    I actually work at a DAF dealership, so I might some insight / info I can share about these (and some of the regulations stuff you mentioned)
    1st of all, there was indeed a new regulation that allows for slightly bigger trucks, as long as they see a certain minimal improvement in aerodynamics and fuel consumption (if there are no improvements, than the cab can`t get bigger). The new XF is of a similar size to the previous one, but the XG actually saw a decent increase in cab length, the cab itself is taller, and sits up higher (like you would have seen in the video), with a smaller engine hump. The powertrain options are exactly the same on both the XF, XG, and XG+, and they top out at 530hp, like the previous F7 trucks did (despite the new engines being entirely reworked), there is a decent increase in torque though.
    In terms of powertrains and the reputaion they may have, here`s the thing: DAF`s focus is on driver comfort and operation costs, so the engines top out at 530hp because DAF considers that that`s the most amount of power operators will realisticly really need for most use cases, without sacrificing on fuel consumption. Their Euro 6 engines haven`t been without their faults (primarily injection systems, turbos and VTG actuators, and SCR, just like every truck out there equipped with emission systems), but they are either largely preventable through maintenance and being careful about fuel and Adblue quality and letting the truck regen when it needs to, or there are service bulletins in place to help with costs in case of premature failures of the vtg actuator.
    The MX engines really are good engines, and will generally take care of you if you take care of them. From what I`ve read in a trucking magasine, it looks like the new XF / XG range are king of the hill in terms of fuel efficiency too (some of our customers have apparantly reported managing about 22L/100km while fully loaded). Also, DAF uses ZF gearboxes. The old AStronic units weren`t the fastest or smoothest shifting boxes, but they were vary reliable. The newer Traxon boxes that came with the MY17 facelift is more efficient, but reliability hasn`b been as good. Here`s hoping revisions have been made for the current version of traxons on these new trucks, so that they can ne as reliable as the AS tronic was.
    In terms of tech in these things, I think (and this is my opinion / view of things) that it`s down to both the safety standards that really require alot of advanced gadgets, the fact that drivers are hard to come by, so the promise of a new truck with alot of toys will entice many drivers, and also the fact that many companies will want modern design to show that they`re doing well and can afford modern vehicles.
    As for why euro trucks are so much more modern than american trucks: it`s true that eu truck design seems to have kept up fairly well with cars, while US has lagged behind a bit, but US trucks have cought up alot in the last few years with stuff like newer Peterbilts and Kenworths also using alot of the same tech. It`s also worth remembering that just like Kenworth and Peterbilt, DAF is also owned by PACCAR, and also uses the same PACCAR engines (so the eu equivalent to those brands) and one can safely assume that the tech on the new DAF range will also come state side, if it isn`t already there...
    As a small nugget of info regarding the XG, the interior livable space is 12 square meters, and the inside is over 2m tall (I wan`t to say 2.2m, but I might be misremembering)

      Most of theuk regs are not in regaurd to cab or sleeper sizes just the overall hight of the cab a an overall length of tractor and trailerIn the UK use 16 ft as a guide hiefgth and you wont go far wrong that will get you under 99% of motorway bridges with no problem

      22L/100km? That's insane!
      I'm running a Detroit DD16 (admittedly at 63,500kg and a Super-B) and I'm pretty impressed with myself for averaging 58L/100km!!!

The magazine i mentioned managed 26.3l/100km, over an 800km route including a large section of vary mountainous road, so that`s an average over a long distance with many different driving conditions. Many of our customers do trips on mostly flat highway routes, at 85-90 kmh (50-55ish mph), so 22l/100km is doable in those conditions, with these trucks atleast
      Also, I should mention the configuration they tested in the magazine I keep mentioning was a 480hp XG, so a 530hp version would probably do slightly worse, but the XF with the smaller mx11 would probably do even better

    I work at the DAF factory in Belgium and your video and commentary gives me pleasure in the work i do there. I work at end of the cabine line and install the steps, doors, front grill and lots of other stuff, i can enjoy that interior every day @ work and i can tell you its really that impressive especially the space and the chairs/bed. grts from Belgium and hope you can enjoy one up close soon ;)

    I remember an episode of Ice road truckers where someone used to American trucks got to drive a Volvo. He was blown away. It was well insulated so he didn't have to freeze, it had a tv and dvd player, microwave oven, fridge, comfortable seats, etc.

      You couldn't even sell a truck in Europe if the doors leaked. Over here, that's standard. I know friends in the Maritimes on the east coast of Canada that buy a new truck and thre very first thing they do is put a bead of silicone around the windshield to stop the sea coming in! On a $200,000 truck! That's acceptable in north America, in 2022. 🤷‍♂️

      These trucks (europeans), are pretty much perfect for extreme cold wheather. The engine is right below the cab over so you got all the heat of it and the engine is really well protected from ice, salt, cold and all kinds of stuff.

      @@wwtrkr3189 At times, it is the other way around. A truck driver here in Germany told me of a buddy who bought a German-made luxury RV worth ~500,000 Euros.
      After 2 weeks of ownership he already collected a small bucket full of bolts. Due to vehicle movement they came loose and fell on the floor.
      So much for German quality....

    First, I was also a trucker a few years ago.
    The mirror obscures the view extremely.
    You can hide a whole truck behind the normal mirror.
    And the camera can follow the trailer in the curve, so that you don't look at the trailer but next to the truck.
    The best thing is that the cameras have night vision.

    As a DAF tech, the mirrors are actually are pretty damn reliable. The previous gen used the corner eye as an option and failures were very very rare. Drivers driving their mirrors off is a lot more common. The new cameras also have infrared vision so you can see crazy good at night. The screens can irritate your eyes though, even more so if you drive in areas where the light goes on and off often.
    The NGD generation sells crazy well, even though they still have some teething problems.
    The XF is the smallest full size truck, the XG is slightly longer and taller and the XG+ is a bit taller than the XG. The windscreen on the XF is also lower than the XG/XG+, you can see this in how the grille is shorter.
    All EU semi's come with air seats as standard (at least the drivers seat) and they've been like that for decades.
    The dashboard is nearly identical to current BMW dashboards.

      We have a few MAN buses with camera mirrors where i work and my two complaints is that its harder to distinguish street lights and vechicle lights.
      You also dont see anything if you are looking back into a tunnel or dark area when the vehicle is not in that dar.

      As a driver, the camera mirrors are horrendous. There's literally no perception of depth when overtaking on a motorway, the automatic adjustment when reversing is distracting and the low light visibility at night is just awful. It's a gimmick and only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

    I worked for a transport company with a few hundred trucks, the first trucks in our fleet to come with digital mirrors were the Mercedes, about a dozen of them, drivers absolutely ridiculed them, protested to drive on those trucks. However when after two or three weeks they would switch back to 'normal' mirrors, then they would realize what digital mirrors can do. Most loved features were how the camera followed your trailer when turning while reversing and the light level.

      Our company was given free mirrorless option even before these trucks went to market as we had 600 trucks and they all were MB and we were asked to provide feedback from the drivers. Needless to say, drivers literally hated every second of it. I'm not sure how these trucks are today, but the first iteration lacked NV cameras, there were issues with feedback and all sorts of things that just stopped working.

    I've been related to DAF all my live . My father was a blacksmith at the first plant of DAF , way back in the 40's .He had to bend the leafspring straps by heating them up . I have driven allmost every type of DAF in my 38 year career . I've seen the cabines growing from no space to mega space . I went from a non-synconised gearbox in the 70's to a fully automatic in 2003 . The DAF cabine is like an F16 cockpit : build around the user , for the user . Once I stopped at a truckstop and some engeneers from DAF came to me with questions , how I would see my cab . DAF stands for : van Doorne's Automobiel Fabriek and is situated in Eindhoven , in the South of the Netherlands . DAF is a member of the Paccar group , so maybe you'll see on in America somethimes

      My mother was from Eindhoven and she too told me of the Van Doorns.
      DAF, for those who don't know, actually stands for van Doorns Aanhanger Fabriek.
      Doorns Trailer Factory in English. They started out making trailers and progressed to trucks at a later stage.
      I worked there 2011-2012 in their Eindhoven diesel engine manufacturing plant. Very impressive place to work for an engineer

      Some small DAF models are in the US as Kenworth and Peterbilt both I believe.
      I'm from Eindhoven but not a big DAF fan 😬 . The old XF was just a updated 95. Tededem Tededem 🙈

      Yes it's built around the driver so much you don't even have room for your left foot and your knees. I refuse to work with DAF, it's very uncomfortable. The gearbox is painfully slow, the engine is sluggish, the ACC is primitive. The new model is a piece of shit as well.

    Every truck in Europe has ''air seats' for over 20+ years, it's not new over here....tilt steer also for a very long time, it;s all standard over here and the most of what you see in the euro trucks like the curtains, the remote at the bed....it's a lot more modern than the trucks in the usa.

      Probably the regulations concerning labor standards are a lot stricter here. My boss had to buy me an ergonomic chair when I started working from home as well. That wouldn't happen in the US.

    if you ever find yourself in Washington State during April.
    the Mt Vernon Paccar Test center holds an open day around that time of year, and they pretty much always have a DAF truck on display there. so they will probably have an XG or XG+ there now. there is a couple of very old youtube videos of the place that shows the DAF XF105 when it was brand new around 2007.

    The FH16 I drove between Oslo Norway and Møre Norway with fruits up and fresh fish back down was like driving a car. The feeling of moving a 50 tonn machine with just one hand and pressing the gass with my big toe alone. No hassle, pure comfort, enjoying every bit of the ride each time.

    I used to drive the DAF XF 105.510 with the Super Space Cab back then and it was huge. I could even stand upright in the cab and i am about 202cm (6 feet 5 or 6 i guess?). It was really comfortable and impressing and if DAF has improved the interiour, it is even more impressing. Great video!

    I think it's fair for the truckers to have a nice cab, considering the ammount of time they spend in there. Just think about how much stuff in your bedroom was delivered with a truck; probably most of what you own is delivered with a truck. It's an important job

      I always like to take the most simple object and look at how much trucks its been on.
      A lead pencil.
      The graphite gets mined, transported by dump truck to a hopper, then by train to a refinery, then by a truck to a factory that makes graphite rods of all shapes and sizes.
      The wood, gets cut, goes on a truck to a storage yard, then on a truck to the lumber mill.
      Then both the processed wood and graphite rods need to go on a truck to a pencil factory, which then by truck sends pencils to distribution centers, which send the pencils with smaller trucks to stores where you buy them.
      Every pencil you’ve ever held has been on like 8 different trucks.

    I liked the radio stations you saw on the display. When you're dutch you recognize them, when you're a foreigner you would think it's random numbers and made up words. Well, it's not, these are all local and national radio stations here in the Netherlands.

    In the 80's, during my studies, I was a truck driver in NL. Mainly in DAF 2800, 3300 and 3600, and also the first version of the DAF 95. The company also owned Volvo's F10 and F12, but I didn't like these. Was more a fan of the more simple and very reliable DAF. My most favorite was the 3600 with the 1160 DKZE engine. I still have my truck license, would really like to drive an XG once!

    I used to drive long haul out of western Canada and I can say with certainty that if those cameras have washers on them they will blow physical mirrors out of the water. The big mirrors hanging off the side of the truck catch everything coming off the road to the point where they become useless. I'd pull over before going into towns to clean off the mirrors so I didn't drive over anyone, and on a few occasions had to use my lighter to melt the ice off them after going through a storm on the Coquahala (Highway through Hell) and the Rogers Pass. They also create a lot of drag and wind noise, so yeah the cams get a 👍👍

      Most euro trucks have heated mirrors and they work very well at keeping ice and water spray away. They just need regular cleaning. I usually just keep a spraybottle and paper in the cab.

      Thats an interesting perspective. I work for a big logistics and transport company in Europe, and when these mirror cameras started showing up (me personally saw this first on Mercedes trucks), the drivers complained a lot about it. Many say at least for the main mirrors they still prefer traditional ones. Also must point out the complains came mostly from smaller cabins. I think on rainy days the water spray gets to them easier.

      A buddy of mine recently got hold of the new Scania with cameras instead of mirrors. He hated them, simply because they only worked in dry conditions and good light. There's still some development that needs to be done on those, but it'll come. That's a couple of big old bricks we're pushing through the air, especially on Freightliners and Volvos so as air management and fuel efficiency become more and more important to the companies buying these machines, the technology will come. It's going to be another 15 years or more before they're commonplace in north America, but by the time we catch up, the R&D will have made them usable, even across the Coquahalla in January.

    @IWrocker If you like this DAF truck, you should look up the DAF Turbo Twin trucks, used by team De Rooij to race in the Dakar rally in the 80's.
    If you think group B in the 80's was wild, think again 😄

      There's a video clip of Jan de Rooij's Turbo Twin overtaking Ari Vattanen in his Peugot 405 at about 200km/h in the desert. It's absolutely, fucking, insane. Unfortunately, shortly after that epic event, the 2nd Turbo Twin crashed, leading to the death of one crew member and the severe injuring of 2 others. It was the end of the Turbo Twins.

    Our company was selected by DAF for a "the field test" . A colleague drove it for a few months before it officialy was launced. Overall: very satisfied but in driving position a little to low ( before docking you have to activate your air suspension).

    I used to do security work for an air cargo terminal in Norway. We did full security sweeps on the trucks arriving with goods. The truckers love their vehicles, often taking their shoes off when entering their truck. Even in decade old trucks, you could probably perform surgery inside the cab, because the truckers keep their working space so clean. All European trucks are awesome, but the V8 Scanias has a sweet spot in my heart. The Scanias were the trucks who had more custom work done to them, with some interiors being quilted leather from top to bottom. And then the V8 diesel sound ❤

    as a truck driver, I prefer the digital mirrors, the ekstra distance measurements on screen helps alot with navigating, much easier to keep clean compared to mirrors during winter weather

    The concerns about the glitchiness are fair and absolutely something we need to look out for when driving these newer trucks with the digital vision system. This also allows the truck to navigate tighter streets and fit into tighter spaces

    If you have ever driven a truck in the rain, you will appreciate the digital mirrors. With a physical mirror, you are more or less blinded in a heavy rainstorm

    About the "weird" color...My car has about the same color, I actually vinyl wrapped it and chose it specifically. I call it "high-vis metallic".. the real color name is usually something like "yellow/lemon metallic" I love how it looks, and the fact its very visible is a plus for safety/visibility and when lapping the nurburgring as I do sometimes.

      Lime Yellow colored cars have been involved in fewest accidents (%) due to higher visibility. 2nd are white cars.

    Having driven both American and European trucks in Australia they both have their pros and cons. The Euro trucks are by far more comfortable and much quieter than their American counterparts, however American trucks are generally a no nonsense tough truck that is well up to any task. I prefer the Euro trucks for line haul highway work and the American trucks for remote outback work.

    Mat from Carwow just posted a video reviewing the two top of the range Volvo diesel and electric trucks. He explains everything about the exterior, interior, engine/motor and he even did two 0-56mph (they're limited to that speed in the UK) runs, one with only the tractor and another with a 44 ton trailer. I think you'd really like to watch that one, Ian. 🙂

    I'd have to test drive the flat screen mirrors to see. The comments are revealing lots of advantages such as clearance, ability to zoom, light level adjust. I was getting good at backing up into dark areas on rainy nights squinting at whatever gave me any reference point. Having the option to flood light the reverse lights would be good too, especially if you're going into a dock or unload area.

      I am curious if the screens require me to wear my reading glasses,after all they will be just about 2 1/2 ft away from my face,with ‘old school mirrors’ I don’t have that problem....

      @@henktulp4400 Still not had a go with mirror cams, but this is something a friend of mine found, the passenger side mirror was fine, but the drivers side mirror was too close for his eyesight.

      And hey!!!....you see?.... I know my eyes can see clearly in ‘real’ mirrors because my eyes’ focuses isn’t on the mirrors’ glass.... it is on the object 5/10/30/100 metres AWAY from the mirror....
      Hence my hesitation agains cam mirrors....
      Surely in (near-) future cam mirrors will develop.... adjusting the picture to conditions/circumstances(and the age of the driver???... or the specs of his eyes??!!.... or his glasses???)
      One problem I think many drivers will agree with.... in some places you’ld need 3 pairs of eyes to drive safely.... with full size semi combination in crowded centres of towns.... scooters,pedestrians,cyclists... ALL IN A HURRY!!!!!.....
      Desastrous accidents are looming.... not because a truck is speeding.... but because many are around but unaware of the dangers involved with HGV in the centre.... while the HGV-driver has only two eyes....
      I am confident in the developments of Swedish Road Safety Investigators.... they have already completed some awesome new techniques to prevent acvcidents....
      But I hope they will not only look at Scandinavian countries.... I am pretty sure if they would look at (for example-) Dutch traffic they’ld realise the Scandinavian trucks face extreme traffic density there compaired to where they are used to....
      Anything... just anything to prevent gruesome accidents because a cyclist or pedestrian gets hit...or worse.... by a lorry.... driven by a driver that tries to do his job safely.... but finds him/her-self overwhelmed by the shear amount of mobvements around him....

    4:03 Physical mirrors will always be superior in terms of clarity, offering basically "infinite resolution", but I do appreciate the options and ease of use that these cameras can provide for all-around visibility - especially with large trucks and trailers.

    I've got a new Toyota Hilux 2021 model and it has adaptive cruise control, braking sensors and lane guidance to keep you in the right place, if you cross a white line without indicating the vehicle will automatically make minute adjustments to the steering wheel to keep you in your lane. European trucks had all this and more five years ago! You will generally find the transport industry has technological gadgets way before they enter main vehicle manufacture. Great vid, thanks!

    My Daf has been free from engine problems for 850000kms. And it still is as strong as when it was new and it wants only a litre of oil every 30000kms. :) the other brands i have driven before has been alot more expensive to maintain :)

    I'm going to weigh in with my limited expertise as a former trucker in the UK. The amazing things you see in this cabs is almost standard in most models these days. 40 gauges for all kinds of air and oil pressure and electric monotering is very tiring over a 15 hour workday, you want to keep the dash simple and informative. Electronics can monitor when these things are within parameters and just flash up a warning when they aren't. Video monitoing systems are very useful, for one they make the truck narrower and make use of the dead space left by the a pillar without increasing the dead angle in the view. Daf is owned by the Paccar company ( Peterbuilt and Kenworth) so their engines will be american ones adapted for 'euro 6' standards, maybe thats where the dislike comes from. The ones I drove have always been perfectly capable. Lastly, the controls from the bunk are not luxury, they are needed. If you have to spend 4 or 5 nights back to back sleeping in a cab you want to be able to stay in that bunk and not have to get out every time you do something. The swivelling DRIVERS chair is new to me and I think in combination with the slide out table is just perfect.

      No, the engines are built in the Netherlands, pistons and conectingrods are from kolben Smit in Germany. Cabs and axles are built in Belgium in a daf plant. In the Netherlands they assemble everything.

    As a mechanic for DAF I can’t lie the xg and xg + are really nice wagons and I would rank them quite high compared to other brands. Them xgs are massive im 5 foot 11 and stand tall w no problem. The design is so simple and easy to use whether driver or tech. The engine seems to run good when I take them for test runs too when doing diagnosis. I don’t drive them ovb but if I did I wouldn’t be complaining driving them. The xfs have been good wagons for a while it’s a fresh breath of air that they got these in too. Getting plenty of them in my garage now and even different configurations such as the recovery trucks to the 6x2 xd

    The camera rear/side view systems make a lot of sense because they're effectively reducing direct viewing obstructions (the viewing area consumend by mandatory mirrors from driver's perspective is insane!) and thereby offering better view from the driver's seat location to the A-Pillars left and right. If you've ever driven a truck with such technology in dense european city traffic, you'll know what I mean...

      I hate them, even if they are working perfectly you can't move you head relative to the mirror to get a better view when manoeuvring in tight spaces and they don't deal with poor weather or bright lights at night well. Probably ok if all you do is trunk up and down the motorways, but small industrial estates packed tight with stupidly parked cars or located down small lanes show up their weaknesses.

      @@popuptoaster There is a joystick that you can use to change camera's angle. You dont have to move your body to check everything. I can understand that you don't like them, you can't teach old dogs new tricks but these technologies came to stay and they will get better and better every year. I remember back in 70's my father's truck had only one mirror at each side, not even a wide angle mirror. They weren't powered, so you had to get up your seat, climb over the engine cover to change the angle of your pasenger mirror. Things changed so much since then, but if you prefer the old style nobody can change your mind.

      @@chrishar110 I don't want to farting around with a little joystick while I'm spinning the wheel trying to get through gaps without taking off someone else's mirrors, yeah I'm an old dog, but I'm also an ex IT worker, who builds his own computers, flies drones and is happy messing with car electronics so i have no issue with gadgets or new inventions.
      It's not new technology I hate, it's pointless technology that makes your life harder and an extra couple of MPG and a better view at roundabouts is not worth the disadvantages that come with that.
      I also hate radar cruise control that slows you down when you are going PAST another truck, lane departure warnings that go off all the time on narrow roads as you have to cross the white lines and the collision warnings that yell at you because of parked cars, spend more time turning things off when you start a lorry these days than you do driving it.

    I drive a 2015 Renault C 8x4, it does truly drive just like a car. Smooth and the air seat does help a lot when it comes to bumpy surfaces as I regularly drive on building sites and off-road.

    Our company had a XG+ Demo Model for a week, i've drove it for a day to see how it was, and i must admit... it's a pretty darn comfortable truck to drive with...
    Its quiet, with our work it can reach a fuelconsumption of 1 out of 4.8/5, with the Camerasystem you can see so many blindspots you normally cant see, but i agree with you, i want Classic Mirrors, its still allot more comfortable for me since technology fails & you are done.
    Suspension is supersoft, The transmission you barely notice, it rides like a absolute beauty, the matras is absolutely huge, the turning Chairs are a absolute A+ Option they sell, and as a 1.97m tall guy, i can fully stand in it without hitting my head.
    I normally drive a Scania NGS R450, but if my boss would consider buying a XG or XG+ and would ask me to trade, i would absolutely do it!

    My uncle was a truck driver for a decade or so until he injured his back and could no longer sustain a sitting position for more than an hour or so. He used to drive a Jelcz 315 (this was late 1980s). Even during that time, and as basic as that truck was, I thought trucking was the coolest thing ever. Now looking at this DAF XG+, and the equipment available on the newest generation of trucks, it's like comparing the Titanic against the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D.

    In one word a magnificent truck, setting new standards when ik comes to comfort, space and fuel consumption. And not in the last place: a MEGA sales hit so far, with over 50.000 sold within the first year and bringing the brand tot 2nd place in the market. One remark in my opinion: on top of the 530hp it needs a stronger powered engine of around 600hp. By the way did you american vieuwers know that the same MX engines of this series are being built into the US Paccar brands as well?

      DAF have been market leader in the UK for the last 26 years and that is in all segments i think ..It would definetely help sales if they did a as you say 600hp engine .But as a lad from DAF once said to me they don't need the hp as they have the torque which matter ..

    You seemed surprised by a few things that's been a thing for a very long time already. Air suspension on seats for example, same with the bed being able to raise the upper part. I do the same in the 2016 volvo I usually drive (not electric in that one though). Those climate controls are also present. Even my company's older manual volvo from early 2000's has those controls by the bed. Not a new thing. That's not to say that this DAF looks very good! I'd love to drive one :D oh, and you also always seem surprised with them having a fridge, also a thing in basically every truck out there, unless it's a short distance city cab spec. That swivel seat was very surprising though! Not common in trucks, very cool. Would love to have that.

    There is nothing worse than being stuck with a daf on long haul. The interior may look nice but it really does not take long for bits to fall off or stop working.

      Finally, a commenter that actually drives one. The fit and finish on mine is shit. Cross threaded screws everywhere, rubber seals that don't quite fit. The wind noise from the roof hatch is horrendous. The auto gearbox is programmed atrociously. I could go on. The dealer doesn't give a shit.

      Constant electrical faults, stupidly annoying faults bell\ buzzer noise that makes you feel like taking a hammer to the dash board. collision/ adaptive cruise control that slams on the brakes for the shadow of a motorway flyover.
      bloody horrible things.

    the digital mirrors are in one point better than any regular physical mirrors... they show a clean picture in a way better field of view and you actually can (depending on the model) have active "mirrors" that move a bit with the turns you make so you see if your trailer axles are close to the curbs or not (and of course they got a good visibility in the night as well, better than on standard mirrors that especially now in wet and cold weather might be a bit dirty as well)

    Dutch design is phenomenal... I haven't even got a driver's license, but I recognize the sophistication. Bear in mind that the Netherlands highways, especially the west, are one of Europe's main transport hubs. The amount of trucks hauling cargo from Rotterdam to Antwerp and vice versa is mind boggling. Cause those two ports supply the lion's share of Europe... We don't call them "gateways to Europe" just because it sounds cool.

    I have driven trucks from 2000 til now.
    My first truck was A Mercedes Benz SK powerliner 1935 eurocab Box car witch box trailer, from 1992
    This was with Scandinavia pack, more insulation and better parking heater, we could stay overnight at -20°C with the engine shut off.
    We had airsuspention seats for driver and passenger.
    Cruise Control and Airconditioning.
    And heated seats en outside mirrors as well.

    The main advantage of the camera over the mirror I feel is like when it rains, rain comes down the windows making it much harder to look at the mirrors, which isn't really a problem with the cameras. However cameras are much more complicated than a simple mirror and much more expensive to maintain and repair. Practicality Id chose cameras for aesthetics I'd choose mirrors

      @@WilliamStevens007 Therefor the risk of loosing or damaging a mirror is bigger then loosing a camera. The other thing is that it improves the aerodynamics dramatically. The convential mirrors are so big, they kill the aerodynamics and also raise fuelconsumption.

      @@bertnl530 I don't pay for the fuel so not my concern, Yes and my point being the mirrors are cheaper to replace than a stalk which may I remind you if you did knock one off thats the truck undrivable. At least with mirrors even if smashed you can still see with them. And I would love to know how much fuel they save, And don't forget by the time a driver has added spotlight bars and all the other crap then your not saving anything.

      Not sure about this specific DAF, but many trucks with mirror cameras have a problem in bad weather where the lens gets dirty really fast. Heating simply makes the dirt dry onto the lens.

      @@WilliamStevens007 All your arguments are in fact the arguments which fleetowners use to make their decissions. With Dieselprices up to 2 Euro a liter and consumption of roundabout 30-33 L/100 km every 100 m extra you get from a liter is an improvement. What a driver adds to his truck is first and only what the fleetowner allows him. Some companies are easy on it, some others forbid it. In my village there is a transport company doing heavy distribution, supermarkets, DIY markets, reefer work and beveragework. All their new vehicles have mirrorcams. I think their current fleet is 300-400 trucks. trailers and B trains, so there must be something which make it attractive.

    If you want to try and see how it feel to drive both a European truck and American truck, you can always try some games. I would suggest Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, both by the company SCS Software. They may not be a perfect 1:1 representation of real life, but they surely give a good idea how it is to drive a truck. And both games have wide range of trucks to choose from (including DAF new generation in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

    I started my trucking career nearly 20 years ago, in the UK, then 3 years in New Zealand before I moved to Canada in 2010.
    Coming here was like stepping back in time. The north American trucking industry is about 15-20 years behind Europe, so you are correct in your suppositions. A lot of that is to do with price. Americans simply refuse to pay for quality and development and there is extreme resistance to moving forward technologically speaking. It's a very short term viewpoint but gradually the market is coming around. Large companies, like Swift, for example, are finally doing the sums and realizing that the initial investment will pay for itself in the long term with lower fuel costs, longer service intervals and improved safety. As emission regulation and rising fuel costs become more and more apparent over here, you will see more of what is already standard in Europe, making its way across the Atlantic.
    Well done for actually taking notice of the industry over there. You are looking at the future. The average American trucker is a neanderthal, regressive and extremely resistant to change. The attitude of "but this is the way we've always done it" is the curse of the industry (along with ego and racism) but with the current financial climate, the influx of international migrants to the industry and the move to large volume, low price logistics companies will eventually see those unwilling to change, put to pasture.
    My current ride is a 2021 Western Star. A ginormous monster of a machine, with a full 72" sleeper. The aero actually directs the wind around and over the cab in specifically designed paths and it's quiet, comfortable, refined and it goes around corners. Don't get me wrong, I love my own 2003 Peterbilt that I use for a winter contract. It has character, it looks great and its simple enough that I can work on it and fix it roadside when I need to but the highest compliment I can pay thre Western Star, is that it's (finally) as good as the Volvos I was driving back in 2007.
    A friend of mine was recently showing me videos and pictures of the new Scania he'd got his hands on. That thing's a damn spaceship! 😂

    DAF is the Dutch truck brand (former also a car brand) wich has a long reputation, now working together with VDL, former with Den Oudsten, making (city) busses as well.. Former these busses where engined with DAF engines.. Due a joint venture with American brand PACCAR, which has influence at some truck brands in the USA as well, the engines are now days from Cummins, in Europe with Europe modifications, under licence by VDL.. The engines are 6 cilinder turbo diesel engines..
    There where once plans to made a DAF with a V8 engine, but keep it by a 6 cilinder diesel engine.. A V8 engine has much higher costs with it.. The reliability of these engines are sometimes a point of discussion..
    The former own build 6 cilinder DAF engines seems, or meant to be better..
    The nowdays DAF is looking good 👍 so far... There are also plans of these DAF trucks developed as an hydrogen version and a full electric version, due the worldwide energy transition.. That will be the future development of all European truck brands.. Let us see what that will bring in the near future..

      @@norb0254 ..The car division of DAF went to Volvo.. The last produced model of Volvo in Born, The Netherlands, is the Volvo S40 and V40 until 2005.. All models above 2005 are been produced in Sweden, until this day...
      In Born, The Netherlands, is VDL now prodc8ng cars for BMW, the X1 and several models of the Mini Cooper..
      About electric trucks here in Europe..: They will be produced by several truck brands.. Likely for short distance distribution between cities and logistic distribution centers..
      For longer distanced this will be a problem, due the restricted action radius..
      Hydrogen trucks will also will bring to the market here in Europe.. Several truck brands testing already several models..
      It could be interesting for the longer distances, due the zero emissions norm..
      The problem is, to acquire the same amount of fuel as a regular diesel truck, hydrogen has to be very much compressed under high pressure, like 400 bars.. Still Hydrogen is not a stabile fuel yet.. Also safety needs to be attended due refueling.. Also the action radius of these trucks are still limited..
      Tests and development for approval are still undergoing and could take quite some time..
      Meanwhile diesel trucks will still being produced, with everytime a new norm.. In Europe is now Euro 6..
      Tesla would like also bring an electric truck on the market.. Development is still going.. A test truck is already made and in use as test truck..
      Who knows what the future will bring and if it is durable..

      The oldest DAF trucks do have a static diesel engine without a turbocharger..
      The DAF 95 and the DAF 65, 75 and 85 trucks where the last trucks with an own build DAF turbocharged diesel engine..

      @@maurice477085 The inital MX engine was an Eindhoven product from what i was told ,i don't know about the MX11 though..The original built DAF engines where Leyland licensed ...Although Leyland and Eindhoven don't really get on ,they do have a long shared history...They both like to do things their own way ,though i think PACCAR may have sorted that issue ..Ie on euro 4/5 the VIC from a LF (leyland designed ) was not compatable with a XF CF ,it was the same with the headlamps,looked the same but not compatable ...The best one was going back to the CF 65 at 18tonnes the LF55 had a better carrying capacity ,due to the LFs lighter chassis ,,So Eindhoven took the LF chassis great idea ...But you then had a MK1 and MK 2 version of the 65 so to speak ,, How to identify MK2 had LF tail lights ,but used the steering resovoir from the MK1 and the MK 2 brakes where plumbed up the Leyland way ( i always get this bit wrong lol) Leyland had the lead to the front and Eindhoven to the rear ..So the MK1 had the lead to the rear and MK2 had it to the front ,so basically the footbrake valve was plumbed up differently

We have a customer who will be trialing hydrogen for DAF as DAF always do..BMW ,MINI are moving production of the electric mini to china ..I have been fortunate to have been able to visit both Eindhoven and Leyland..So at Eindhoven you get the history about Wim and Hub Van Doorne ,very interesting ..With the LF being a renault can,it will be interesting to see how Leyland update it to blend in with the New Generation ..They can't mess with the basic cab structure only the grill and corner panels externally ,and the DIP panel internally ..It is such a good seller is it worth doing their own cab ???

    Physical mirrors? In Europe with so many bikes (even more in the Netherlands where DAF is situated) and pedestrians underway? In narrow streets it is sometimes chellanging enough to fit between other cars, you probably would he happy to have no physical mirrors.

    Have a friend here in sweden who drives a volvo, and yes, those beds are almost more comfy than the one I have at home, the perfect softness, and it's way bigger than it looks both bed and cab overall

    I've seen the digital mirrors in person and they seemed better in every way to me. Easily and quickly adjustable, greater field of view, don't fog, don't get dirty and are WAY better in low light. And I think they should improve the drag a bit, as well.
    Now, I'm not a trucker, take this for what it is. But the guy giving me the lift said the first time he was sceptic... for about 5 minutes. And now just wishes he already had them in every truck of the fleet (which most don't and won't have for a looong time 😅).

    As a former trucker here in Europe, the more ways to see the better. I don't care if it's a mirror or a screen. If it works it works, and we already used backup cameras for a long long time, they work.
    So rules are as follows, you can not back up without a spotter. That is the law. Now do you have a helper at hand at all times? Nope, so you break the law every day and so we are back to, whatever works.. :)
    Glad you're interested in these Euro trucks! I had Scania and Volvo for the most, but has also driven MAN, Renault and Mercedes. Never driven a DAF as far as I recall.

    I'm currently learning to drive a truck. The digital mirrors help a ton in visability. The conventional mirrors block a lot of vision front left and right

      I move my head from side to side when going into roundabouts to make sure a car isn't hiding behind the mirrors.

    Hey Mate I got Daf XF480 2019 now driving it first week after driving MB Actros 2014. And its a great comfy truck! And I am a rookie driver, only 6 weeks trucking. I guess I am lucky guy!!

    Got to drive a Mercedes Actros with digital mirrors last year. Loved them instantaneous. Far superior. Especially in difficult light conditions.

    I'm Dutch and at the end of the 90's when I was around 10 years old I went on a truck ride through germany with the boyfriend of my moms best friend. But it was during a school day so my mom called me in sick!😂 But even back then... it was a huge DAF!!! And even back then they already had those very fancy seats with shock absorbing systems. It wasn't what I expected.... You think a truck is gonna be a little less rough than a car ride at first but it wasn't... it was even way better! It was more like a gentle boat ride with those seats!! 😂 They are the best seats I ever sat in! Extremely comfortable. And that guy was also the owner of the truck so this was a DAF with fancy airbrush painting on the outside with a wolf. Very soft interior.. neon lights.... And he even let me take a corner in Germany! A 10 year old kid! But surprisingly it was very easy to steer! My mom on the other hand wasn't very happy to hear that he let me steer such a big truck.😂 But to be honest... I listened very well to his instructions and he was also very calm and clear so it went perfect🤷 A little slower than if he would steer but so easy to do.

    morning, i spent most of my working life as a trucker, inc 25 years on european work, some trips lasting up to 3 months, i drove volvo fh12, iveco eurostar and eurotech my favourite was the daf 95 and 105 space cabs, it had the biggest interior, largest bunk, and was just an all round good tool, at the end of the day thats what a truck is, a tool to get the job done....the daf pulled well, averaged 10-11 mpg when fully freighted, maybe not as good as some other marques but to me the advantages out weighed the disadvantages, driver comfort was the most important thing to me... dont know how we coped in the old days, a million gear changes every day, sunning to spain or italy with no aircon, cruise control, abs, under powered... theres no comparison with trucks of today, but having retired i must say it would be nice to drive a new one, just to see the difference in tech since i retired 4 years ago... great channei man, keep it up, peace Tim

      And nowday Tim drivers are .....well not drivers ...They drive all day get back to their yard and this is no word of a lie phone in a breakdown for a missing wheel nut pointer ,They refuse to drive it to the workshop as they deem it unsafe...So their company end up paying over £200 for a wheel nut pointer ..No doubt they complain about the bill..but tough .They couldn't do have the things you would /could do ,,They won't change bulbs now ,again phone in breakdowns

      @@norb0254 yeah, b4 i retired we had kids just passed their test, they expected a brand new truck, 9 till 5 work and a fortune in pay, as soon as they were told they'd drive what they were given might be starting at 1am and be expected to night out 4 or 5 days a week , usual truck driving routine, they didnt want to know....they wouldnt have survived 5 minutes back in the 80's and 90's when the companies could get away with expecting you to run bent, if you wanted to work you did what you were told, if i didnt do it there was always someone else who would... its a different world out there now....

You could count on 1 hand trucks with aircon ,unlike today 99% of trucks have it and they refuse to drive them unless the apple car play works ..and god help if the USB port is broken..It is a truck a tool to do a job drive it and do the job ,all these extras are just that extras if they work fine ,if they don't get it fixed at its next service

    Daf's are a Nice rig, Good to drive Quiet and economical. And at the end of the day you can sleep well in them. And the motor is the same reliable unit powering KWs and Peterbuilts. Having driven KWs and Pete's with both Cats and Cummins. The Dafs are in a class of their own.

    Hi I work as a hgv driver and I drive the daf xg + with the digital cameras . The cameras took me about 30 minutes to get the hang of . Now it's like they were always there as far as power this truck can pull no problem. The older daf trucks were so so not this xg+ it just pulls. I am a tramper away for a week at a time and this is a complete comfortable moter to live in an work. My boss got all the extras that are available as he was one of the first to order this so it is car like to drive honestly I can't find any fault with this tractor it is really advanced. I have all ready done 100000 km in it happy days

    I drove a (european)truck for the first time a few months ago. I can say it is actually easier than driving a car. Yes it is a larger mass you are moving and overall larger vehicle but once you get used to it, it is very easy. And it was my first time ever driving anything larger than a car.

    I drive a 2022 Peterbilt 579, the only thing this has that mine doesn't is the digital mirrors. Oh, and I can't control my stereo from the sleeper. Things I have in addition (at least they weren't mentioned in the video): bunk heater, EPU to run ac so I don't have to idle overnight, an additional 3' of sleeper space, refrigerator, closet, tons more storage, inverter to supply 110 for cooking devices etc,
    The DAF looks like a nice truck, the maneuverability of cab overs is great, though the short wheel base makes a bumpier ride. Interesting to see

    I have been driving an XG now for over a year. The comfort level is better than any truck I have ever driven, the bunk is more comfortable than my own bed. It’s a joy to drive but the cameras took some getting used to. My biggest complaint as someone who is out all week is that there is no 24 volt socket in the cab. The drive is excellent and the visibility is amazing with no mirrors that can sometimes hide a motorcycle or small car at a junction.
