- First fishing trip this year and we went for sturgeon. Sturgeon activity has been picking up on the river so we went to try our luck. We used ghost shrimp as bait. Sturgeon fishing is tough. I am having problem on the boat, too.
We've been catching them in Pittsburgh area but we were on a boat. They should be moving up there soon.

I've been trying to get my first sturgeon from the bank too, so I felt that skunk lol. Tried twice and had no bites all day. Has definitely been a learning process. I think I am going to try some spots in Montezuma slough soon. Maybe you and your dad can give it a try and hit some other spots. Also I heard it's better to wear gloves when baiting for sturgeon since they hunt by smell and do not like the smell of humans! Something about humans and sea lions secreting the same scent or something. Good luck to you both!

I’d say wait until the weather gets warmer and consistent. The river is always tough during the winter time and depends on what your fishing for.

hey man any good combos or set ups you recommend
I don’t have a specific combo but i would say any reel that can hold a lot of line and use braid so u can have more line and strength. As for rod I would say 8 to 9 feet but I’ve seen people use ten but use what u feel like using.
