Take the middle hooks off an single on the back end. That will help not to wound so many fish. Not so likely to hook them in the eyes either.
Best to take off all treble hooks an run just singles on from an back. Don’t worry about not catching so many , cause you will catch just as many.

3 sets of trebles-you can mash down barbs on trebles to make release safer and easier or replace trebles with single hook

That’s a nice little umbrella rig. We use one with eight inch lures an I think six or eight of them.
Also here it’s obviously too small. 28”-35” here. That’s our slot for them.

You’re somewhat correct about the males coming in first but that’s just for the shakers that are coming in for spawn I chase the big females year round and have found any fish over 40 doesn’t usually leave the river and will live the remainder of its life in said area of a 5-10 miles stretch feeding on whatever is there to keep it gaining weight
