- The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a game known for its massive and still-active modding community. That community has developed a plethora of different types and genres of mods, among them are some spookier projects. Mods that attempt to scare the player aren't particularly abundant in the game, but Skyrim certainly has a few scarier ones out there, so today we take a look at 5 Spooky mods for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

The most absolutely terrifying thing in Skyrim: Forgetting to save often. Even worse in Morrowind and Daggerfall.
Especially when playing with like 200 mods, lol.
That moment when you save and end up with arcwind point bug anyway

*nothing scarier than accidently hitting the chicken*
*OH GOD NOT THE CHICKEN*
yeah, "accident"... look that chicken was asking for it! It was staring at me in a weird way, I swear!
Hits chicken in Cyodiil:nothing happens
Hits chicken in Skyrim: *EVERYONE GOES AFTER YOUR ASS*
@@randommandoade1465 People in Skyrim love their chickens
I'll always remember some crazy woman in Riverrun named Delphine that chased me halfway to Whiterun after killing a chicken outside of the inn. Lol, good times.
Spooky scary argoniaaaaaans send hist juice down my spine.

Honestly this definitely counts for that 1000x shout mod just sending them back to morrowind
I literally laughed so hard at this comment haha
That was a perfect comment- made me laugh hard lol

HEY I TOLD YOU TO STOP SELLING SKOOMA!!!!!!!!!!!

How does khajit air raised
Can khajit died
What does khajit eat
Does khajit have furry balls
Khajiit do you still have wares? I have coin
Whiterun Guard Hey when will you finally find my sweet roll and the thief who stole it?!?

I have always believed that jumpscares don't make a game a horror game. It should mostly be about the atmosphere, like Silent Hill, or Amnesia.
Then the third act of Vigilant will be right up your alley.
Aelarr that damn act shivers
Fatal frame
Completely agree. maybes not to the same extent but stalker shadow of Chernobyl is another game with an atmosphere to keep me on edge instead of a random un avoidable jumpscare
The parts in say, Dead Space, that I'm not being attacked are ten times worse than the ones where I am.
"Dwemer mansion that can become a player home"
oh hell yes
If you haven't done Clockwork yet, do so. Seriously. But damn, be ready to be creeped out.
Claves Septem I don't have a PC so I can't download any mods
If you're on xbox one you can get clockwork but if you have ps4 well you can't download any mod
Oh, drat. At the very least, catch a playthrough. Even that is creepy as hell. The end reward is fantastic. I've *heard* Xbox has a downloadable capability but sadly, I'm not versed in that platform.
The biggest liar in the history you can download mods in ps4 just no where near as many for Xbox One or PC
I love how when Nate is talking his voice occasionally gets very high pitched, one of his mannerisms I love haha
Like Curly of the Three Stooges. ^.^
Angry Applesauce lol exactly
I've only been subbed for a few videos and I notice this pitch change a lot. Nate's normal tone sounds like he's speaking in a lower register than is natural for him so when he is emphasizing something by raising his register it may be raising an octave higher than we expect.
It's awesome... though it would be better if his normal speaking voice were a full vocal fry register and shifting to a falsetto, or even the Ariana Grande whistle register.
Then he could just read the phone book. XD
Clockwork is terrifying af lol
Honestly I didn't find it scary or Terrifying. Creepy yes terrifying not really
I like it a lot. The reward in the end is worth all spookiness
Not really. The cave sequence is the only part of the mod that could even remotely be considered creepy, and only mildly.
Then you get out of the cave and then they throw any attempt at horror away.
There is still spookiness after the cave. I thought the start was more cheesy than scary with the women, though.
Bartoc is the reward a item or a house? I’d rather have an item. The House is meh
Hey how's it going guys? Skyrim here. Now, Nate is a big game....
I would watch a gameplay of Nate getting scared😂
Same
Yes please
who else would love to see Nate play some of these mods??? love the channel deserves every subscriber :)
Clockwork Castle is SO. GOOD.
That ghost is terrifying.
Vigilant is god tier,it's somewhat well known but still underrated in my opinion.
🎵Spooky scary Skyrim mods sends shivers down my spine🎵

Hello yes, I am Nord.
How do you do fellow nord
Yesterday I played Skyrim VR, with ELFX Hardcore Mod, and entered Bleak Falls Barrow, the cave was so dark, I couldn't see anything without using a torch or lantern, So I was holding the lantern and could only see two meters ahead of me. Then came to the area where Draugr arise from death, having a dead blue eyes screaming at me and making scary noises, it was one of the most horrifying experiences I have ever lived. 0:06 So yeah, you can make Skyrim a great horror game if you want.
Skyrim VR is something different lol
Hey, nice video- I actually voiced Molag Bal in that Vigilant mod, was wondering if you played it and what you thought? Thanks!
Assuming that is true, excellent work. That mod is the very best that Skyrim has to offer.
Hands down, impressive dude.
The first time I heard his cocky, confident voice telling you in no uncertain terms that you can submit, or die, I felt a chill run down my spine. Molag Bal was absolutely incredibly well voice acted.
Nomad can you feature yourself in your channel voicing Molag Bal?
Nomad Your voice is amazing then
The Immersive College of Winterhold mod has a questline through the old Winterhold ruins. It's kinda spooky, since it's super dark there (even with torchs/candlelight) and you really don't know where you're going to or what is going to happen next.
They also introduced a locked room in The Midden. I went there through console command and saw some draugr corpses. When I went closer to one of them, it suddenly all went dark and I heard some loud and scary screamings. That really scared me haha
I got through Darkend by a very simple method: Pop a Candlelight spell every three seconds, and blow everything that moves to kingdom come with fireballs.
The forgotten city can be pretty spooky at times because you have to kill people but you are thinking to yourself “did I kill the right person or doom them all” as you continue to back to the lake house and travel back in time
My first ending was the one where you save the slave lady.
Oof my first ending was Sofia accidentally killing the Jarl before he even restarted the timeline. Note to self: Don't bring Sofia(or Auri.. or Kaidan... anyone, to be honest).
The creators of that mod went on to release a full on game with the same name and its amazing! Would highly recommend.
I apparently have Darkend on my Oldrim game. I never explored it until I accidentally found it in a recent playthrough. I don't even remember downloading the mod but I might have done it on Steam once. I still can't find the mod file so I must have uninstalled it, but the quest area remains there for me to explore. Creepy....It's like a ghost file!
It received an update not that long ago... if you haven't already given how old your post is, give it a try. It's seriously awesome.
How can I get it on xbox one ?
A wild "Missing.No" appeared.
@@nathancretsinger970On the Skyrim title page there’s an option for mods. Choose that, and then search for “darkend”. Just choose the download button and you’ll be all set.
Honestly you should make more mod countdowns as I love learning about more mods to download. Like maybe some lists of your favorite mods? Idk
Mmm. Have you tried some of the mod reviewers, like MxR?
I have been *S H O O K E T H*
Z is for Zorua I don't know why this grammar reminds me of King Julien 😂
I absolutely love the "drain" ability added by sacrosanct.
Thanks Nate! I've been looking for some mods to spice up my Skyrim experience, this came out at the best time!
Great video as always, keep up the good work
All these mods look great, and I would expect nothing less of you, Nate. I actually love your channel, with a lot of important information on mods, updates, ect.
The thing I love about Sacrosanct, it takes some inspiration from the Vampire The Masquerade franchise.
I can personally stand by Vigilant being an amazing mod for people that want a paladin/vigilant of stendarr playthrough. The NPCs you meet are amazing, the weapons are really unique (not like a new enchantment on a basic ass skin, I mean broken weapons with some new skins with amazing powers!), the armour is really good as well (very dark souls like) and the quest is the most unique thing you'll ever play through. One warning though, the quest is very very very long and you acquire A LOT of loot which you won't have many places to store (unless you go back to vanilla Skyrim map; slight spoiler but nothing major). 10/10 mod. It's the scariest thing you'll ever play and if you don't enjoy this mod then you're a lost cause my friend. The mod takes a real dark souls vibe in it's arm and carries you through. There are guides online for when you get lost in the mod but I would suggest leaving them until you get stuck.
thanks exactly the video i was looking for, love your content keep it up!
I NEED the necromancy one. Hell yes. Thanks for uploading this!
Clockwork is 1000/10. It was exactly what I was looking for for a character to roleplay, the story is great, the voice acting is just FABULOUS.
"I won't bite. I won't bite your face."
" *INCOHERENT SCREECHING* "
I put down my skooma to watch this. On a serious note, I love this channel and it’s videos! Sooo glad I subbed! I’m always so down to watch the things I missed about Skyrim etc, and love seeing that there’s one of those uploaded to watch, but then there’s slight variations every now and then that always seem so well timed for me. Like I was just thinking earlier I need to play some scary games again, as it had been awhile. Unfortunately I’ll have to get the remastered Xbox one Skyrim if I’m to play any of these.
THANK YOU! I've been looking for good mods
Nate i want to say you are one of my most binge watchable channels i love❤
That moment when you have a PS4 and still dream having these mods
Loved this one; great subject and excellent mod choices!
Spooky scary modifications, send shivers down my spine!
There’s an audio overlap around 3:10 Otherwise, I really enjoyed this video! I play on the Xbox since I’ve always played TES games on consoles. So I particularly like that you included details of being PC Only/Xbox available!
@@___-bw7cm Damn man, might cut yourself on that edge there.
Happy Spooktember for my fav skyrim fear video
These mod will make the game so much more interesting. You have no idea how many times I have started over due to mod complications.
yuo did a good job at selling the mods and even put links for both game types so i gotta say you take this seriously... subbed.
This is class, always love your videos because you always seem interested in what your saying, keep them coming 👍🏻
"Vigilant" is an excellent mod! I wonder how many hours the dev-team spent on it? Time well spent I say!
Great video as always Nate! You´re becoming one of my favourite youtubers!
Anders Andersson Easily my favorite quest mod in all of skyrim.
VIGILANT was made by a single person, a Japanese modder with Nexus username Vicn.
He did borrow assets for some creatures and items from other modders, and the English voice acting and translation was done much later by fans of the mod. It was unvoiced and only in Japanese before.
Check out his other mods too, especially GLENMORIL.
Alan P Cool! Thanks for the heads up! Will definitely check out his other mods!
Anders Andersson what is the story about?I know that you basically join in the vigilant but what happen then?
love how /comfy/ Nate's videos are
Thanks for showing some love to the Xbox Community I know the vid is old. But we do love Skyrim. The good thing about mods is that the older they are the more complete they might be.
When I searched for Darkend on my XBox, it came up with Lucien...
I’m gonna keep an eye on him from now on
Same with me bro
Yes, yes, yes to Clockwork! Not only is it a really fun mission, but the player home is top-notch. My favorite player home used to be Rayek's Cave, but that changed when I opened up this place.
Subscribed for the mods , stayed for the commentary
Nate you only are what keeps this game relevant to me
That gameplay of the breathing legit gave me goosebumps
The house alone is insanely good from the Clockwork mod. Having the great, creepy story WITH an insanely great house with many unique features like Auto-sorting, a clock that chimes every hour, and an item transportation system was just going above and beyond.
One that I saw that sounds like a lot of fun, I haven't tried it yet, is "Falkreath Hauntings" It adds three different ghost like events and even a phantom spriggan creature that randomly lurks around the forest.
Thank you for talking about sacrosanct more people need to know the beauty that is the vampire
I played through clockwork last year during Covid and it is excellent!!!!
Well, already had 2 downloaded but installing 2 of the ones I hadn't, these all look really great
I'm definitely going to check out sacrosanct!
Links to mods? Favorite Skyrim youtuber confirmed
I haven't messed with Sacrosanct, but those other 4 quest mods are ALL outstanding, especially Vigilant... it's freakin' HUGE.
Does Darkend have a different name on the Xb1? Cause when I search for it, it says: "0 results found".
That bit in the second story of the old church reminds me of a lovecraft story... can't remember the name but its about something living in the steeple of an abandoned church
Just wanna add that the Clockwork mod scared the crap out of me! Experienced it all in VR.. Could not WAIT to get out of the first half!! I needed to see the sky again looool
Just southeast of Sleeping Tree Camp there is a Stonehenge-like formation that isn’t marked on the map. It contains a small puzzle which reveals a chest containing the book A Hypothetical Treachery (Destruction skill book) under a grate opened by the puzzle. There’s also a skeleton that seemed to be trapped with the chest who’s fate was unclear, but I have a feeling some form of treachery was involved.
I’m not sure how you prefer to get suggestions, so I’ll just leave this here.
OreoSpeedwagon The chest contains random loot. Nothing special can be found in that location
No idea why im just now seeing this, but omg im blessed
The night walk ability reminds me of shadow walking from the skulduggery pleasant books, its even a necromancy power too.
I am looking forward to Clockwork and the first one you mentioned, I'm blanking on the name.
Just tryna do my final exam in school but this notification send chills down my spine
I played clockwork that ghost thing at the start scared the heck out of me
I loved Clockwork! First off I downloaded it for the player home...but whoa! The quests, the challenges and hell, that ghost! Scared the hell out of me twice, at least! Oh oh, and that tune in the music box...strangely haunting but really beautiful!
Honorable mention, there's a mod called "The Evil Mansion" wich is a total re-imagination of Resident Evil 1 in a friendly lore with The Elder Scrolls, with all the files telling about the RE lore in a Skyrim lore with puzzles, bosses scary places and a very well designed location, it was one of my favorite mods and it's the entire RE1 in Skyrim so pratically a DLC.
Darkend is awesome, the new creatures are really cool.
these lists are something you will not get from simply randomly searching nexus 👌
thank ye
Hey Nate been long time since I watched your videos
Heeeeeey awesome vid nate! dude i'm so glad to see your channel growing so much, you earned it! keep it up! xD
Just a quick note, darkend link for LE edition is not working, someone knows why?
This is the best skyrim youtuber
Hey Nate and all , always a pleasure to find a new video , please never stop 😁
btw is there any way of finding your full mod list installed ? thanks a lot !
My favorite by far was Clockwork, simply because I didn't realize what I was getting myself into. I figured it would be a nice player home with a small quest to go along with it, just so that they didn't give the player a new house for no cost. However, what I wasn't expecting was a chilling opening quest, a hugely atmospheric Dwemer dungeon, or a quest that proved to be both engaging and challenging. What I really wasn't expecting was the characterization that made me genuinely feel for the characters, even though they were simply robots with voice synthesizers. Most of all, it was the little details of the Clockwork Manor that got me, like the backstory of the house's former owner, or the surprise that greets you once you finish the main quest and are allowed back in Skyrim. By far one of my favorite mods, and one of the best experiences I've ever had with Skyrim!
Sacrosant is essentially the vampire version of Moonlight Tales (a werewolf overhaul)
It's the vampire version of Growl, the werewolf overhaul from the same author. I'd seriously recommend Growl over Moonlight tales, it's lower weight and you don't have to open your perk tree every five minutes to remember which howl is what direction
@@louiesatterwhite3885 never heard of that one, might have to check it out. Though im on xbox so that may influence if i can use it or not.
@@felltactician if sacrosanct is on Xbox, growl should be as well. Enaisaion ported most of his modset titled "Enairim" to console
Clockwork spooked the hell out of me. I loved its story.
the spookiest moment in the base game was definitely that dawn guard mission were u go to that cave to meet the snow elf and get auriels bow. U walk across that bridge, it breaks and all of a sudden ur going down a river and outta nowhere a shit load of spiders plop into the water with u. Then u end up in a big spider hive and when ur dropping down the waterfall the spiders in the cave drop down with u. I shat myself when that happened
I absolutely loved Clockwork. It definitely scared me at first tho since when I installed the mod I didn't know it was going to add that creepy esc cave, and it was midnight. Sooooo XD. But after completing the quest, I absolutely love the player home, with the added bonus lahar adds to show the Dragonborn feats. Another great feature I loved was the music box. I love the music box.
"without further ado, let's do further"
My new favorite quote
Great list, have played them all. I personally would say vigilant is the most disturbing for me (especially that manor...WTF), however I really did love clockwork castle a TON.
yooooo clockwork was so damn scary man, I had like 200 jump scares playing that shit
I have played vigilant... oh boy that was an experience
As someone who has withdrawn from Skyrim for some time now, it's good to know about the Vigilant mod. Gotta try it, especially because when I first played Skyrim years ago, and first met Vigilants of Stendarr, my immediate reaction was "Oooh... gotta join them! I hope they have a great questline." ... and that was before I knew how unfinished Skyrim truly was. I'm glad there are epic modders out there, though. Thanks for pointing the mod out, Nate.
It’s an absurdly good mod, seriously one of the best. And considering the English translation is just that, a translation, it’s wild how good the voice acting is.
Just make sure you remember to grab the English patch, as it has its own mod page.
I've been playing modded Skyrim for some time now and you were pretty accurate on the list. Though personally, I think the order is wrong.. but the mod choices were very good. For scariest I have to go with Vigilant because to this day this was the only mod that ever legitimately gave me a true jumpscare (*cough* Julia) Vigiliant can be grindy at times but the individual battles make it so worth it and the visuals there are so well made! Thing I also like about Vigilant is that you are constantly changing scenery so it does mix it up so you don't feel like your crawling the same place all the time. Second I'd go with Clockwork because it seriously just has such a great story... I wouldn't necessarily call the mod scary but some of the things he does in it are definitely spooky. Darkend would be next though as I wrote on the mod author's page that it was great... but the final bosses they've implemented really would be almost unbeatable without cheating at this point. But the atmosphere in Darkend is JUST FANTASTIC! It looks so good... I cannot state that enough. However, it starts to lose the scare factor because it's EXTREMELY grindy. If it were shorter would have been more effective but after awhile it becomes a battle fest and any scares lose their value. Honestly, I think you should have included Legacy of the Dragonborn for it's... Night at the Museum quest. It's surprisingly well done.. and true it's only a single quest, but, it actually works very well and does blend in with the mod overall flawlessly. I suppose Undeath is a decent choice, though, there aren't many 'scary' quest mods out there... I think it's just the content in this one just helps it to seem just a touch spooky. Anyway, yes I endorse these choices... bravo as someone who's played pretty much all of these.
I love Sacrosanct. My absolute favorite vampire mod out there!!
biggest fears:Your objective markers have been removed.
Player's:*confused screaming*
The most terrifying mod for Skyrim isn't any of these, but a mod to make Skeletons sound like how they did in Daggerfall. 5 minutes of THAT and you'll be at your wits end.
Noooooooooo :'( I didn't play much of Daggerfall, but I do remember that horrific sound.
TheNN make a mod that turns them into Oblivion or Dark Souls skeletons then I’ll be frightened
I got clockwork last year for the home, had no warning about the horror aspects of it. I'll admit, I freaked.
I've been suscribed since 5 months already, more or less? And I wanted to say that you have a great voice, could use it for the "narrator" or some important character in a DLC-size mod, pretty sure the delevopers would fight for your voice in their work hahaha.
Delevopers
Damn sad that I can't play Vigilant, but I'm stoked for these other mods, bring the spook!
Ive played clockwork. I really enjoyed it. Found it to be a good mix of creepy with some decent story to it. I hadnt heard of the necromancy one before, and never really had a pure mage style so may make that my first. But the first one caught my eyes too
JUST GOT OUT OF SCHOOL FOR TODAY. AND SAW THIS
Sacrosanct is the best vampire overhaul available IMHO. Nothing else even compares. The changes are great while not feeling overpowered or out of place. Definitely a must have.
Aww man I personally LOVED thr Clockwork mod! That ghost actually terrified me and that is no easy feat!
I also loved the tragedy of the female android, how she was succumbing to the same faltering of her sanity that affected all of the others.
Plus I enjoyed the player home once I unlocked everything.
Mod number 1&3&5 are that ones I have and personally love the last one actually that one made me to love to be a vampire on every play through
you should do playthroughs of these mods
I think even Bethesda themselves can be terrifying when they want to.
Like, that room in Oblivion's Vaermina's nightmare, full of upside-down corpses hanging on the ropes and there is nothing except a total dark abyss around you, save for the small column you stand upon? That thing still haunts me.
