PARENTS of a two-year-old with cranial facial differences say they found ‘their normal’ after watching an inspirational documentary on Barcroft TV. When their daughter Nova Hunia was born with severely reduced hearing and breathing difficulties, the couple desperately searched the internet to find out how their future would look. The pair, Acacia Hunia, 30, and Joseph Hunia, 29, from Wellington, New Zealand discovered Barcroft TV and were moved by an inspirational beauty vlogger named Marimar Quiora. The film made the young parents realise although Nova’s facial differences may describe her, they won’t define her. Follow her story here: / missnovajoy

@@jenniferc8213 I would nit know TC is a bit if a spectrum & you definitely have variations & it's possible she has a uncommon variation of TC or a combination of 2 mild conditions affecting similar genes, causing a TC like disorder with facial... Hmm... Deformities (not meant in a bad way, like lack of a nose duct, jaw , ear problems or lack of a windpipe, etc)

I see that I’m not the only one who thinks she is the cutest little girl ever! What a beautiful child and family. Nova seems to be very spunky and clever. I’m sure she will do great things in her future.

If a hearing person that signs is around deaf people, when the hearing person speaks verbally to someone else also there, its polite for the hearing person to sign along with their voice , so no one is left out basically.

I was following them on instagram and they dropped off around the time of the pandemic really getting underway. I know they were particularly at risk and fearful because of Novas trach. I think of them often and hope they're all well and safe.

I am facial disfigured and took a long time for me to accept myself, society can be very cruel and we need to ensure beautiful children like your daughter are treasured and accepted! I am also in a wheelchair and blind, the package we come in does not matter just what we do with it!, I would suggest you keep signing but also get her an iPad with a communications system it can give her a voice and increase her reading and expressing skills, it will also help with communication with children and others who may not sign. She is beautiful home keep up the good work!
Marcy Ryan I'm glad you accept yourself! We are all gods creation and each of us is wonderful and unique and there are no mistakes. That's a good suggestion about the iPad. I would think it world accelerate alot for her and like you said give a voice. Kids are more easily adaptable to technology than adults are. She would pick it up quickly. 😇

Love & support is so important. They are all lucky to have eachother. To say this child won't struggle is to deny reality but she has some amazing tools that will help her along the way. Sure, we'd all want for her to not have her disability but that's also denying reality. My thoughts & prayers go out to this strong family! Stay safe out here everybody & be good to one another! 👊👊✌

I think it's a condition similar to what the beauty blogger shown has they just don't have a name for it or it's very very rare I think in developing countries there are unfortunately many Conditions similar and even worse limited access to health care I'm sure that there will be someone there with the same condition maybe doctors can compare notes and figure it out
It appears that her problems are structural, and if structure either grows or is corrected, she will be fine.

I love that people now have an opportunity to become familiar with all our unique qualities and differences and eventually learn not to judge or make assumptions. I remember being frightened of physical differences as a child because of the way adults responded. I wish I had this opportunity way back then! Nova is a gorgeous little pixie who is obviously much loved, all the best to her family!

Yes there a lot of parents that forget to take care of themselves when they have any sort of special needs child and it really is so incredibly important. The parents well being directly affects the child so if the parents aren’t taking care of themselves it’s going to affect the child negatively and vice versus
