Optimal combos are no good if you don't know how to get your opponent launched, they're just a means of getting more reward for outplaying someone. The latter part will always be more important 👍
It's such a good point about how knees combos aren't optimal. Gawd tier gameplay really sees combos as a secondary concern since it's the easiest aspect of the game. What I learn from this is that combo knowledge doesnt win sets if you have s tier fundamentals and knowledge.
Absolutely. In my region, there are guys that train for combo optimization as a primary tool for their offense and they struggle mightily against players like myself and top players where our primary form of offense is based on fundamentals.
Don't get me wrong, combo optimization has it's place and it can be the difference between giving your opponent that sliver of health that allows them to mount a comeback and death. But I almost never worry about hitting combos in a match and I let the flow of the match determine when to go for a launcher etc.

I think a more important skill than optimization is capitalization. Knee ended up getting a float combo from a jab and capitalized off of that by doing 4-6 jabs/ d/f+1s, into a screw, into the ender. The most basic launch, filler, screw, ender formula imaginable. There are other similar situations which occur all the time, such as random counter hits, random low parries, random punishes, etc. Being ready for unexpected situations and having both the knowledge and ability to capitalize well off of them will take one way further than knowing a combo or 2.
Combos can win games, not combo damage. How you choose to take your combo route to setup better oki and potentially relaunch is a big part of winning. As well as wall placement, etc.

Great video. One thing I've noticed about EU/NA players and streamers is that they think down back 2 is the best move that Noctis has. However, many people in Korea would say "Chidori (back 2)" is the best move for Noctis.

I’ve been a Noctis main for a long time. 20k wins in Quick Match and ranked purple. Probably more light blue rank these days, but I don’t really play Rank much. Love this character and I’ve been watching you PhiDX, CBM, Jyotaro, MOMO Dog as my favorite Noctis players in the world. Love seeing Knee show what our Noctis can do. If only Noctis had one more good low…

welp I just bought noctics when tekken 7 was on an random discount and so this video is an treat indeed. only problem is my laptop's hdd died so yeah... can't even do some practice mode to try this lelz

knee is one the greatest tekken players period so of course he can pick up any character, coz his fundamentals apply to every character... he plays them as a good tekken player, not a specific character specialist ...i think CBM is an actual noctis specialist

Man, Noctis's b2 is a move I wish any of my mains had. Safe 14f fast mid that does a chunky 37 damage and gives you +6. Very spammable because there's little to no risk. Oh and it can evade mids sometimes 24:02 lol
