- Although this isn't my PB striper, it's still the biggest one I've caught all year. It was 7 pounds and 11 ounces. And if you ever caught a big striper and took a picture of it, you know that the picture does not do it justice on how just how big it is. You would need to see it in real life. Nice catches 👍 I lost one about the size of that biggie a couple weeks ago right at the bank. Was pretty salty about it but that’s part of the game! Do you have any budget baitcaster recommendations? Looking for a rod and reel for jerkbaits and don’t know much about baitcasters
Any reel that can hold the line u want to use. I recommend the black max for Baitcaster but for spinning the Sedona shimano is good. (Check description) and for rod any med or med heavy will do.

Never hooked a fish that big in my life so I horsed it in and lost it smh , I live and I learn and next time I for sure know what to do

What test pound your line and leader ?
You were using a lure ?
Back in the 1960’s and ‘70’s most my friends and I only used 15-25 lb mono.
A 40 pounder if lip or mouth hooked would take at least 20 minutes or even more .
But if bait was swallowed sometimes they wouldnt fight but 5-10 minutes .
Fish are kind of like humans in the sense some fight like hell and others dont .
