Dane's comment about emotions is so real. We have more anxiety today because our anxiety is meant for survival. We used to get anxiety cus we were being stalked by a tiger. We would see the tiger disappear and our anxiety would go away. Today we get anxious about things that don't go away, things that we can't visually see.

It also makes it worse because anxiety and stress actually slows your metabolism. Which if you're trying to lose weight to be healthier (if it's healthier for you to do so) it makes it all the more difficult. Not to mention those of us who stress eat :(

@lit_springles_4life492 Anxiety can actually raise your metabolism temporarily because of the adrenaline. Sometimes I feel like my anxiety keeps me skinny tbh. But cortisol is a stress hormone linked with weight gain and abdominal fat so I bet it's dependent on your body chemistry and multiple other factors. It's never quite cut and dry it seems.

I get them too. I've never really been a big breakfast eater, so I rely on meal shakes in the morning. Quick way to knock that nausea in the bud.

I was 300 pounds at my heaviest, and I used to drink 16+ sodas everyday and always woke up in the mornings feeling like crap and sluggish because of it. Unfortunately I had some set backs needing to get a knee replacement due to bone cancer and a couple more surgeries that left me immobile for about a year and a half and I started gaining weight again. Luckily after about almost two years of PT/Rehab I've kicked my soda habit and moved onto Water/Carbonated Water and eating more veggies and fruit and walking/jogging/running I'm now down to 203 pounds. My goal has always been 180 pounds so hopefully I can do it over the summer.
I am so very proud of you. Sugar is a hard drug to kick. It is ok to have a soda every once in a while. I still do it, but I certainly don't keep it in my house, and I only have 1 mini can every few weeks, if that.
You got this buddy! Pop makes me feel bad too! I like the zero sugar gatorade packets for water but i’ve heard that the fake sugar is just as bad.
@@sacredIotusSugar substitutes make my stomach hurt and leave a weird aftertaste in my mouth that lasts for about 2 days. Stevia is a good alternative because it’s natural (comes from a plant). Also, moderation is always good for most things.

Honestly I’m just really proud of him for being able to walk on his own still, my dad was half that weight and couldn’t do it on his own so props to this man for pushing himself

A lot of them don't afford it, they charge it to credit cards. Atleast that's what my uncle did. They rack up the debt, it's like any addiction. As long as they get what they want the backlash is irrelevant. I just want to clarify no judgement here, but that's how he phrased it. He's recovered now but yeah, credit card

To an extent, but some people do have faster metabolisms. I eat pretty badly but I barely gain weight.
@@rawtoast3466 exactly. Some people have faster metabolism meaning they dont gain weight easily. But everyone else with normal/slow metabolism should know that and counter it with better food or more activity. Im not saying we are all naturally supposed to be fitness models, but if you cant move on your own and you are only 30 something, maybe make some changes and dont blame anything but your own effort or lack of🤷🏼♀️
This is true to some degree, but it's only up to so much extra weight . No one's genetics gives them like 100lbs extra, all genetics does there is where and how the fat forms on the body. Overconsumption of calories is the only cause. @@rawtoast3466
When it comes to Genetics it's not just about your metabolism but things like Lupus, thyroid and other health conditions run in the family and those things can significantly affect your weight- Plus medications
Every time I've said: "I'm so hungry I feel like I'm gonna throw up!" people have treated me like I'm weird!! I'm glad this is a thing and not just me.
This is definitely a thing that happens to some of us. It normally happens when I haven't eaten for a day or two (I have ADHD and sometimes I'm just so distracted by other things I forget to eat) but then my hands and legs will get shaky, my head will hurt, and I'll get a really bad nauseous stomach ache

Swimming is also an amazing form of exercise.
I wish I had a pool again (it was an above ground we got in clearance for $250 but it lasted for like 3 summers). It was a lot easier to move like that. I have joint pain (like. I go to a rheumatologist pain) it was so nice
I wish more gyms had pools and offered like swim team training classes that you don't need to be on a team for. I used to be on the swim team in highschool but I don't have a pool and I really miss the guided exercises of being on a team, I want someone to tell me what to do
I have several chronic pain conditions and physical therapy is a big help.
A few years ago my doctor prescribed aqua-therapy (physical therapy in a heated pool) and my insurance company refused to pay for it.
They said that I could just go there for 2 appointments, have them show me what exercises to do and then I could do them at home.
I asked if they were going to pay to install the pool in my house (I don’t have a yard), and pay to have a physical therapist come by periodically to track my progress and adjust the exercises I’m doing and add more as needed.
They didn’t like that response. But when my doc appealed, they covered 4 months of aqua-therapy, so that’s something.
But I saw a lot more progress with a lot less pain doing PT in a pool over just regular PT. And both are miles better than trying to do it on my own at home, even with exercises I learned in PT.

Being poor helped me lose weight tbh. Fast food is too expensive so I'm living off produce. Water is all you really need to drink, and I've never been a fan of sugar. Since living on my own, I went from 360lbs to 290lbs and still losing, thank God.

When I was a kid, I would hide food and drinks in my room so I didn't have to go out to the kitchen to eat. I grew up in an abusive home, so I always felt like I needed to walk on eggshells outside of my room. It took years to get out of that mindset and work through the eating disorder I had developed.
Extreme hunger pain to where you wanna ralph first thing in the AM is a sign of indigestion, Ken! I get it, sometimes. Water does absolutely help.
Whether it's anxiety or indigestion, if I drink a cup of kratom it goes away
Sometimes when you're tired your body will tell you you're hungry to compensate that energy. Could be why you're hungry when waking up early
Or it's because you just slept for around 8 hours and are hungry because you haven't ate in hours.
Something about sleep deprivation and craving carbs/ needing dopamine. Idk.

I've lost 20 lbs since summer. All I've done is cut back on portions. I'm in no rush to lose weight. It took me 8 years to accumulate it, I'm fine with taking that long to lose it. I'm 5' and working my way down to 105-130. My last pregnancy, I had just left the military and was in a mentally trying place. My weight was not my focus. Now she's 7, I've had lots of therapy and I want to feel better.

Fellow vet here, I completely understand this! When I got out of the army I was struggling a lot with mental health issues and gained a lot of weight due to emotional eating. It’s been 4 years since then, I got help with mental health issues and also cut back my portions. I’m happy to say that I’ve lost 45 lbs. You’ve got this and your mindset about not rushing is great!!!

That's how I am approaching it right now. Just changing my portion size and no fast food. I know the weight will come off slowly, but I just wanna feel better by a little bit at a time. No big rush. If I try to do everything all at once I know I will fail.

For anyone who is trying to lose weight but LOVE sweets: an ENTIRE TUB of Cool-Whip is only like 350 Calories, and entire box of chocolate chip Eggo Waffles is like 700 Calories.... you can SLAY THE HELL out of a WHOLE BOX OF EGGOS AND A WHOLE TUB OF COOL WHIP and still be at about 1000 Calories. A great dessert with cool whip is ice box cakes
Grab a Tupperware and put a layer of graham crackers, layer of cool whip, fruit (blueberries or strawberries are what I use) and then repeat until the container is full. Put in the fridge for at least 3? Hours. Delicious!!! Just providing some alternatives with cool whip !:)

I am 171lbs and struggle with the endless eating... Hearing you guys talking about this, and how you guys relate. It makes me feel a lot better.
My boyfriend/ex ( He was mean, so I told him to get help or leave. He has yet to decide ) has pressured me so much to loose weight and when I can't see it go down, I comfort myself in food because I have no ones support..

The best way to shed weight is lifting weights. I know it may sound counterproductive but I’m being for real. I got into the best shape of my life by focusing on lifting weights because it not only burns calories during the session but for the next 24-48 hours. Getting into a system of working out at least a few times a week will inevitably encourage you to eat better and the best thing out of it all is the crazy amounts of endorphins you will get during your exercise and after, it is seriously the best feeling. Don’t let any partner get you down. Love yourself and treat yourself like you would to your younger self. Self love is the hardest but most rewarding. We all deserve it.
@@shayalynn Thank you for the comment! Sadly I have crippiling social phobia :( I loved running and lifting back in my teens.. But my friend stopped going and I kept having guys be super creepy... I wanted to start going to the gym here around 5am hoping to avoid people, but the gym is 20 minutes away and I don't have a licence and the bus don't run till 7am. So trying to find a flat closer to my two closest towns!
Just a bit of a struggle in the current rent increase and I have a dog and cat which makes it tricky to find a flat :(

I like how Ken mentioned how survival instincts make you want to eat. In the context of trauma and maladaptive behaviors, the survival instinct of eating is used in the wrong context as a survival technique against trauma for some people. It becomes an eating disorder once it has severe detriment to life and everyday activities, like walking or breathing for example. Seeing it in a different light like how he mentions can bring awareness about the negative effects of dieting culture. Just because you eat a lot (or too little) that doesn’t mean you have an eating disorder. It matters once you can’t live a healthy life. All bodies are beautiful, but being unhealthy should be an extreme worry.

Where do you live where McDonalds is $40 for two people? When we use a coupon off their app, we never pay more than $20. Also, salads aren't that inexpensive, especially if you want more than a boring bag lettuce mix.

Haven't woke up hungry since I cut my carbs to less than 50% of what I had been eating around 2 years ago. Not only am I not as hungry, but I'm clearer headed, less anxious, and have more energy.

I understand that urge to keep eating take out when you’re halfway done with it, so I have made a commitment to myself. Before I begin eating, I halve my plate and immediately save it for later. What I end up eating feels like enough and if it’s not, I let it process for hours, then eat the rest for next meal.
But I HAVE to portion it out BEFORE I begin to eat it.

Honestly stopping yourself from eating more once you know you've had enough is sometimes the hardest part but best for losing weight. Sometimes mid-bite I'll think "I don't need this I have to be full" and spit it out. Lost 18 pounds in a few months slow progress but works. If you feel hungry drink a glass of water wait 10 minutes see if it helps. Growing up really poor I went into binge eating whenever I had the chance horrible habit to break.
Anxiety and stress kept people alive in the early days of humanity. Now it is killing us.

In regards to genetics. It plays a part in how it affects your body, fat distribution, what age you start gaining a crap ton of weight, etc. However, anyone who is not a body builder can turn into this guy. It comes down to depression and stress in my opinion. When i am having a good day i eat healthy food. When i am having a bad day, i want to satiate it with sweets. Most often, the sweets gives you a feel good boost, then makes you feel worse/makes you even more hungry.
I've had doctors tell me that most of the time those "hunger pains" first thing in the morning is actually your body saying "I'm thirsty" and the pain can be so bad to where you even feel sick. Both feelings are VERY similar and so some people (myself included) just assume its from hunger. Almost every time I have them and drink water the pain immediately goes away, but if they just subside a bit then I know I'm also hungry. Again, it can be kind of hard to know the difference, but I always start with drinking some water first to be sure.
Salads can be unhealthy when people think a lot of dressing is normal.

I honestly feel horrible for anyone over 300....i cant imagine having to carry all that extra weight around. I understand why they would want to just give up having to deal with it on a day to day basis. Its possible for them to loose weight but man thats gotta be hard when your starting at 600

Genetics determine your natural metabolism, I eat no different than I did 10 years ago but I've started gaining weight, as opposed to someone with a slow metabolism eating the same stuff but gaining weight earlier in life.
I can relate Ken. Whenever I wake up early than usual or stay up really late i get so hungry i feel like throwing up but when I wake up at my usual time or even later i can go for an hour or even three before the hunger hits.

TO be entirely fair... I also watch for the food with anxiety bc I don't want them knocking because that stresses me out. No matter if I put that in the special requests, they still ring the doorbell and knock. Started lying and saying I had a newborn and that worked. I also dont order food often so
Lol it's always so funny to me when you guys get so flabbergasted over salads 😂 I freaking love salads! My go to order is salad and fries.
I don't do dressing or if I do it's usually some sort of vinaigrette because I have come to love getting creative with salad additions. When I can find a really good salad bar with tons of options, I do things like multiple lettuce types, corn, peas, baby corn, every kind of olive ever, jalapenos, sometimes pineapple, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, broccoli, carrots, snap peas, cauliflower, I used to do lots of cheese with I was vegetarian but they never have vegan cheese but if they did I might do that... I'm definitely missing things; it's been way too long since I found a good salad bar. I do add tofu or mock duck or whatever if they have it... Usually there's some sort of vegetable medley that's been cooked in oil and I'll throw that on. If there's pico de gallo I might do that. Croutons of course if they have ones I can eat. Oh and tomato slices, onions, cucumbers ....
When it's a place like those fancy grocery stores that have a hot bar and cold bar I will usually throw it all into one container. If you're not smothering the salad in dressing it's super easy to have a salad under potatoes or whatever, as long as there isn't any sauce with the potatoes etc. I usually still separate the food when I go to eat it but sometimes it's nice to just eat what I want as I go and be hella lazy about it.
Salads can be hella good-- just think of it like a medium to throw different stuff you like together, same as a bowl where you grab different chips and salty snacks to throw in one place... Or like how people can use pizza as the base that connects all the random things you may like to eat but would not like just thrown in a bowl together.
You can even do like quinoa, all sorts of nuts, meats if you eat that, and if you prefer dressing then that really binds disparate tastes together.
Not all salads are equal though.... You definitely need to order from somewhere that's fresh. Wilted and soggy salads are disgusting 🤮 And the really lame ones you can get at fast food restaurants are not worth going out of your way to order unless you're like me and you have limited choices and you're with a big group.
But if or when you find that local restaurant that makes absolutely dope French fries or idk whatever you like, maybe really good fried chicken or something -- it's SO worth it to add that salad! I waste so much less food that way and it's a delight to have that fresh veg. My favorite local place makes pizza that's stupid good and I can fully customize, and I almost always get their side salad with it because it's ginormous and like $5. I just make sure to try to eat the tomato slices that first day and if there's anything like that or croutons that will change texture with the moisture, I try to toss it in separate containers overnight just to preserve it better but it's not a big deal.
What's nice about ordering it is you get it premade and fresh and the right amount of it for a meal or two without all the waste

As much as I am disgusted by this, they certainly are sick and it's a disease.

There are some medical conditions like Prader-Willi syndrome where the person can't stop eating. That's different from "Food is my friend" or "Food makes me feel good" though.
I've seen kids with that condition. Eating garbage because the parents have to lock all the food. I can't imagine always being hungry.

I literally throw up if I don't eat soon enough.. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and get sick from being so hungry.. I tried talking to my doctor about it and he just wanted to prescribe a drug to MAKE ME SLEEP instead of finding the root of my problem.. I just eat a snack now before I sleep, like a protein smoothie since I workout in the evenings. Its helped me a ton! Its nice hearing that theres others out there who struggle with the same thing..
