Phil Jackson is the only one you can argue is better but he had 2 of the top 5 best ever players & he hasn't had to adapt to new play styles like Greg has(most recently the 3 becoming the norm). LeBron carried a nobody team to the finals in his like 4th year? He needed all stars because the Cavs refused to give him help and the Celtics had a big 3. Also Duncan not having great teams? Best coach ever, Tony Parker is no joke, Manu is no joke, and then Kawhi for his last championship was no joke. All them will be hall of fame.

    • @DecemberSkyfire
      @DecemberSkyfire Před 6 lety +2

      Don't get me wrong, I love LeBron -- but he's no Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan is the greatest winner of the modern era. And the object of the game is to win.

    • @dylangray6931
      @dylangray6931 Před 5 lety +17

      Duncan got 5 titles but a) earned finals MVP in only 3 of them. And the two times he didn't earn finals MVP were interestingly the times where he faced Lebron (2007 vs Cavs went to Parker and 2014 vs Heat went to Kawhi). At the end of the day, Duncan was drafted into a good situation that got better his whole career. The only reason the Spurs were able to land the #1 pick that netted them Duncan was because Robinson got hurt that season, not because they were actually a bad team. But look at who Duncan was surrounded by throughout his career:
      Pop: Top 5 if not Top 3 coach all time, future HoF, coach his entire career
      Parker: All-star, Finals MVP, future HoF, on roster for 4 of the 5 rings and most of Duncan's career
      Ginobli: All-star, 6th man of the year, future HoF, on roster for 4 of the 5 rings and most of Duncan's career
      Robinson: All-star, Former MVP, Former DPOY, HoF player, on roster for 2 of the 5 rings (though only a serious contributor for Duncan's first ring)
      Bowen: won't be in the HoF, but for 8 years in a row was on either first or second all-defense teams, one of the best perimeter defenders of his era, on roster for 3 of the 5 rings
      Kawhi, DPOY, finals MVP, one of the best 2-way players the game has seen, future HoF player, on the team for the 5th ring
      Could go on but you get the point.
      The difference between Duncan and Lebron is that Lebron was drafted onto a truly BAD team and the Cavs became a playoff presence with JUST Lebron before he left for Miami. Lebron played on teams with and without help, with and without good coaches. Lebron found ways to be a consistent playoff and finals presence everywhere he has been. Duncan never took a team with no support to the finals. Lebron did in 2007. Yes, they got swept by the Spurs but it wasn't Duncan who took home the finals MVP, it was Parker. Lebron has also beat a 73 win team in the finals. Duncan never faced that. The only time Duncan faced an arguably better team on paper than the Spurs in the finals was a healthy Miami Heat in 2013 and the Spurs lost. You could try to say the 2014 rematch was equal footing but you'd have to ignore that the Heat had injury issues all year and had a massive weak spot at PG while the Spurs were a healthy 60 win team. Even then, Kawhi got the finals MVP, not Duncan. Lebron is or will go down as the best #1 draft pick of all time. He'll have the stats to back it up, the MVPs and Finals MVPs, and he'll be able to say he beat the 73 win Warriors.

      NBA All-Star 2022 honestly, only people who were born in the late 90's and later/Kobe haters think Lebron is even on Kobe's level all-time. Or they don't watch much basketball. If Kobe and Lebron were ever on the same team in their prime, Kobe is doing all the 4th quarter scoring and taking over. Lebron doing all the passing, sure, maybe. But that's what Bronsexuals always make the case for. His passing, which if that's the case, you can make that case for a whole bunch of other players. And Westbrook is better than Lebron right now, if you wanna make the case for all around numbers.

      Miami wasn't lacking before LeBron. They appreciate him but there's a lot of beef he brought and left in Miami. The Finals loss being number one. Another being he tried to dismantle the team and take everyone with him when he left. Spoelstra also notes how LeBron disrespected him and how he asked Pat Riley not to deal with the contract negotiations so he would have a leverage over the state of the team
      Miami loves LeBron but he's a stepchild to them.

    • @hershelpogue1745
      @hershelpogue1745 Před 6 lety

      Jaret Donald Patterson .... I'm afraid for you. Skip could have mentioned allot more but held back. Like he could have shown that LeBron controls the ball too much and has hurt his team for it. They can't get in the flow of the game because LeBron has the ball 98% of the time. He could have said even as player with the ball he scores should be higher than what they appear to be on average. And a player like Jordan average over 10 seasons 10 scoring titles, and LeBron only one in a softer NBA without hand checking rules and grabbing players and pushing them out of position. What about defense has he LeBron ever done something like average a certain amount of rebounds, or assists, and steals. Those are things to consider because Jordan average 2.3 steals a game and won three 3 steal titles in his career. These are intangibles that gives considerable thoughts about how you performed throughout your career. What about doing something no other player has done before like over 200 steals and over 100 block shots in back to back years like Jordan did. Remember Jordan was only 6 six foot 6 inches tall and was very dominant and difficult to defend against. Theirs more to Jordan than just rings. He also got standing ovations on other teams floor for playing at such a high level day in day out every time. No one question his greatness like ww question LeBrons. Jordan didn't make excuses when he won or lost he sent a message saying we will be waiting for a rematch. You got us this time so we got to come ahow you we better than how we performed today. And guess what he did. It's like a guarantee he's going to win the next match. He hated losing that much. He'll come back and in pain and play hurt just to let you know we are better than that. Go figure if you can find a player in today's game that tough. You won't. That's why it's hard to give another player that crown because Jordan's bar he set is so high. Rhat a lesser standards looks weak. And makes it hard to compare someone to him because they can't reach his heights when it comes to his overall game and sheer will to win at all costs. Theirs no other like this man. We waiting it's a long wait. Guess what it ain't LeBron by a long shot. When you compare everything season in and out Jordan way better. Sorry LeBrons fans this is the truth. Let say this LeBrons a great player, just not the greatest to ever play the game. That argument must be made for a player that either ties what Jordan accomplished are surpasses him. To become the next greatest player of all time.

      @americangiant1003 Před 6 lety +18

      Actually I would put Kareem first as most important #1 NBA pick of all time. The Bucks was a first year expansion team in 1969. 2 years later led with Kareem and Oscar Robertson they won the NBA title. Second choice for all time #1 picks it's close between James and Jordan. I probably give #2 to Lebron because the Cavs for most of their history other than a few years between say 1988-1992 have sucked. The Bulls in the early 1970's was a really good team (they were in the Western Division then before NBA realignment in the late 1970's after the ABA merger)but lost a few times to the Jerry West/Wilt Chamberlain led Lakers team in the playoffs.
      And third I would actually say Larry Bird. The Celtics in 1979, had fallen on hard times after 20 years of being an championship contender the longest in North American history. Bird was the one that started the mini Boston dynasty of the ealy/mid 1980's winning 3 NBA titles. IMO I say Kobe is the #4 all time pick as it began the new Lakers Dynasty of the early 2000's.
      Magic Johnson is not a top 5 pick IMO, the Lakers with just Kareem in 1979, was already a playoff regular. With Magic joining Kareem the rest is history. Here couple other landmark draft picks that changed a team forever.
      Bill Walton-Portland Trail Blazers. Hakeem Olajuwon-Houston Rockets. Patrick Ewing-New York Knicks. David Robinson-San Antonio Spurs.
      IMO instead I would rank the Magic and Larry selections in '79 as maybe the best (trading/moving up in the draft)trades in American sports history though. Ranking with trade/draft of John Elway and
      Eli Manning in the NFL.

Also the draymond green suspension also altered a championship because no way with green on the lineup they were gonna lose 3 in a row. 2014 finals they just straight up outplayed by the spurs, plain and simple.

      Some of you are seriously so ignorant. Those famous game winning shots that Paxson and Kerr made were both in game number 6 of their respective Finals while their team were up 3-2. Even if the Bulls were to hypothetically lose those games, it still doesn't mean that they would end up losing those Finals as those series would have just been tied. Go watch those games if you all haven't.
      Not to mention, when Paxson released that game winning shot to end the series, there was still 5 seconds left on the game clock. Similar with Kerr's as well, there was still 6 seconds left on the clock when Kerr released the ball for the shot. And when Kerr's shot was still in the air, every other Bulls player, all 4 of them were in the paint with great position against the 3 Jazz players in the paint. They had the advantage not only in positioning but also numbers. If that shot had missed, it would have been easily an offensive rebound. 5 or 6 seconds is a lot of time for another chance to score.
      And in any case, those shots cannot be compared to those famous shots that Ray Allen and Kyrie Irving took respectively because those shots actually won elimination games in the Finals. Their team were down 2-3 before those games ended, so If they had missed those shots or if their team failed to score from there till the buzzer sounds, it would have been the end. Period.

    If you flip Lebron and Tim Duncan's whole situation with their teams, so have Lebron be coached by Popovich, whilst having David Roberson, and have Tim Duncan be coached by Mike Brown, with a bunch of nobody players, Lebron and Popovich would have been the greatest player and coach duo of all time (definitely beating MJ and Phil), and Tim Duncan would have been lucky to even get to a finals (not to say that he can't, just not as frequently as he did now).

  • @VicLop2111
    @VicLop2111 Před 6 lety +1

    Duncan won five rings with the franchise that actually drafted him. That means a lot to me, the Cavs don't care about LeBron's rings in Miami. The question is: what did you do for the franchise that used the #1 pick to get you? That's why I'd take Duncan. Five championships, three Finals MVPs, two regular season MVPs, played his entire career for the Spurs. I mean, it is not an argument about who's the best player, it's about the #1 pick, and the team that used that pick matters.
