volvo. From those experiences I would choose Volvo every day, they are quieter, layout is simpler. Maybe biased by daily driver Volvos :D
My dad is a short distance truck driver. He has driven many different brands and models. His favorite is Volvo. He says it's nicest to drive and most comfortable. I have been in a few big trucks. The Scania styling appeals to me the most. But l have never driven a truck, so totally subjective
Have a lot of trucker friends, they all seem to say that Mercs look cool , but they are quite rough, they say they shake and rattle a lot , one friend said " when I hit a pothole it felt like the whole truck would come apart. "
it's really funny, while in the USA there are more automatic cars than trucks, in Europe it's just the opposite.
Great video, the sporty dash on the scania comes with the V8 engine, all of these trucks have fridges and freezers under the bunk and on some of them there is an option on some to have cabinets instead of a 2nd bunk installed. Sad thing is though that it is mostly company owners that decide what kind of interior is fitted for their trucks and as a driver you just have to accept what you've been given. Unlike the USA we don't live in our trucks, I've always seen it as carrying your bed with you and after 4 or five nights sleeping in the cab, you really look forward to sleeping in a proper bed. keep posting these videos mate, they are fun.
You should check the new DAF XG and XG+ interior. They are awesome and setting new European standards...
I love that model! I drove a Mercedes Actros, M.A.N, Volvo Fm model and a Scania R450. At this moment I drive a Daf CF460 Spacecab but I think the Daf is my favorite until now..
I've always loved MAN trucks for comfort but I've not driven newer models for comparison, they also make some amazing military off roaders as well.
Was never a fan of MAN. Had one new in 2011 and didn't like it. Recently been driving 2022 model and it's a vast improvement. It's actually quieter than my car. It's a high spec one so has majority of the options. Great on fuel too.
@@johnthelwell3244 I'd love to try out a new MAN but my driving days are done, I did drive a 20 plate Scania and was not impressed with the auto, so slow between gears and a nightmare to get onto a roundabout without blocking someone. I learned to drive when we still had to double declutch, which is still much quicker than a modern Scania box. What are the MANs like in that respect, never driven an auto?
@@DomingoDeSantaClara The old auto in 2011 was similar to your experience. Very slow between gears. The new one is much better. Probably the Volvo I shift is still the best auto. I am long in the tooth too. Started with the Eaton splitters on a Foden which were ok once you got used to them. Had a 2015 Daf manual for a while. That was very good.
@@DomingoDeSantaClara A modern Scania box shifts in ~0.4 seconds, I doubt you can be quicker than that lol.
If you need 6x6, MAN is an obvious choice, almost the only choice. IVECO/Magirius had awesome 6x6's in the past, but I am old and probably nobody remembers those wonderful air cooled trucks that was unbelievable. You could service those trucks with just basic knowledge, but they never broke as long as the engine was cooled properly.
The volvo looks nice but they feel very small inside while the scania feels alot more spacious and durable
They are but because Volvo wanted to save weight with a little less space
3:42 all of EU trucks have a refrigerator mainly under the bed 🙂
Now time to look up some custom interiors and trucks. I would say start at "The only way is Dutch" styled trucks.
I have driven all 4 of those but mostly the Scania. However going by that clip, for me, The Volvo just gets ahead of the MAN for my favorite interior. Very nice. :)
Hi everyone DAF XG+ has the best interior and workplace. I´ve owned and driven all the trucks you see in the video and now I have the best of all :DAF XG+. Thanks and cheers.
Touch screens are terrible when you are driving, you have to look at the screen to find the button, rather than feeling for a tactile switch whilst keeping your eyes on the road.
In Sweden we call the Actros "Arthrosis". (Artros) Tells you what you need to know about comfort ;-)
Scania dash and seats very similar to what Saab cars had when they were the same company. My 93 had the Saab Scania badge on the steering wheel too.
I really dont like driving the newer volvos the cupholder is too far away so i have to reach for my coffee. About the automatic gearboxes. they are actually manual transmissions where clutch and shifts are controlled electronically
I strongly prefer buttons you can feel without removing the eyes from traffic. So I'm with you regarding MAN (it can even sleep 2 because of the bunk), but I also like the efforts Mercedes has put into the the issue with blind angles.
Anyway, in the end, my take away from all of them is that they try to make those trucks more comfortable to drive long haul than regular cars. Which makes a lot of sense.
On that point I know that Volvo and Mercedes have an edge when it comes to assistant systems in their regular cars. I think I saw a CZcams video about Volvo trucks' automatic emergency breaking. If I was an everyday truck driver, I'd feel better knowing that the vehicle will do its best to prevent me from killing someone.
Emergency braking assists actually are mandatory since 2015 in all new trucks so it isn't special at all
Enjoyed the video chap.. excellent
Scania would be my favourite of these 4 trucks. Yeah I prefer buttons as too touch screen. Some of the passenger seats can swivel around for more comfort when you are parked up and some of them the base folds away for more standing space. All these models have enough head height so you can stand up fully in the cab. And a lot of the bunks pull out from the back wall so you have a wider bed to sleep in.
all of them have seats with air suspension, heat and ventilation function.some have little air pads in the seatback, wich you can pump up or lowering to make them fit perfectly to you spine.
04:31 Yes up there is second bed .. or You ca use it like huge cargo shelf .
Bunks in euro trucks are a little narrow but are about 7 feet long, so you would fit the length easily
Yeah, they are generally very long, the trucks are wide, narrow is less of an issue in Europe, less overnight trips and people are slimmer...
sam as me more phisical buttons less distraction from looking on the road no need to fly thru multiple option to find what you need
Back when I was a kid my dad used to drive a old seddon atkinson 310bhp with no speed limiter and straight piped back in the days when you could get away with it, I can remember how loud the turbo whistle was and even though only 310bhp it used to haul 30tons to 90mph no prob. It had over 1.6 million miles on the odometer before they scrapped it and replaced it with a brand new man tga 410bhp back in 2001. The pneumatic shifter on the old man tga series made a lovely sound when shifting gears, also had a clutch button on the gear knob which was shit hot tech back then so the driver didnt have to use the clutch peddle to up shift.
The favourite back in the day was swapping out the drive axle for one from a coach. Better gearing for speed. Midland red coaches were hitting some ridiculous speeds. There may be a video on CZcams.
Favorite Truck Brand. Feel at home when seated.
One fun and very bad ass thing I noticed on Facebook that one mate from Sweden who’s sure-name is rovanperä is that he actually is related to kalle rovanperä
I’ve lived in most of these trucks sometimes for six weeks at a time, the Mercedes flat floor, folding seats, fridge and
Storage.
The Actros has a great gear system. The biggest problems for me was the MAN's because of lousy heating for your feet. When you clear snow, you have to blow cold air on the windscreen, if not you get horrible icing on your windscreen, so good heating for your feet is very important.
Mercedes is known for their shit gearboxes, if it is good it is because it has the Ishift system from Volvo
my problem with our MAN 18 ton box trucks is that I cant get the wheel low enough to properly sit.
Either I have the seat so high that my feet are of the floor or I'm, being about 1,7 m, always sit pulling myself towards the windscreen to have proper visibility on the dash and the road.
while in the Atego's (Mercedes Benz) there is no such problem.
We do have 2 Eurocargo (IVECO) and those don't have enough space to lower the wheel enough to properly sit, and I do bottom out on the seat despite setting the cushion to the hardest position.
no such problems with our tractors (Semi)
and don't get me started on cleanliness in the Cabs
You make very good videos. Take a look at the Actros Edition 2 or Edition 3. Simply crazy. Like a Maybach for men. 😄👌 Keep it up - greetings from Germany
I also very much like all those analog 20+ analog gauges with the round chrome frames
I drive a Mercedes Arocs 2022 today, it's overall a nice truck but i would go M.A.N or DAF tomorrow if i could scania is a very nice truck to. I believe DAF has the best sleeping comfort of all European trucks (best beds) MAN has really nice seats and ride comfort. And the Mercedes... let's just say that there is more to wish for.....
me and my brother are 6'4 and we both managed to sleep on the bunks in the volvo, scania and merc
Truck Brands i see at work in Germany are Mercedes, MAN, DAF, Volvo, Renault, Scania, Iveco, Ford, and sometimes Freightliner.
For me the best driveable truck is the Volvo FH 16 the seat is so adjusterble I can get a comfortable sitting position I have a damaged spine curtesy of a culvert bomb . It's also set in the best position to reverse both LHD and RHD there's no hanging out the window or sitting half on half off the seat or twisting your legs like a contortionist to operate the foot peddles
Went to a big truck convention in Germany when Volvo FH16 was new. Back then I prefered Scania's interior over MAN, Mercedes and Volvo. It just feels a bit more refined in design and quality. I did like the spacious more open design of Mercedes though. From your video it looks like things haven't changed that much, Scania is still great and Mercedes still looks spacious.
Then again, my grandpa used to be some kind of a sales manager for Scania, so maybe I'm biased.
IAA
@@W4rM4chine82 thank you.
The new DAF XG+ interior should be checked out, they are massive, coming from an merc Acttos driver, I haul cars across northwest Europe
Alot of engine troubles, the Paccar 13L is junk.
@@theworldaccordingtochris4370 he's purely talking about the interior, Not the engines.
@@theworldaccordingtochris4370 all paccar/daf engines are junk. Daf has never made 1 good engine. Also the gearboxes are horrible. I am dutch but 1 thing we cant do is making trucks. On the other hand, this video has nothing to do with that, its all about interieur not the rest. Germans are way better at making trucks. Look at scania and MAN. Mercedes on the other hand is a whole other junk level, they are just as horrible as daf. But the germans are doing a good job with scania and MAN witch are both pretty much the same
@@larsmeijerink5471 ben jij vrachtwagen chauffeur ?
I drive with a Scania S770 HP greetings from a truckdriver from The Netherlands.
There is a reason that Scania and MAN interiors are very similar ,they are both owned by VW ,yes that VW. So a lot of design of both trucks is taken from VW which is not a bad thing in any way. In my opinion ,two of the best interiors on the EU market today. Even tough I'm a huge fan of Volvo ,that interior is ancient ,and seriously lacking behind the others.
In Europe most semi-trucks are automatic today.
Some trucks you can have manual at extra cost, some you don't can't have manual at all.
I drive quite new Mercedes Actros, only 420hp, 12spd automatic/robot, screen/camera mirrors, two screens on dash.
Similar to that on this video, but what i'm driving is more poverty-spec, no chrome on dash 😄
Those cameras and dash screens are great when getting used to it.
I have driven a new Actros and I do gotta say that those things don't really maneuver well in a tight place and the camera mirrors are something that would take a long time to get used to because of depth perception issues with the camera.
I think they've all gone fully auto these days... You might be able to get a DAF CF/old XF but that's about it if memory serves correctly. Some of the ones I've driven have been brilliant, others I'd rather have the 3 pedals than the awkward auto...
Hi I just watched "American Reacts to AUSSIE MOPAR! E49 Charger HEMI Six." I didnt see comments on the track you commented on. Its the Philip Island track near Melbourne It used for cars and bikes. It was the track used before Bathurst for the 1000km race. Currently MotoGP is probably the biggest event at that venue!
Awesome reaction video! Being a bit bias living in Sweden but I'd pick a Scania V8 with leather interior hands down!
For an Scania Lover some special information. The Logo shows a front Gear of a Bicycle, Scania started in the beginning with building Bicycles, so the Logo shows the Front Pedal Sprocket from a Bike.
Sometimes you see a "Super" in the Grill. Super was the Brand of Scania for the Turbocharged Trucks. They can´t use "Turbo" cause Turbo was already Copyright branded of Iveco.
Like one or two years ago there was change in regulations about truck cabs, they can be longer, so there is more space for aerodynamics, you can see it on the new DAF XG+, that has the biggest cab of all EU trucks but not sure about these ones.
They are like luxury cabins.
6:55 I didn't notice the placement of the video side mirrors before this shot. That's clever. It would really suck if the cameras failed though.
They do and when they fail it's on to a wrecker as you can't drive without mirrors 🤦🏻♂️
@@martinsatchell I have read that some manufacturers have provided emergency kits
Automatic trucks still use the manual transmissions, AMT - automated manual transmissions. So basically the truck still has a clutch and gears like it would have in a manual, only difference now is the truck does the shifting not the driver
Most big european Truck/Bus companies offer now camera mirrors with 5 or 6 cameras showing also the dead spots of your vehicle. 😉
Drive a Scania new gen daily at work.
Won’t drive anything else for employment positions. Scania is high quality with minimal touch screens & maximum buttons. Buttons mean quality because it’s more expensive to wire in lots of buttons than have just a digital touchscreen.
Touchscreens when driving along bumpy roads is dangerous to use & awkward
If a touchscreen fails in other brands like in Merc’s the whole truck cannot be driven, Merc’s are known to have huge downtime costs & lose power after about 80,000 due to clogged manifolds due to EGR issues.
Im driving an Actros 2024 now and I hate it. Not only have they removed 95% of the buttons, but the infotainment system processor is very slow. Absolutely horrid.
I have driven both Mercedes and Scania trucks here in Australia. The Scania especially is so easy to drive and very comfortable and quiet. there appears to be more Scania's on the road than Volvo's . Compared to the cab over Kenworth's I drove in the late eighties, they are chalk and cheese.
By the sounds your ultimate vacation might be to Södertälje south of Stockholm, where all the Scania are made.
My Citroen C4 Picasso has most controls from a single touchscreen.
It's annoying and in the future it's a deal breaker when I buy a car.
Hey, im a dutch truck driver. If you wanna get in touch to get some questions answered or just to have someone in Europe to contact with. Im here. Love your show man!
You should take a look at custom euro truck interiors.
From living in trucks for 25 years this is my toplist: Daf, scania, merc, man, volvo, renault.
US : Automatic cars, manual trucks
Europe : Manual cars, automatic trucks
XD
When you get chance check out some of the Scania longline there are some really impressive trucks on YT .
6:09 the Freightliner Cascadia have the same display
U should check out tuned and customized interiors
Im driving the MAN at the moment and he is realy good , Alot of space and even the top and lower bunk has a lataflex .
Yes the Mercedes has digital screens on each side as it has cameras instead of mirrors on both sides
A friend of mine drives a Renault and swears that since he got to drive that, he doesn't want to ever switch to any other brand again, is over the moon happy with his machine.
We have not this room like the US big rigs. But we often have to drive 2-3 weeks in row. So we need so e nice interieur
My dad currently drives the Volvo but he used to drive the man. As a truck on a whole he prefers the Volvo fh16 but he preferred the man interior.
You were talking about that euro truck was more hitech it's not only truck's i'm a wheelexkavator operator and it's a big diffrens between us and sweden. You would look at our gravel transporters.
I didn't notice it in the Scania, or the Volvo, but in the MAN it's visible.
At 4:28 it is a bunk bed in there, it's just lifted in the video.
From one who has driven some of these trucks. Ranking goes, Scania - Great sound and the feeling of something of real quality, sometimes heavier to maintain. Volvo - The best allrounder imho. great seats and driving position, probably the best seats in the business, but dull engines compared to Scania. MAN - Never goes wrong, horrible heating for your feet when plowing snow in the winter, but bulletproof otherwise, prob my favorite if reliable trucking was most important. The different cooling channels for block and head means you can keep on trucking for a while even with a blown head gasket, great for getting you to the service center and still do your deliveries on time. Those really are the only sane options in the Scandinavian market. I have not driven Kamaz and other east European brands tough. DAF, cheap but for a reason. Never driven French trucks but I am fond of IVECO for light trucks(only IVECO's I've driven) God bless from Norway...
Funfact, the Scania an the MAN only looks different, technically they are almost the same, because they belong to the group: Traton SE, known as the Traton Group (formerly Volkswagen Truck & Bus AG), is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group and one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, with its brands: MAN Truck & Bus, Scania, Navistar, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus.
So if you like Scania, then you like MAN too and in generally Volkswagen :)
We have Volvo and MAN trucks in our company and they both do the work - also with the comfort of drivers. Nothing bad to say about either one. As well Scania or MB would do but we got the better deals with what we have.
U should see the DAF interior, they are the first out with the biggest cab after nev EU regulations, the interior in the newest DAF XG+ is amazing
You should watch the BIGtruck 2022 Cabtest; it's in Dutch, but there are English closed captions.
Wow that looks stellar, will record that in a couple days 🎉
Fun fact, both scania and MAN are owned by Volkswagen, might be part of the reason why it’s reminding you of a cars interior as much like the cars a lot of elements are from a shared bin such as the radio in a scania etc and up until very recently the technology in a us truck was equivalent to a euro truck from the 80s/90s including a lot of new American trucks still not having air suspension
Scania was Swedish until VW bought them in 2015, while MAN has been around VW for decades. Scania did certainly not get their (car like) interior from VW. It was there long before. So when Scania became a sister company of MAN, ...well...then it was MAN who was the one who had to schooled by big brother Scania. ...and that has given results in the last generation of MAN trrucks.
They have the bed just behind the chairs because the cab is counted in the full length of The truck and trailer in the USA the truck AB size is not included in the overall length
Scania or Volvo. Both, both is good
The Daf XG is the best at this moment!
Pet hate of mine. Not an "Automatic" gearbox, they use "Automated Manual" It's the complete manual gearbox and clutch controlled by the truck, totally different to an automatic. Americans tend to hate on it even though they don't know what it is.
Just to let you know about the sleeper. The cabovers is in full vehicle width. So not like the US truck where the cab is actually narrower the the full allowed with of the truck.
So even if you 2meter tall or as me 190cm I have no problem with the length of the sleeper/bed. What at some models is the problem is the sleeper/bed is too narrow.
In my opinion its a bit wrong to say automatic as in an automatic gearbox. You know like the allison or some car automatic gearboxes. Because its not the same in the trucks, a better name would be: Automated Gearbox/Transmission, not automatic. I know that for example Volvos I-Shift is a 12 speed (the most common one on heavy trucks here in Sweden) unsynchronized gearbox, its just electric/pneumatic shifting on it, instead of the long gearstick! So its not that complicated actually, the gearbox itself is alot simpler then a traditional gearbox!
So they are basically automated manuals 😎
Interesting. I also learnt that many of the truckers in Americas, APAC and Euro alike do pimp their rides in terms of interior. If they can, they mod it a lot. Is there some video that shows this, maybe even in comparison? If i try to search utub, i always get a bunch of ETS2... :)
In Norway, only automatic buses and trucks last 5 year
if you want to know more about euro truckers opinion about how it is to be a trucker in europe. You should listen to the polish trucker Iwona Blecharczyk. She has more than 10 years experience of trucking, she has also been to the US so she can compare how it is trucking there as it to doing it in europe. There are subtitles, she speak polish in her vlogs.
Remember that they have some of the expensive packs so they are not like the cheap ones, you can buy some with much more boring interiors
nearing 100k
Man and Scania has the same owner!
Daf has the best Mattress thats for sure I’ve driven an MAN Mercedes and now a Daf, but I’ll prefer a Scania above any other brand also the interiors
And these trucks are very very driver friendly! They are very easy to drive! My uncle in Greece has a Scania made in 2012.. and I hopped in and drove it across country having zero big truck driving experience.
Have you ever heard about that driver licence is a thing to have before starting to drive a truck....??? It's an extensive training course where you get the needed experience. .....but you do that driving with zero knowledge/experience....??? ....I can't believe what people can do out of stupidity. But I guess who cares in Greece.
Ill give mercedes a point for their corner couch in the Actros but if you really want the biggest most spacious cab check out the Scania Longline.
If I were to choose then this isn't the best video to judge by because some were definitely more highlighted and detailed viewing angles like Scania and MAN compare to Volvo and Mercedes. It looks more like Scania vs MAN. I'm a Volvo fan anyway, I love techy interiors so ofc it's Volvo for me, but that Scania V8 trim is really nice too.
The cruise control on the latest 2023 Mercedes is staggering it will read speed limits and slow down. When you come up to a roundabout it will slow you down and brake in plenty of time then accelerate back up to speed once cleared all you have to do is turn the wheel. If anyone pulls in front of you or slows down it will slowdown or stop, it tells you the speed of vehicles in front of you and warns you if anything gets to close or near a blind spot. All that's missing is an integrated trailer to do the same at the rear which I'm sure is not that far off. Ps it even tells you to take a break if it thinks your attention is waning not sure how this works but it does.
03:00 blind spot camera/screen.
One thing these vids don’t show is how quiet inside allot of these European trucks are compared to the American counterpart, also having driven Volvos for quiet some time at 6.2 I easily fit in the bunk plenty of leg space, if memory serves the windscreen is about 8ft wide in my trucks the mattress finishes an there’s a little shelf of the edge also so plenty of room…
You got to check out scania XXL longline
Would be even better if they had some room. All that luxury but a we bit cramped. Sort of like oversized day cabs.
I'm from europe and stumbled upon this video. I have no idea what a typical USA truck cabin is like ?
Scania on top always!
Take a Look on the DAF XG +
The interior of an Scania is design by Porsche Engineer.
And i gone tell you, Scania is the King.
You will notice that there are NO stick-shifts (except special applications).
DAF is more suitable for a tall person, and the beds are wider, no dent from the seats, just straight same size as your home spare bed.
